Even more factions?

Post » Thu Jun 10, 2010 4:55 am

I would like to see "Great House" quest lines again.

Sadly, I don't see a return to a long join-able faction list because of voice acting.

Rival join-able factions would be good, and if possible more ways to restrict faction joining condition (IE a Dark Brotherhood Silencer shouldn't be able to join Blades, that's plain silly in their part)

I want some nobles houses. That way, they aren't biased towards any particular kind of character, and the potential for political intrigue and quests aside from dungeon-crawling is massive.

I want werewolves!!!

An alternative for mages guild if it no longer exists would be the glen moril coven. Lore wise they're apparantly pretty set up in Skyrim and since they're like druidy/shaman/witches it could make for some pretty interesting storylines...

I would like more factions. I hope that some of them conflict each other; a bit like the Fighter's Guild and Thieves Guild in Morrowind. It would make for better replay value.

now that I think about it, I really really want a hunters guild and unique big game (not really bosses) to compliment it.
it seems like a nordic kind of thing to do.

With a civil war going on, it would make sense to bring back political factions/great houses.

There is supposed to be a "Bards College" in Skyrim so that should be a joinable faction.

You have not yet mentioned two factions which surely will be in game and rivals: Imperial cult (for Akatosh and divines) and Shor worshipers praying strength for Dovahkiin. Then the usual Daedra worshipers etc.

I'd like a lot of different types of factions.

Political parties/house/clans. Whatever they'll be called one of each would rule a city. Joining one should give you control over that city. For example increasing taxes would mean the guards are better but normal npcs would have less items in their houses or on them. Or creating stupid laws like a curfew. Instead of ranks you would have influence. You could use influence to gain positions such as treasurer [acess to the treasury, sets taxes, etc], high magistrate [creates laws], etc.

Guilds would be proffesions such as mages, mercenaries, etc.

Cults/religeons would give you certain bonuses depending on which one you join. A cult worshiping the concept of battle would make you a better fighter.

Also instead of set quests I'd rather have randomly genrated tasks. For example a rival mages guild gets set up. Your guild wants you to take it out. Doing so will giveyou influence ignoring it wont penalise you. Just wait for the rogue encromancer to ppear t gain more. This way it allows people to progress at their own paces and not be forced into something to advance.

I think Infernal City mentioned that Mages Guild no longer exists (and some two other magic factions with non-generic names have emerged from it).

Yup, the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Synod and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:College_of_Whispers

Rival join-able factions would be good, and if possible more ways to restrict faction joining condition (IE a Dark Brotherhood Silencer shouldn't be able to join Blades, that's plain silly in their part)

If you were a known murderer (had a murder bounty before), this should be true, however, it should be possible to join both. By day a noble knight, by night a ruthless murderer.

didn't they also mention it would happen partly in highrock?
maybe that includes orsinium

Uhh... whatchu talkin' about Willis?

Otherwise I would like to see some guilds like
Fighters Guild
Synod
College of Whispers
Bards College
Vampire Hunters
Imperial Legion
A militia of some sort
Nine Divines (priests)
Regional Knights
Dark Brotherhood
Thieve's Guild
Witch Covens
Vampire Covens
An angry anti-government orginisation
A happy pro-government organisation.

I'd also like traces of other guilds like the Bakers Guild, prosttutes Guild, Travellers Guild, etc.

I'm thinking we'll see a lot of rivalry between either cities, or a few Great Houses akin to Morrowind. Skyrim is apparently still in, or just came out of a civil war, so that opens up some interesting possibilities.

Well you have to consider there'll be te FG, DB, and TG on top of the two new Mage guilds, the Synod and CoW. Add the new Imperial Legion (or.. whatever, Titus Mede's army I guess?) or that faction of detectives of sorts that was in Infernal City. That one seemed really cool.

Also, with most the Dunmer fleeing Morrowind and going toward Skyrim, you have to consider the possibility of maybe House Redoran being a joinable faction perhaps.

Not entirely sure, but I do want plenty of factions, and make it so you can't do them all with one character.

Hopefully the political impact of joining certain factions will return.

I hope so. With all the civil war signs the politics should play a big role.

I want lots of factions, but only if they have decent storylines and quests that go beyond fetch and rescue tasks. The whole civil war thing has got my hopes up for factions that will turn others against you and have more meaty plotlines :)

The Civil War approach is also an excellent and *natural* way to discourage exploring too far too early (if leveling is toned down to something different); show up at the wrong town before peace, and you have hordes of NPCs on your tail. If so, imagine the "get to xxx unseen to deliver this message" quests we could have? Standoff due number of forces vs higher in tech forces, and we are the courier? It also puts natural restrictions to fast travel or travel services. Feasible?

In case you haven't noticed, every Elder Scrolls game has introduced new factions the player can join.

But also less factions in total.

According to The Pocket Guide to the Empire, 3rd Edition - Skyrim, technically there is an anti-Imperial faction in Skyrim, called "The Horme":

"The greatest threat to the Empire's unity occured in the 120th year, when the so-called Wolf Queen of Solitude, Potema, aunt of the Empress Kintyra, launched a rebellion that became a blood civil war. Though it was eventually quelled, the repercussions are evident to this day. There is a strong underground movement called the Horme that believes Potema and her deposed son of Uriel III to be the last of Tiber Septim's true blood and under that principle lead raids against Imperial interests in the province."

I swear that if that faction is not included in Vanilla game, I'll learn how to mod properly and create it.

I expect slightly more factions, they got quite a few complains about the reduction. I also want each faction to be deeper, and more than just a glorified questline. Thirdly I expect more interesting factions due to clans ect.

Yeah, more factions, but they should be intertwined in some common story somehow, at least naturally competing ones. I don't want a circus faction unless it connects, just for the sake of having another faction.
