Ever wish you could not be Dragonborn?

Ever wished you could play your character without having to be the Dragonborn?

I'm currently playing a High Elf who his mission is to end the current activity of the Thalmor in Skyrim because he believes the Thalmor to be the corruption of his people. But i don't want to be Dragonborn, i think forcing the player to assume to role of the hero "Dragonborn" was a bit of a bold move by Bethesda and i at least wished the game wasn't constantly smashing in your face that your the Dragonborn, specially by the guards (who i might add were really poorly voiced, there is like one voice for the guards and it even sounds really [censored], no that is not accent.. its sounding stupid, which if alright if it wasn't every bloody guard but that's another topic). What do you guys think about that?

never FUS RO DAH.

you can always avoid all the main quests and never even spawn dragons and just do what you want.

Don't fetch the dragonstone for Farengar... You won't kill the first dragon, no dragons will spawn, you won't ever find out you're dragonborn.

Just ignore the MQ. If you don't start it, then Dragons never appear other than the opening scene. My next two characters are not going to touch the MQ.

Haha. It's like your playing God of War 3 but you don't want to be the hero of the story.

Don't start the main quest. When you ignore the main quest you'll never find out you are dragonborn nor do the people... only thing that remains is that you'll learn the words on the wordwalls, but since there are no dragonsouls to win.. well... it's pretty much the same (you can also walk just away from the wordwall ofcourse, or say it's the magic of the wall, not you being dragonborn)

Stop being jackasses guys <_< He brings forward a very valid point that it's impossible to roleplay anything other than a Nord and do the main quest without feeling out of place or not being what is expected of you.

I see no difference really other than I get cool shouts for being dragonborn. Guards say stupid things regardless :)

I have the opposite problem.

When I -am- killing dragons, getting their souls, being a good Dragonborn, I hear guards say stuff like 'You know, I've been thinking...-I- might be the Dragonborn.'

...lol

I ran across a quest for the Storm cloaks that kind of forced me to start the part of the MQ allowing dragons to roam free.
Now this might have been my fault for talking the the Jarl in question about whiterun.

It's perfectly acceptable to not be a nord and be the Dragonborn. The only role that didn't make sense with every race was the Nerevarine.

QFT

The only thing the MQ is good for is to obtain the spells effects that would normally be part of what makes up a Mage.

still made sense. lord neravar was around 2000 years before the game. the bloodline was long diluted. could have been a [censored] goat for all we know. hey what happens in tamriel stays in tamriel.

The only thing I don't like about the main quest is that you can ignore it but they make sure they'll make you feel bad about it.

Spoiler
Alvor : We NEED your help, Riverwood is defenseless (a.k.a we'll all die if you, the hero don't go alert the Jarl)

Spoiler
Balgruuf : You should leave for High Hrotghar at once ! There is no refusing the summon of the Greybeards

I preferred when it was like in Morrowind '' Come see me when you're ready, and I'll give you your next assignment ''

Not really that big of a spoiler but can't really ignore the guy I quote:
Spoiler
Before you go to Alvor the guy often sais it will be best to part ways.. Do so and just ignore Riverwood as much as possible or at least alvor, that's quiet possible since I (always followed the Stormcloak guy) never done it myself). that point is quiet a logical one to depart from the main quest. I actually quiet long ignored the call for the Greybeards simply with the excuse that I know the path will be long and dangerous and I wanted to train with the Companions till I'm strong enough before I depart on the pilgrimage (and I ofcourse want to appear before the Greybeards when I'm worthy enough)

lol

The other day I was thinking about what Bethesda could do for a remake of Morrowind. Except that instead of getting of the boat, going to balmora joining the blades etc. You would start somewhere else, be someone else and have an AI character take the role we played. Giving us the option of encountering them on their travels, helping or hindering them or simply killing them and taking back or over that role again.

I go as far as letting the dragons appear, I rarely use shouts, I just like seeing them and fighting them.

It wasn't exactly a "bold move". Bethesda forced being the Nerevarine on the player in Morrowind.

The best remake would be one of Skyrim.
Y'know, one that doesn't reward hours of dedicated play with not letting you play anymore...

Same here. My smith guy is definitely not going to be such a hero as to kill dragons! :)

Being the Nerevarine was actually more bold since you got that dream in the start of the game from Azura saying she'll protect you, and that you are chosen.
Well... the Champion of Cyrodiil was even more forced in its role... but I never really cared about it since I always do the Main Quest with my character, since well... the whole gameworld is build around the Story of the Main Quest since those stories are always rooted in the Lore of that province. and they've to me always been the best questlines in the Elder Scrolls games.
