[RELz] Espless Slof's Horse Replacer

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:38 pm

Update to Version 1.2: Fixed issue with saddlebags causing some people's games to CTD. Thank you to Korana for rebuilding them!

Update to Version 1.1, now with reins! Thanks to Slof for sending me merged saddles plus reins files. And another thanks to her for files for giving me the know how to add the reins to the saddlebags. Yay, Slof!

This is an espless horse replacer using Slof's Oblivion Horses. The benefit of this is any mod added horses that use Oblivion's default meshes will now use Slof's. I put this together for myself and Slof said it was fine to share it. Enjoy! ;)

Requires http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24312 for the textures.

1. Description

*****************************

This is an espless horse replacer using Slof's Oblivion Horses. Only the meshes are included, meshes overwrite the default Oblivion horse meshes. The benefit of this is any mod added horses that use Oblivion's default meshes will now use Slof's. Now all horses can be beautiful!

NEW VERSION 1.1: Reins! They are included on both regular saddle and optional saddlebags.

*****************************

2. Requirements

*****************************

Slof's Oblivion Horses V2.0
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24312

*****************************

3. Installation

*****************************

1) Download and install Slof's Oblivion Horses V2.0. This is required for the textures as they are not included with my mod.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24312

OPTIONAL: From the Oblivion Launcher, select Data Files and check the box next to the Slof's Horses Base.esp file. I recommend this for maximum benefit, you will see much more diversity this way. I also recommend Slof's Extra Horses Pack located at the same download location listed above.

2) To install Espless Slof's Horse Replacer, unzip the files into the "Bethesda/Oblivion/Data" directory.

Included in this file:
meshes/creatures/horse/bridle
meshes/creatures/horse/bridle_db
meshes/creatures/horse/horn
meshes/creatures/horse/horse
meshes/creatures/horse/horseblack
meshes/creatures/horse/horsechestnut
meshes/creatures/horse/horsegrey
meshes/creatures/horse/horsehead
meshes/creatures/horse/horseheadblack
meshes/creatures/horse/horseheadchestnut
meshes/creatures/horse/horseheadgrey
meshes/creatures/horse/horseheadpaint
meshes/creatures/horse/horsepaint
meshes/creatures/horse/lefteye
meshes/creatures/horse/lefteyeblue
meshes/creatures/horse/lefteyered
meshes/creatures/horse/mane
meshes/creatures/horse/mane_black
meshes/creatures/horse/mane_chestnut
meshes/creatures/horse/mane_grey
meshes/creatures/horse/manelong_black
meshes/creatures/horse/manelong_chestnut
meshes/creatures/horse/manelong_grey
meshes/creatures/horse/maneroman
meshes/creatures/horse/maneroman_black
meshes/creatures/horse/maneroman_chestnut
meshes/creatures/horse/maneroman_grey
meshes/creatures/horse/righteye
meshes/creatures/horse/righteyeblue
meshes/creatures/horse/righteyered
meshes/creatures/horse/saddle
meshes/creatures/horse/saddle_db
meshes/creatures/horse/tail
meshes/creatures/horse/tail_black
meshes/creatures/horse/tail_chestnut
meshes/creatures/horse/tail_grey

3) If you would prefer to have saddlebags instead of regular saddles, copy the contents of the "Optional-Saddlebags" folder into the "Bethesda/Oblivion/Data" directory.

These will overwrite:
meshes/creatures/horse/saddle
meshes/creatures/horse/saddle_db

*****************************

4. Version History

*****************************

V1.2 - Fixed optional saddlebags.

V1.1 - Added reins.

V1.0 - Original Release.

This mod will be updated as necessary to include any updates to Slof's Oblivion Horses.

*****************************

5. Incompatibilities

*****************************

Shouldn't be any, unless there is another mod that overwrites the vanilla horse meshes.

*****************************

"Thanks to everyone for testing this out for me.
HappyHannah and Phoenixamon for helping me to figure some things out.
The clever folks of NifTools for the amazingly versatile NifSkope which I can't manage without!
The equally clever folks who created Blender which I am now coming to grips with.
Bethesda for some of their textures which I have tweaked and used as a base for many of these - and Oblvion of course!
The folks on the ES forums for providing me with reference pics for the more unusual horse types.
Thanks to Arty for spotting the problems with lighting on the horse heads in HDR. These are now hopefully corrected.
Big thanks to jcarl904 for the mare meshes.
Big thanks also to XMarksTheSpot for making me the reins and tweaking meshes!
Zira for the little pyramid mesh I used on the bridle headband - and the idea of doing new bridles!
Thanks also to MysticHybrid for the saddlebag meshes and textures, and odin_ml for optimising the meshes and making them work a bit better in-game.
New stallion, unicorn, mane, tail and bridle meshes by me. All textures by me."

Special thanks to:
The folks at the ORE Forums for their friendship, ideas, and support. It means a lot to me.

Bethesda - for creating such a great and involving game, and for the ability for us players to modify it as we see fit.

**Feel free to contact me with any bugs or suggestions. Please do not upload this mod to any other website or reuse anything from this mod. If you would like to use Slof's meshes, please refer to the original mod and its ReadMe.

As a user of Ulrims Horses I'm locked in to using the esp (and even recently renamed the MMM version to the slof version with success).

Would there be any value to using this as well on top of that?

Sounds fantastic! Will it work with the new Martigen which contains all Slof's textures and meshes?
That would be great!
Oh, and you and your cool mod are listed - check the link in my sig! :D

If you use companions this is especially helpful because it removes a couple of conflicts that existed in the esp. I meant to fix them after someone found them and I let Slof know about it but never got around to it with TVH development going on.

THANKS!

I have checked the following mods for conflicts. Everything looks peachy, none of these mods replace the default Oblivion meshes. All use an esp file. Likewise my mod will have no effect on these mods for the same reason. They should be fine. :)

Yes, if you run any mods that add horses that still look vanilla. This mod will take care of that for you.

Thank you Phaedra, now TT users do not need the above plugin,

they can just install this instead to get slof horse to show up and it works across all version of Tamriel Travellers has well without bash..

Very nice..Will have to add note in my travellers thread..

This is really cool. Thank you very much for doing this.

While I'm here I also want to say that your eye mod is my favorite eye mod for Oblivion. I've added most of them to every custom race I've used. I'm sure this will occupy a similarly permanent place in my games (I can't say load order, heh). :foodndrink:

Hmmm - well then at some point I can see how there would be no point in keeping Ulrim's horses.

After adding reins - need to look up again what else Ulrims Horses do.

If it does anything extra, it can still be used along side this mod without conflict.

I second Pserons' opinion on your eye mod, definitely my favorite eye mod. :)

Has anyone gotten any CTDs using these?

I tested them last night, but can test again this evening.

Are you using the default version or did you install the saddlebag option?
When does it CTD?

I'd like to do what I can to solve your issue.

I'm using the saddlebag option. I'm going through the DB quest line and just completed the sanctuary cleansing, went back and talked to Lucien and got Shadowmere. I left Fort Farugut and got the CTD. I'll try a few other things, it might be something else but my load order is lean and mean and this is a complete fresh reinstall.

If I can't figure it out I'll load everything into TES4Edit and check things out that way.

--EDIT__

Never mind, I figured it out!
