Everybody dies game?

Post » Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:50 am

I am thinking about starting an "everybody dies" game, where I kill all killable NPC's. I don't think this would be possible without first being max level, so lets just add "sooner or later" to that.

Would it be possible? I'm well aware I would be burning a lot of bridges, but I just want to know what it would be like if there were like.. NO NPC's left in the game, short of the unkillable "essential" characters.

Also, I don't think it would be possible to kill followers, as they are .. well... extremely stronger than you are. wonder how that would work out...

I have actually done that.

Megaton's population was reduced to the two children.

Underworld was completely cleansed so it's now an empty building.

Rivet City was also dwindled down to just Harkness, two children, Flak, Shrapnel, and a doctor.

Paradise Fallls totally cleansed of slavers.

Republic of Dave dwindled down to the children.

Citadel dwindled down to just a few Scribes and Brotherhood soldiers and their leader.

GNR completly cleansed of everyone in there, including Three Dog.

You can kill the followers as well. Just make sure you don't begin Broken Steel because some like Fawkes pretty much become unstoppable, immortal death machines.

EDIT: I'd make a seperate save for that, because you might end up being bored of playing in an empty, desolate world.

I imagine it's even more desolate (and empty of vendors) if you do certain (spoilery) plot choices that clear out even some of those characters out of Rivet City. That may leave you without any (well-stocked) merchant in the game. Certainly doable, but probably boring eventually ... and when do decide the game is "done"?

It COULD be possible, but you would have to disable respawns, as I am sure that Raiders would respawn in the wastelands along with all other creatures and NPC's you would encounter.

I also thing that un-named characters, such as Megaton Settler(s) tend to respawn in the towns, but don't quote me on that.

Sounds pretty sick. But the cast of unkillable people seems pretty interesting... some lead characters, a vendor or two, and a bunch of kids. The only unchanged settlement would be Little Lamplight.

You would have to leave Paradise Falls alive until you could enslave all of the Raiders/Enclave/Talons/Outcasts/BoS in order to avoid them respawning. It would take some time but you could eventually have a world populated solely by animals, Muties, the kids, Shrapnel and Doc Preston.

Between robots and Muties you'd still have a weapon and ammo supply. Running out of stimpaks wouldn't be an issue since you can eat/drink/sleep to heal. It might be an interesting goal to try to achieve.

Sick, sick, sick... BTW, why is Doc Preston indestructible when the other docs aren't?

I've speculated that Shrapnel and Doc Preston are both essential so that no matter how bad a rampage the player went on, you would still have a weapons merchant and doctor available to you. It can't be because of his part in Replicated Man since you can kill people involved in other quests so why would Beth care so much about that one.

Good point, but there is another doc available: Lucy from Little Lamplight. And she's essential.

Oh right. I always forget about the LL brats. I try not to go there unless I absolutely have to. I don't know then. Maybe someone accidentally ticked the "Essential" box on Shrapnel and Doc

Yeah, I really don't get it either.

Honestly, it does seem like a little too much of a challenge for me. the more I think about it, the harder it sounds, and for no *real* gain.. the world in fallout 3 is bigger than you first think, hehe. I was thinking.. man.. Oasis... tenpenny, andale, even canterbury commons, and Temple of the union (or lincoln memorial)... so many places to .. "visit"

Hmm. It would definitely be an interesting challenge. Call it the plague run, as you are leaving nothing but death in your wake :P

All the NPCs involved with the replicated man quest are esential, and shrapnel is involved in another quest. It seems some quest NPCs are essential and some aren't for some reason.
