Eternal Night RP Idea

Post » Wed Jan 26, 2011 4:19 am

Hey guys. A while back there was an RP called Eternal Night, which was basically about werewolves, vampires, witches, necromancers, and their hunters. (Let me know if anyone remembers it, the creator was Bebopmagnum) Basically it was locked because Bebop did not have the time to control it anymore. Shortly after I was unable to get on the internet for a couple months until today and was thinking about resurrecting the old RP.

The premise was the following: A major group dedicated to ridding Cyrodiil of the undead broke off of the mages guild and became their own group called the "Bloodseekers." The RP took place during the Oblivion crisis and was mostly about Mannimarco who was trying to get that one book, I forgot what it was called, which would allow him to take over cyrodiil. The RP allowed you to be a bloodseeker, vampire, werewolf, or a necromancer. You were allowed to create your own goal and story for your char/chars.

Let me know if any of you guys are interested and/or want to help. Also there was much more to the RP I just can't remember all the details. Feedback please! I sent a message to Bebop recently so he may help me. Thanks!

Well, it sounds pretty cool, but there are a few major issues:

It sounds pretty free form, though it has the potential to be well planned with a solid plot. Free forms don't work well, so I advise you get rid of the "make your own goal" deal and throw in a united main plan for all the characters.

Be very very careful of ubering characters. If you let people go crazy with vampires, necromancers, werewolves, and paladin mages, it tends to get out of hand. Put some limits on, or remind people to be realistic with their powers.

And yeah, get contact with Bebop about his plans for the RP.

Sounds good, though I wouldn't be able to partake :(

Yeah, I definitely thought about the problem with the overall free-form idea. If I were to create it again I would definitely create an overall goal.

I would be sure to set some strict rules and people would have to stick to the overall options presented to them. I wouldn't let people just create their own type of character like a were-vampire or something, only the options I give and nothing too complicated. One of the main problems would probably be keeping it from getting to big and confusing.

It might be hard but I think with some help it could turn out really fun. And why wouldn't you be able to join? :(

Alas, I am currently involved in three other RPs, AP classes, my own fan fic, and football is still going strong. Just time crunch, my friend, nothing to do with your RP ;)

You mean, http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=929926&hl=eternal ;)

Ahh, that brings me back........ Oh right, back to reality.

As stated above, the reason this.... hmmmm.... not so much failed, but more died a slow painful and agonizing death involving liver and pancreas problems is because of the freeform-ed-ness of it. Though I must say, it is probably the most PvP action I have ever experienced whilst Rp'ing here and it only lasted about a page.... Fun though! THan many things happened, people (including myself :sadvaultboy: ) sunk into Rping by themselves and forgetting that they were actually in a Roleplay and not a Fanfiction.

If you do decide to re-open er, I'd love to bring back good ole Lliryn and his Skeletal buddy Sorian :D

Yep, that's it. Thanks for providing the link. I'm glad someone remembered what I was talking about.

Anywho, I would probably address the free-form problem if I was going to bring it back. But nice feedback, thanks.

It was one of my first RPs and probably also my funnest, er most fun. I remember your char vaguely, I'm pretty sure we fought once right? My guy was the vampire hunter! :)

I don't think the free roaming is that bad. I'm reading the old one right now and I really like it :D

You can always try it, and with a good enough host and focused players it works fairly well, but in general it is a bad idea. It's just like playing a werewolf or similar thing that is usually a no no- if you are good enough it works fine. Usually what happens is people play their own stories out more than interacting with one another, and they end up getting bored and leaving. A more focused idea or at least starting location puts all the characters together for interaction, while still giving enough freedom to let them do their "thang".

I'm glad you enjoyed it Ayumi. ;)

Well, I was thinking. Maybe each type of character, (werewolf, vampire, etc.) could have their own starting point and specific goal. For instance, if I were to start out as a bloodseeker I would start out near Skingrad, where a large bloodseeker camp was forming and preparing for something? Not that exact scenario but you get the point.

If you do that then you'd need at least three times as many people as you have factions, as each character really needs to start off with another RPer or two to keep them interested. They can start out in different places, so long as they reach the same general area within a few posts. I really advise cutting the factions down to two or three, just to simplify things. You can always have the werewolves, vampires, and necromancers in the same faction and starting point, even if they don't get along so well, now that they have a common enemy of the bloodseekers. The idea is a pretty good one if implemented well, but you can't spread people too thin :goodjob:

Well to be honest, I never really like the werewolves or witches, so that cuts the factions down to three: vampires, bloodseekers, and necromancers. Maybe I could re-edit the story a little so that the bloodseekers are just against the vampires and necros.

And I like your idea. I may let people choose their starting point but give them a specific goal depending on which faction they are in.

First of all, they were here earlier, and yours is a different type of free form than this.

Secondly, no need for avoiding the auto censor.

And finally, Illusionary is a she ;)

Couldn't've said that better myself.

This RP could definately be a fun concept. It doesn't need to stop being freeform, but a little more structure- such as having a place where all the characters can start and meet- would keep it alive longer.

But there's no reason not to try it either way. You never know who might join, really, until you try.

Well, I am most likely going to start it soon, just waiting for a reply from Bebop. Thanks for the thoughts guys. Still waiting for more thoughts from other people!

I know Darkom can't join but would you join, Sannes, and Illusionary?

I'll think about it. :) But I have to say, an RP that encourages PvP can't appeal to me greatly; combat, and particularly player against player combat, is one of my least-liked ways to RP. Not that that is wrong, nor all that will be happening, it's just a pet peeve I developed in my early RP days.

Anyway; it looks like a crowd is gradually forming; I think you'll have all the players you need.

Well I can't really 'sign you up' right now but as soon as bebop replies which should be in the next couple days or so hopefully, I will most likely create a char sheet and get started with the rp so keep your eyes peeled.

I remember this, except it was called Eternal Hunt. I might join, depending on where this goes.

EDIT: Ah, I see Blademaster corrected the name before me.

I'd really rather not give you complete control over the plot, for you've already dropped Werewolves, which played a major role in the original RP. I'm coming up with a plot, from that you can build the RP. Until it's done, I'd appreciate it if you didn't go ahead and make the topic. Thank you.

No problem man, it's your topic. It really doesn't matter if we have werewolves or not, and now that I think about it I would actually rather have them.

There is also a fanfiction in the works, and has been for months since the end of the original RP and it's second attempt. It will follow many of the original main characters, including Lliryn, Faolin, Thorin, D'raziir, Abbott Flynt, and many others.
