Everyone using the same build?

Heavy armor wearing Imperial with a sword+shield rushing in and obliterating my foes is satisfying to me.

My Nord has delved into all trades. He started as a heavy armored warrior. Then a light armored archer. Not he is practicing the arcane arts.

Shields are bloody brilliant. Someone casting a channeling stream of mystical energies? Shield bash. Dragon shouting a stream of pain? Block with a shield with the Elemental Reduciton perk. Dragon lands and wants to shout at you? Smack him in the chops. That Chief gonna cleave you in two with his two hander? Bash.

Shield Bash is literally the answer for everything.

Hmm, Ill add some perks to blocking and try it out. Ive been wanting to raise my armor rating and switch from a 2hander to more of a tanky kind of orc with the hitting power of a truck lol.

I like to play a sneak based character for one main reason; the playstyle's effectiveness is based more on the player's skill and planning than it does with a fighter. With a fighter, the skill of the player comes into effect too, but the raw stats of armor/weapons/etc. play a huge role.

Hybrid Mage...

Ward in one hand, Conjured sword in the other, wearing Heavy armor.

If things get hairy I usually just use Oakflesh.

Just be careful you don't become a jack of all trades. You might find it difficult further down the track.

Hey, Ive been looking at the forums a while and noticed most of you are playing archery/sneak/dual wielding thieves/assassins. Why is that? Doesnt it get boring being able to one hit most if not all foes?

Considering all the threads about magic being over/under-powered, I figured a bunch of people were playing mages.

Me, I'm playing an archery, sneak, sword&board, restoration, fighter/ranger (/smith/alchemist/enchanter/locksmith.....)

It's possible that everyone plays the same build because Bethesda thought it would enhance their game to remove a bunch of skills. Don't ask why. It's not an intelligent idea, but I'm not the one who had it.

You're playing a two-handed weapon fighter and you're talking about one hitting people getting boring?

You must only be like level 2.

I one hit things (including the weakest dragons) with my dual-wield guy, and I am not even level 20.

Note how I said Im lvl 16. Enough with the trolling, please.

Have you seen any decent 1 handed axes? All I find are plain iron/steel axes. Id use swords but I feel more like an orc wielding an axe, >:P

Warrior was the next best thing seeing as I couldnt really use my fists as a skill. :L
I just put a point into heavy armor to get the unarmed perk that makes me do my gauntlets armor rating in damage.

I've always been about stealth no matter what game I play, although i don't always one shot everything, and when i get caught, i bring out dual wielded enchanted swords cause i also went on the one handed skill tree.

And being light armored makes it fun cause i have to go and and quickly move around to dodge attacks,

I dont recall becoming annoyed by it. Just wondering why everyone prefers to use sneak/archery etc etc. I remember being extremely overpowered in oblivion using sneak attacks with poisoned/enchanted weapons. Skyrim just seems to be really limited on what we can do as far as character building.

I myself play a heavy armor wearing orc that wields a skullcrushing warhammer. I find it fun being able to charge head on into fights and not rely on stealth and big crits or whatever..Idk just a thought.

I chose a stealth / archery build because my main characters in tes series have all been heavy armor warriors.

I decided this time to main something different. I'll make a warrior in time. Maybe even a mage (yuck!).

I run a multitude of characters. An assassin no thievry it didn't fit him. I was kind of getting tired of the thieve's guild comments, "We don't run like the brotherhood". So I deleted all the saves of him in the thieves guild because my character was in the dark brotherhood beforehand and it's just annoying to hear, don't kill anyone bad for business, and we don't run like the brotherhood. Remember we're not the brotherhood. I know already. -.-

Then I run a Battle Necro Mage, which is pretty awesome.

Those are my two main characters.

The Battle Necro Mage is Chaotic Nuetral Lawful. And my assassin is chaotic nuetral.

1. Read the tread before you post such nonsense: obviously not everyone is playing the same build
2. Most of "removed" skills were simply transformed into perks and Perks do need a lot of choices to be made... a lot more than any former TES game
3. Dark Brotherhood is popular ever since OB came out thus why many people like to play assassins. Rangers are also always weirdly popular stereotypes to play due to people liking the idea. In other words, it doesn't have anything to do with mechanics
4. SR was made especially for battlemages, not stealth-oriented characters

this is a SINGLE PLAYER ROLE PLAYING GAME!!!
play how you want! that's what everyone else is doing!!!
now if this was an MMO i could see your frustration, but you'll never interact w/ these people's characters so i don't see a problem here.

goodness gracious.

Just wondered why most of you play sneak/archery characters. Youre obv a troll just trying to get post count up, I slay trolls for their fat in skyrim.

I enjoy playing a thief, but I'm either a thief-warrior or a thief-mage. I mainly use stealth for occasional sneak attacks, pickpocketing, burgling, and stuff like that, while at the same time being able to hold my own in a fight.

Seen a couple good looking ones. But what you wanna do is level up your smithing and craft your items, Rather than find them. I craft ALL my items. Except for enchanted...Also don't forget to mine/buy some of the ores/buy the ingots directly to make the items. That seems to help me when I need a new weapon.

Does a shield really help a lot? Ive found some pretty nice ones but since shields didn't really help me in morrowind or oblivion I figured they wouldnt make a difference in skyrim. Im currently lvl 16 with 3 perks in smithing and 13 perks left. Figured id play around with the other skills to see what I like. Trying to stick to a heavily armored orc berserker or something of that sort.

Shield does help a lot. Just look at the perks:

deflect arrows (archers won't be a problem ever again)
elemental protection (the damage of destruction spells that mages cast at you is cut in half!)
quick reflexes + block runner (block when an enemy is doing a powerattack and time will slow down. With block runner, you will have all the ttime in the world to avoid getting hit),
"shield charge" (sprint with shield rised and knock down everything!)

Where do you find the mines? Ive only found one mine so far and it hasnt respawned its ores after about a week of ingame time. Ive crafted an orc battleaxe and tempered it to flawless, cant really add enchantments because my enchanting is so low xD, I probs should raise it or remake my character for the 7th time o,O

I play a sneak/dual wielding/thief/assassin in EVERY game that I play and if I thought it was boring I'd play something else. Its called personal preference and when I play MY games I consider MY preference, not yours.

For the record, not one of the 6 personal friends of mine who have this game are playing the same build as me and there are hundreds of posts and/or videos, here and else where on the internet, showing people playing many builds other than what you have described.

Play and let play, ok?
