Everyone hates me

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 10:14 am

So, you're wandering around the woods minding your own business when all of a sudden you're attacked by a bear. Fine, let's beat the crap out of it. A few steps further and you're attacked by a mountain lion. Then by a pack of wolves. Then by a group of bandits along the road. Then you enter a cave and you're attacked by a skeleton. Then you exit the cave and you're attacked by a bunch of rats. Geez. Basically you're attacked by just about anything that moves. Have you ever had the feeling that in the TES series everyone hates you? Ok, they are called enemies for a reason, but enemies should think twice before attacking a full armored character who might crush their heads with a single blow of his mighty mace. What do you think of NPCs able to tell whether you're an easy prey or a Real Badass? by the way you look? Also, do you have any other suggestions to improve the AI?

[on a side note some of those lucky guys who have played the demo reported that enemies now warn the player before attacking him, which sounds like a nice improvement over previous TES games]

Good news! The developers at Bethesda have noticed your post and have requisitioned a time machine to go back several months and add AI to animals so they don't always attack you on sight.

Having in mind they've 2 weeks of remaining developing time at most, do you REALLY think it's time for such suggestions?

One of the eurogamer reviews mentioned that wolves ignored them and a bandit told them to stay away

The faction system has been greatly improved and tweaked.

And besides, whats an open world RPG without combat? You have to fight something.

did they really say that? doesn't a bandits entire job have to do with killing people then taking their money?

Why not? Taking into account the armor level as an AI variable would be really that hard and time consuming?

I, however, love you. You stated my full opinion.

"Hey. My name is Bandit. I hang around the roads, kill people, and take their cash. It's all cool.

Hey look, it's Sheogorath, Prince of Madness, level 30, with fully enchanted Daedric Armour, Spells that turn him invisible and kill anyone in one hit. Plus a wide array of customized weapons.
Also, this guy has got the most powerful dagger in the world, defeated the entire Mythic Dawn cult, has a castle and a tower, a few hideouts and a Daedric Realm.

I, on the other hand, have some fur armour and a rusty iron dagger. And one HUGE ego.

I can take him easily."

That's the AI I want to see changed.

Supposedly bandits don't always attack you now. And also animals have their own agendas such as hunting where they won't attack you.

My biggest problem was actually in MW. I would be walking the Ashlands wearing full Daedric Armor and two Dunmer bandits would attack me with Chitin weapons. I was always "You got to be kidding me!"

OB fixed this by giving the bandits Daedric armor as soon as I could get it. :whistling:

From what I've been hearing about encounters with bandits, it does seem like they give warnings and act differently whether you have your weapon drawn or not. I am curious though as to whether or not a bunch of Orc bandits would be friendlier to a PC Orc, or Nords to a Nord, etc. That would be pretty cool.

Morrowind~

*Buff champion in Daedric Armor carrying a flaming sword the size of a man walking casually in the Ashlands*

Random bandit dressed in sack clothes : "Hey, that looks like an easy target!" *rushes towards the champion*
