So with this setting being a cold northern land, will the ground be covered by eternal snow? Cause that would svck. I enjoy the warm summer days in the vineyards near Skingrad, and the big lush forests covered by plants and flowers. I'm really hoping this won't a constantly cold and snowy map. Maybe the four seasons will actually be visible on the weather pattern.
Yeah, I wouldnt worry too much about this. There will be snow especially along the morrowind/cyrodiil border. And the especially large peaks will have it in spades. Im expecting the Throat of the World will have much significance, and a majority of the snow will be in that area. Im not sure how they'll hand such mountains being prominent rather than secondary: Oblivion style mountains just couldnt cut it if you wanted to make an open experience. The graybeard on the stele certainly suggests that part making a significant impact.
Now keep in mind, Im not sure when this takes place in the timeline exactly. But the area in the game could well spread to mainland Morrowind, considering the amount of turmoil thats happend there, both on vvardenfel and mainland since the Oblivion Crisis ended. Its certainly a very active part of the current timeline. In the end, I think it'll be a good bit of cold and ice, but not even to the same degree Solstheim was. Frankly I cant wait. I spent my life mostly living in cold, mountainous deserts, and they are absolutely stunning in beauty, and have a way of putting things into perspective. Ever seen a field of lush rolling grass accented by large gray rocks, coverd in red lichen? Its like, what more could you do, you're not gonna see anything prettier
Cold lands have a beauty, its more often subtle then overt, and played against the contrast of its foreboding mountain and high elevation regions. If done right, it can be the prettiest place in the world -- and Bethesda has done nothing but prove again and again how truly capable they are at land design.
It also creates a great emotional setting. The cold and the community, the burning flames of passion and hatred, the isolation and the strength all forming bonds between those who realise they MUST work together or die from the unstoppable winter. And if people have been living there for longer than central air conditioning has existed, you'll find those attitudes in amazing amounts.
Edit: Heres an image from the primary Skyrim location in Arena: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:AR-Img-Labyrinthian.jpg Even this one lacks snow
