ESO start: all new chars?

Post » Wed Mar 05, 2014 8:32 pm

Dumb Question I guess but my son asked me and I wasn't certain: when ESO proper starts all beta PCs are scrapped and we all start again from scratch?

Correct?

I ask as his >40 level PVPer (yes I still hate PVP) will be lost and he cannot believe it (mum smiles smugly...the little sod overclocked my CPU and GPUs and I wondered where our two external fans had gone until I came into the room and the noise was like a WW2 airfield.

Yes all beta characters will be scrapped.

This is a common practice in most MMOs.

The reason they do this is because things done in beta may not have been final design intention and so that all paying customers have a relatively level playing field when the game launches.

The 5 day head start is when characters will be permanent.

Keep in mind pre-orders will have a 5 day head start. Given that during the beta I hit level 17 (in 2 days) I guess that means you are looking at facing level ~25s if you didn't pre-order.

The devs haven't said either way, as far as I know, so people who are saying without a doubt that we'll start from scratch are just assuming so.

That said, it's highly, highly likely we'll start over. You don't want the testers who've been playing for 11 months to show up on day 1 in Cyrodil with their raid/pvp farmed top gear, do you?

It is heavily heavily HEAVILY implied, to the point of them saying it, that all characters will be cleaned out. Plus it is common practice to start the official launch of the game with a clean slate so everyone starts off on equal ground.

The only time they wouldn't wipe beta chatacters is if the beta is part of the official launch, which in this case, it isnt.

Let's spell it out:

Will progress I make in The Elder Scrolls Online beta carry over into the live game?
Updated 02/27/2014 11:26 AM Published 01/18/2013 05:21 PM
No, The Elder Scrolls Online beta characters will not carry over to the live game. Players who pre-ordered or pre-purchased ESO will be able to create their new characters for the live game either during Early Access or at launch. Players who purchase ESO at or after launch will be able to create their new characters at that time.
