Everybody's old favorite standby looks to return

It wouldn't be a Fallout game without... the http://imgur.com/a/AVYcF.

Now let's see if they remembered to put the magazine slot hole through the stock and in the bottom of the receiver this time.

Was the Gauss rifle acquirable early on, and useful and practical for much of the rest of the game?

Curious what caliber it uses this time, if its a common enough one, I might just arm my close/mid range sneak character with one, for the extra challenge.

Is it just me or is that Raider wearing power armour?

I hated the hunting rifle in fallout 3. It desperately needed the improvements it got in New Vegas. If the new one is more like the latter, it will probably be my go to rifle.

Ah, the Hunting Rifle! Ammo was plentiful, damage was decent with criticals, and it was easy to find copies to repair it with. I'm glad to see it return and I'm curious to see how we can modify it! Assault Hunting Rifle perhaps?

Yeah, I had the same sentiment towards the FO3 rifle. The FONV rifle was an ideal mankiller rifle for pretty much the rest of the game. Of course... I wouldn't take it big game hunting against 'Claws or such, but for popping the heads of sporting goods savages or fiends, it's my best friend. It was also the only one of the .308-chambered guns that could fire the JSPs for any appreciable amount of time before falling apart.

It is indeed wearing power armor. It also demonstrates that the armor plates can fall off exposing the exoskeleton "underwear" for the armor.

I know that some people prefer it that way, but the bolt on the left side of the rifle is going to bug me to no end.
Still, with interchangeable scopes and barrels, plus bayonets, the hunting rifle should be fun to use. Hopefully its a .308 caliber again and not a .32. That thing was garbage.

Im curious if we can replace the stock with a pistol handle, I personally always enjoyed the, partly impractical yet interesting concept of turning a rifle into a one handed weapon.

Sounds like we should be able to do it. If not then hopefully the .44 Magnum returns and we can scope it!

The New Vegas hunting rifle was where it was at. I packed one everywhere I went. I don't think I ever really used the actual sniper rifle, it was either use the hunting rifle for long shots or drag out the anti-material rifle for the really stubborn enemies.

It's just a left-hand shooter's rifle. Problem with that is, the PC is obviously a right-handed shooter, so it looks odd when the action is worked.

Judging by the quick passby of a revolver at Beth E3 video, not only can ya scope it, ya can put a stock on it and basically make a rifle pistol.

The hunting rifle looks even better in Fallout 4. Good loud bang with a huge amount of recoil kicking up. I'm sure it'll be one of my mainstay weapons. The idea of a lone survivalist taking on the world with his trusty bolt-action and canine companion is something that I absolutely adoring. And the bayonet just makes it even better, I can't wait until we see bayonets in action.

Was the Gauss rifle acquirable early on? No.

Was the Gauss rifle ... useful and practical for much of the rest of the game? Hells ya! Once I got it in F3 and FNV, I never looked back.

Always sold every hunting rifle I came across. Then again, I'm one of those filthy, disgusting energy weapon toting peasants.

You never know - with the right perks you might be able to re-chamber your firearms. I personally like the idea of the 10mm pistol re-chambered to fire .44 magnum rounds.

As for the hunting rifle, I'm almost certain I'll be able to add a supressor this time, which was the only thing missing in NV. Apart from that it was perfect.

Doubtful I dont see what mod slot ya put it in, plus, we already seen there is a .44 pistol, why make a base gun if a mod could cover the same?

Maybe not, then. I hadn't seen the .44 pistol though, so thanks for that :)

Well we haven't seen it in action, but during the moding demo you can spot that the player has the option to mod one in the list.

How did they do it in Fallout 3?

Plenty of the older hunting rifles don't have a detachable magazine, you are unlikely to use more than 5 bullets during an engagement anyway.

Many newer models have it as its easier to remove the magazine then you empty the weapon and you keep extra rounds safe in an extra magazine.

Weird with the bolt on the left side, very weird. Must reduce rate of fire a lot :(

And yes its an nice early sniping rifle, with the new moding system it should be easy to upgrade with both an scope and an larger magazine.

Unlike in real world hunting we will frequently need more than 5 bullets.

The Hunting Rifle is that weapon that you may never intend to use, but ammo was plentiful enough to make it a beneficial backup when you ran out of ammo for your preferred weapon.

Not as good as a sniper rifle, and not as fast on the shot as an AK or pistol, but a step above the shotgun in terms of range and damage when you didn't want to be right up an enemies crotch to deal sufficient damage.

In a way the Hunting Rifle is the Food Network of weapons. You never mean to watch it, but in a pinch and there's nothing else on, it works.

I only used hunting rifle in Tactics as it was the first long range weapon, still didn't like it.
