Is everyone with Win7 64-bit having problems?

Post » Wed Nov 24, 2010 4:17 pm

Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.4Ghz
Radeon 5870 1GB
8GB RAM
SoundBlaster X-Fi
Windows 7 Pro x64

Runs really well most of the time. I am getting framerate drops near human NPCs like many others are, though. Other than that no glitches or crashes after about 6 hours of playing. Hopefully the NPC slowdown will get a patch...it feels like something just needs optimization.

That's going to be the GeForce 9100. It's not a really a gaming GPU. What other games do you play on that machine?

I played fallout 3 with this... any suggestions and how i can get another GPU is there someithing i can download?

Go to a store/e-tailer and buy one. It's a graphics card. I'd like to see you download one of those. :P /facetiousness

amd 3.4 ghz b.e. (4 core)
8gb pc 1600
windows 7 (64 bit)
baracuda 1.5 t
2x gtx 260 (2 way sli)

default video settings with grass and shadows turned off.

Lag city! i cant take 5 stepps with out somthing needing loaded. Npc are a motion killer. The save files and auto save files act like a virus.

I have deleated the autosave i have "removed" it from the "my documents" file i have done everything i can to remove the file and it replaces itsself like a virus.

I took 2 days off of work as paied vacation because i was soo excited about this game comming out. I love fallout. But i am really bummed out and upset that i now feel i waisted vacation time and vacation pay. I feel i paied money and missed work to beta test the release of fallout.

I will note this in any future consumer related buisness with bethesda.

Windows 7 64-bit.
Alienware m17x-R2
Dual ATI 4870's
Intel i7 940

So far, thankfully, no issues after about 6 hours of play.

Which is nice, because the drivers are a real PIA on this thing.

Wanted to cross-post to give people some hope:

I tried the .DLL fix on my lunch break and it indeed did work on my Win 7 64 bit machine. Fully maxed with 60 FPS. Scanned with Panda Cloud Antivirus, found nothing.

That seemded to fix my problem as well until my computer started having it's own problems XD Which at first though was ZOMG virus, but I'm starting to think is my power source.

What's silly is that on this REALLY crappy computer with a 7900, 2 gig ram, AMD 64 X2 3800+ .... I can run medium with some upgraded stats with a breeze! It's like they made this game specifically for crappy computers... you know like the crappy computer called xbox 360 XD

It's likely something to do with either Direct X version being used, meaning Direct X 11 capable video cards vs Direct X 9.

or

Processors with more than 2 cores.

I would like to see someone with a DX11 card, Quad core processor, Win 7 64 bit say they aren't having any problems.

DX11 installed, on a Geforce 220, IntelI5, quadcore, Win7 64 bits, as I've said before the moment i installed the latest NVidia drivers the slowdowns ended, no problems whatsoever.

Hi,

I wanted to let folks know that new drivers were released by Nvidia on 2010.10.18 (Version 260.89 WHQL).

One of the improvements for Windows 7 is listed as follows:

Improves compatibility for older PC games (DirectX 7 to DirectX 9) running on Windows 7 (examples: Gothic, Gothic II, Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, Links 2003, Independence War II - Edge of Chaos, and X2: Wolverine's Revenge).

Please download the latest drivers from Nvidias website:

http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html

I think this might help for Windows 7 64 bit users.

Hey all. So I tried the .ini thing, reinstalled the game, tried many settings, checked .ini read only settings, tried 197 and 260 nVidia driver. I get the same result every time: I can watch the intro video but I get crash-to-desktop as soon as the loading is done before what I presume is the game. It's a Q9550 with ENGTX280. 4GB ram and 8 from readyboost (tried with that disabled too) on Win 7 pro 64 bit. Funny story though, It's like a refurb swap card that I just got back, which doesn't seem as fast as the other I send for warranty (let me underline that the original issue IS fixed) but I can't play FO3 anymore either... and I played it with the same system I have right now with the exception of the replaced card. Other games do indeed work.

picked up the d3d9.dll and was finally able to play for a while. neat game but it's quite annoying that we all had to troubleshoot like this to play a game, and it's still not perfect. I'm glad to see patches come in but I'm still getting wolves that get stuck under the bedrock after fast travel and reloding a save; floating undetonated dynamite; game crashes when going to some rather specific areas (like at the top of the rollercoaster in Primm, which I only managed by creeping up a quick hit forward at a time) and some amound of chop when turning quickly.

umm, keep those patches coming...?

Adding to post.

My system is not overclocked, my os is a legal copy and registered with all updates. My video and system drivers are up to date.

My drivers are up to date i had installed them before posting here. I have done everything required for a regular person to offer the best possible platform for the game to run. I can run f3 just fine. The only other possible problem is the game just doesn't work with my hardware. I am really hoping this issue can be handled correctly and is not simplt brushed aside under the premis of "it a user issue".

It definitely seems to be a Nvidia+Windows7x64 combination... with the occasion here and there from someone not fitting that... I'm reading as many threads for ideas and info, but no one seems to have hit the fix yet :0( COME ON PEOPLE! it's been like... almost 24 hours and you STILL haven't fixed it for Bethesda! HOW DARE YOU!!!

 Tempted to go get another vid card (ATI) at Best Buy just to see if that helps or not. Kind of an expensive option. But then I will have ATI and Nvidia so there would be no stopping me! haha. So far the DirectX 9 DLL workaround workds for me EXCEPT I cannot get into the Console mode (~) and probably not the GECK either (have not tried that).

My gaming rig is Win7 64-bit with the ATI 5780 video card. I have not purchased the game but I see all these posted problems.

I see no reason to purchase the game so that it sits on my hard drive waiting for a patch.

Win7 (x64) and nvidia GT8800.

Can't even install successfully after multiple reinstallations of steam and fallout new vegas.

After setting the fallout launcher.exe and falloutnv.exe to run as admin, and sitting through the opening cutscene to save for the first time...I think my initial troubles may be behind me. I also reinstalled steam & FNV to the default location instead of my preferred (larger) hard drive, which may have made a difference. Onward to the next bug!!

Win7 64bit, ATI HD5800 series.

While it was downloading I was browsing populair mods on nexus and saw the .dll fix being one of the most used ones, so I downloaded that and installed it right after the game finished downloading. So I haven't tried playing it without that .dll. It did automatically put my settings to medium so I manually cranked them back up to ultra high, though I plan to lower them again tomorrow to see if that makes a difference.
The main problem I'm getting are sudden freezes, when I'm saving or entering a cell or just walking around, whatever, after 10 or 15 minutes or so into the game. I then get the whole "FNV.exe encountered a problem and is trying to find a solution" message and it doesn't do anything.

I've been browsing the forum all day and I've seen plenty of people making angry posts about this all. I understand that they/you are angry that the game is not working for whatever reason and are going to refund it while being all "RAWR" and "I'm never buying a Bethesda game again**" about it and such, but I'm sure that Bethesda/Obsidian are doing everything they can to get a fix out asap. I doubt that they're happy about this either. I have faith that a fix will come sooner or later. X3 I was spitting curses too this morning but being angry is not going to get a fix out sooner or force the game to miracously work all of the sudden.

Just my two cents.

**You know you will buy TESV when it comes out :P

I am also having npc slowdowns but the dll fix seemed to work for me, however I am seeing a lot of npcs with glowing purple heads & weird lines on their faces as well. Tryed taking out dll but purple problem remains and npc slowdown returns.

I have a Nvidia GTX 285 and Windows 7 64-bit, and I have the npc slow down. (from 60 fps down to 5-10 when pointing at a human NPC)

I have 3 of those too. Only 1 is in use, the game just doesnt use the other 2 yet. the card that is running doesnt show much of a load. Temps are way down too. i think it is something that nVidia can fix in a patch. I just wish it would come quick.

I have the following:

Windows 7 Professional 64Bit
Geforce 8800GT 512MB
Intel Q6700
4GB RAM

My machine is dated, but is more than capable of running Fallout3 with little or no problems. However since installing Windoews 7 (I was on XP x64) I started having problems with FO3.

I installed NV thinking that it would run the same as FO3 and I was very wrong. After completing the introduction with the doc I ventured out and started going through the tutorials with Sunny and then my game just started hard locking my system forcing me to use the reset button on my PC which ultimately led to problems booting windows. Not a good start. After messing around with any number of fixes and tweaks I finally did the following:

I set the launcher and game EXEs to always run as administrator and I set all the graphics options to minimum. I haven't had a crash all day except after exiting the game (a bug that Oblivion and FO3 players will be very familiar with).

When the game initially detected my video it set everything to "High" and I assumed that it was right, but clearly it wasn't. Those of you having major crashing, lockups or just general massive slowdown, try minimising all the graphics settings to see if it stops the problem. We shouldnt have to, but it works, which is a big improvement on not being able to play at all imo.

I still get major slowdown when there are multiple NPCs in my sight, but that's another problem for another day, and it doesn't crash/lockup my machine so I'll just deal.

Hope this helps some of you get into what is actually a very enjoyable game.

Windows 7 64-bit with an 8800gts and dual core Intel 3.0 gHz processor. I've had no graphical problems, or at least no major ones aside from some of the weird framerate stuff people are getting (but it's barely been issue). All my problems are related to broken quests, which are a game issue, not a hardware/OS issue.

I have Win 7 64 bit and am running fine without problems, no stutter and no fps issues.

Then there actual in-game bugs, like Nipton town terminal message titled wrong and etc. but i suppose that doesn't go with the topic.

I'm only posing this to show that not everyone with Win 7 64 bit is having problems, but then there are some.
