everyday items as weapons

Post » Tue Dec 28, 2010 8:08 am

i hated the fact that in Oblivion you wouldnt use things like brooms, troules, sythes and other farming or mining or blacksmith tools as weapons. Im sure if you attacked a farm then the farmer would uses the tool in real life rather than drop it and use fists. Sythes were also used as weapons by the Druids in ancient britain when the romans landed so its really not that far fetched. What does everybody else think?

Using hoes and rakes and whatnot would be interesting weapons, and it would add to the immersion. I don't think scythes should be useable weapons, I think they should save that for making an awesome daedric artifact that's a scythe. :toughninja:

I suppose your right in the fact that farmers would not really use fists in a fight if they had access to a scythe or other sharp farming tool. But I really dont see a point to having our character being able to use it as a weapon, because think about it how much damage can be inflicted on a dragon or other tough enemy wearing armor when alls your using in a little scythe or broom.

i think most of you are underestimating the sythe, if sharpened correctly they can cut through someone as easly as a sword can, and there could also be diffrent kind of sythes, hand held one, which would be like a short sword, or the big ones like you see in Dantes inferno, or like you see death carrying around, they could be your two handed sythe.

While killing Alduin with a spoon would be cool, it's too much work for not enough fun.

I think Skyrim should have them. However, where does it stop before getting ridiculous? Aye to a war scythe and I can see the use in violence for a stool, flask or even a mug or mead horn in a tavern, but trying to spoon someone to death should not work. xD

Ever heard of Malefic Maud and her band of old ladies? Running around Freeside and killing people with their rolling pins? It's a household item, I don't see this being a problem and it's definitely not far-fetched.

actually, you could use some farming tools as weapons in oblivion... unfortunately, it was only two and they were added through the mehrunes' razor DLC...

the heavy rake and rockpick hoe, i think they were called?

...actually, you know what... looking at UESP wiki's page for it... er, there was apparently a plain "hoe" weapon, too... and from what it says, it had a 4% chance of giving you the disease "ticklebritch".

dunno if thats true, but if it is... i think bethesda felt like adding a dirty joke in with mehrunes' razor.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Hoe#Hoe

back on topic, now... i would love to be able to use normal items as weapons, such as scythes, pitchforks, etc... it'd be pretty funny using a broom to fight dragons!

maybe people should send tweets to pete about that, maybe he could pass it along that the players wanna be able to use non-weapons as weapons.

I think it would be a really cool idea if you could use any thing you pick up to beat on some one or throw at them. It shouldn't be as strong as a real weapon but it could hurt them just a little bit.

It would be especially cool if your weapons could wear down and break too. So you whollop some guard over the head with a broomstick and you can see it shatter. Or watch the Dremora laugh hysterically as the tines of your fork mash uselessly against daedric plate.
