Every annoying Npc is essential "smart"

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 12:25 pm

This is really game breaking, I'm annoyed with the immortal EVERYONE.

For example Marcy Long is completely useless in the game does nothing whatsoever but always is completely rude to the player, despite being essentially the Jesus Christ of the wasteland, we single handedly built the home she is living in, we cleared all the dangers around said home and continue to find resources for the settlement so we can prosper. While she does absolutely nothing. These npcs must have been added to troll the player. Why on earth was she made essential?

I also love that your own companions such as Piper can turn on you for stealing from certain good people. I'm also glad you made them all immortal too, I wouldn't want to be able to retaliate, two wrongs don't make a right, so lets make them friggin essential. (kind of interesting that the most dangerous person in the wasteland is powerless to stop his/her companions from shooting at them.) Wouldnt be that hard to create an option in gameplay settings which removes immortality from all of the companions.

What was the train of thought that went into the creation of some of these characters? ("Hey guys BEST IDEA, lets create a woman named Marcy Long. She will consistently nag the player every time she is around him/her and lets also make her essential we wouldn't want her getting whats coming to her.")

Even evil characters we are supposed to hate are more likeable than those that are supposed to be our allies. Too bad we cannot side with these evil characters as we are stuck in a linear good guy storyline.

Is there any shame in collaborating with Obsidian and having them include some choices and variety? Then you could still put all of your staff into making the game as they normally would.

The features are so good in this game that it made fallout 4 super enjoyable, the lack of choice however, and making it difficult to tell who is immortal ( as 20% of the good npcs are bulletproof) pretty much undid all of those added features.

I am sorry to you new generation gamers that will not understand what made fallout truly unique. In order to understand you'd have to play "old" games which apparently bothers many people having to downgrade in graphics.

Maybe Beth knew that we'd find them annoying and want to eliminate them and they just wanted to be sure that we were endlessly bothered?

Right? meanwhile you killed a deathclaw and brought stockpiles of resources back to the settlement and all shes doing is hammering the same broken ventilated fan near your workbench thats all she ever does. Hammers for 2 minutes then walks around [censored]ing.

It's the coming in from the Commonwealth, my arms burgeoned with loot and goodies, the endless toil to provide for a solid and safe home ... only for her to quip "What made you think we are friends?"

I swear, if anyone deserves to be kicked out of the settlement, it's her. I should totally be able to put my baseball bat right across that smug f**king face of hers without aggroing the town. Heck, I'd expect them to get a bump in happiness.

Have y'all assigned her to anything? My Marcy spends all her time in the field tending to my Tato's. I rarely even see her unless I run across her at the bar or in the door of her abode with her husband.

EVERY npc is like this, Even preston Garvey, "hey general I got more things for you to do" (Proceeds to single handedly ally 20 settlements to our cause). "Nice work general now would you mind getting even more settlements to our cause while I remain here picking [censored]in tato's and corn.

I assigned Marcy to my mutfruit garden and haven't interacted with her since, so haven't experienced her personality.

Can you move her to another settlement? Maybe one you don't care for and never visit?

I've a small outpost north west of Tenhills (I think that's its name) where I send people I don't like :)

Not all of them are unkillable. The guy in the stands outside in the bar with the robot who had a problem with me being in the cloud district or whatever was killable.

She's essential due to being a Minuteman, really. Since the MQ requires you to have side with at least one of the factions, Bethesda made it so that the Minuteman can never be against you (so you can complete the MQ). You automatically become the enemy of a faction if you kill a named individual of that faction (For example, you can sneak-kill all of the Brotherhood Nameless Paladins you want, but once you killed a named Scribe. Boom! Enemy).

Do i what did, make a tunnel with floor activated switches. Attach those switches to flame throwers. Tell marcy to walk through the tunnel.

Nope, named settlers can not be moved from any settlement. But most of them are not essential. Beth really devoted fan here and i can't defend this. i understand that certain NPCs need to be kept alive for the sake of quests but once they are all completed and an NPC has outlived it's usefulness then the essential flag should drop. I love Beth but on this i agree, we need dynamic essential flags on NPCs.

Could even put the switch behind dialog so you could switch it off manually and avoid accidental deaths(which are the main reason for the essential flags in the first place).

You - "Hey {insert NPC name}, i don't like you"

NPC - "what are you going to do?"

You - "Kill you"

NPC - "Are you sure you want to do that?"

You - "Yes"

Eh, I never get worked up over the essential v. non-essential debate. If you make them non-essential, half the people break their quests and then rail endlessly about it. If you make them essential, the other half go on and on about immerzhun or telling people the devs are just lazy... whatever. Sorry - just not a debate I take seriously. But that's me.

I don't kill annoying people in real life, I just ignore them. In the game, I assign Marcy to farming which she does for certain hours of the day. Jun, I dressed in Fashionable glasses, road leathers and a knit cap, making him the first commonwealth wasteland hipster. He was all about the wasteland before it was cool to be, like, settling it and stuff...

You can, of course, move your workstations to an area they don't frequent.

Consider how flat out unrealistic it is for a person of pre war morals to respond to someone being annoying by trying to kill them it honestly kinda makes sense, its a good way to discourage players from having this cold, meta "its just a video game character" approach.

Plus so far I haven't meet a NPC that didn't have a motivation for some of those "annoying" behaviours.

I moved Sturges to the Red Rocket down the road. I haven't tried any further away, though.

I'm not using any mods so assumed I could send anyone anywhere.

You can tell settlers to go live somewhere else? I thought the only thing you can do is have them work supply lines.

I think he means the armor, armor, chem, power armor, and food workstations and not the red one that creates a settlement.

Yup. I do it all the time, especially with new settlements. I also learned from my fellow forumers, since, apparently I have an issue with segregation of the ghoulash's from the humanash's that I can send all of them to different settlements. You'd have thought after 2 runthroughs already and so much settlement building that I would have figured that one out already.

Not the named ones. I could with Stirges, but not any of the others, and no one at Abernathy.
