Etymology of Skyrim

So I recently reread one of my favorite Nordic mythology tales, and started wondering where Bethesda came up with the name "Skyrim". It's probably a little far fetched, but here goes:

I the tale of Thor's journey to meet with Utgard-Loki in Utgard, he encounters on his way a giant, whose glove he mistakes for a cave and sleeps inside. This giant is in truth Utgard-Loki in disguise, as he is out to spy on Thor. While in this disguise he goes by the name "Skrymir", and we know that Bethesda has loosely based the land of Skyrim on the old viking cultures. Could it also be that they have taken some inspiration for names from the Nordic Mythologies? I'm curious to see which other names will show up once we start playing the game. I think I'll keep a list =)

Skyrim - sky rim. It's the northern-most province on Tamriel and home to the tallest mountains, hence it's the rim of the sky.

That's how I've always seen it, anyway.

Yeah, that's the obvious one. With my knowledge of Nordic Mythologies I just keep finding references, like little easter eggs, everywhere. I'd love some confirmation on where they actually get these names from.

Maybe, but then did they name the Redguard territory after the actions of a butterfingers smith?
