Indeed. A bit strange that the addition of mounts is not decided yet. I wouldn't really care if they didn't include them - better leave them out then do crappy ones like in Oblivion ;)

Yea it's getting pretty deep into development. Hopefully they decide on mounts soon.

"Our first sight of Skyrim in action begins on a mountain path. It winds down past The Throat of the World and through a valley towards the small town of Riverwood, one of nine major locations in each of Skyrim's nine counties. (There are also five huge and iconic cities - expect more on those later in the year.)"

Anyone care to translate what that means then for settlement numbers? :P

You realize though they got the same demo as the ones Game Informer did? There won't be any elements added to the demo they got. For those kinds of questions, we'll have to wait till E3/Quakecon.

Following a brief character-creation process

If they have seen it maybe we will receive information later on in the week?

Yes I do. But they clearly stated that Bethesda "has not decided YET" about it, which has nothing to do with the version of the demo that has been presented.

"I strongly believe that if you have ever played a western RPG for longer than 10 hours and do not find that concept sixually exciting, you should close your web browser and rethink your life." Best. Thing. Ever.

Nine major locations in the nine holds plus the five major cities?

That'd be 81 major locations, which seems a stretch. Could be there'll be 9 settlements plus 5. Or 4 settlements plus 5?

Middle option seems most likely. Either way, a tad disappointing and less than the '20+ settlements' people talked about at the time of GameInformer.

In other news,

"As you climb further, there's a huge stone tower stacked over a precipice, guarded by soldiers. You don't approach it, but it's there. Everywhere you go in Skyrim there seems to be something that belongs to a process - industrial, military, natural, whatever - that is just left to speak for itself."

makes me very very happy. More worldbuilding = great!

I assume just brief in the presentation. You could create a character design wise in a few seconds in oblivion if you wanted to.

I'm not sure what is meant, but it can't mean they are the only settlements. We've even seen other settlement names written along roads on the maps (about 20 of them, which agrees with what some magazines were reporting). I'm guessing there's something important about riverwood that makes it a major location.

There's a new conversation system in Skyrim. You still listen to someone and then choose options from a list, but the selections are nicely arranged and you can look around the shop while you listen, rather than staring intently into each other's eyes in the tunnel-vision fashion of Fallout. (There's no persuasion wheel, although a speech skill remains.)

I do't think the 20 figure was ever officially reported? It was just people guessing from what was on the map, I think? Could be a lot of those names were just landmarks or quests and the like...

"That's pretty cool, but the best bit is what happens when you hit the up direction to choose Skills. At this point you look to the stars and your perk trees appear as constellations. The lines in the stars show you routes of progression between specialisms, and the stars themselves represent the variations you unlock".
