ever wanted to build hearthfire house for real

If your like me you got it in your head to actually build the hearthfire house in real life, and there are several building techniques one can use to do so.

the foundation is as you know is a stone wall, but if you look at the floor before covering it with tile you will see a dirt floor. which is basically a construction process for those that do not know called rammmed earth,

the rafters are obvioulsy timber framing, (not the easiest thing in the world) but not impossible.

the walls are made from what is called Cob, water clay and straw, an old world technique and if done right can last longer then a modern home. (if I'm not mistaken I believe there is still one standing in england from the 16th century.) another way to build the walls is with the afore mentioned rammed earth, (which would not be any fun) or with cord wood construction, which is what I would choose. cord wood is basically the same as building a stone wall only your using cords of wood, (fire wood)

and for those of you who would rather build a Morrowind style house, then you might want to check out the Earth bag construction method, you can get some craze awsome shapes with that method.

oh and there is one more method that would work on the hearthfire home, straw bale which is kindof like building with legos....kind of.

I would love to have a home like the ones in Hearthfire, but would definitely have the bedroom wing! lol Seriously, when I built Heljarchen Hall, it was built as best I could to how I would want it if I actually lived in it.

Hulu has/had a series online showing the construction of a straw bale house. It was interesting.

I bet my local building authority wouldn't allow it. Too bad I can't put buckets on their heads.

This made me LMAO. :D

There's a lot of quarried stone and clay in the walls iirc. When I built my Heljarchen Hall the finished walls reminded me of old roman type walls that are stone and cement with a smooth cement rendering. In a medieval setting though, the technology of how to make cement and waterproof concrete had been lost.
