Is everyone with Win7 64-bit having problems?

Post » Thu Nov 25, 2010 7:16 am

Here's what I have:

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
Intel i5 750
HD 5850
4gb ram

I've only had one crash in nearly 20 hours of play and the only time my fps drops is when there are multiple npcs around but it never goes below 30 fps. I haven't noticed any bugs. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Win7 64bit, ATI HD5800 series.

While it was downloading I was browsing populair mods on nexus and saw the .dll fix being one of the most used ones, so I downloaded that and installed it right after the game finished downloading. So I haven't tried playing it without that .dll. It did automatically put my settings to medium so I manually cranked them back up to ultra high, though I plan to lower them again tomorrow to see if that makes a difference.
The main problem I'm getting are sudden freezes, when I'm saving or entering a cell or just walking around, whatever, after 10 or 15 minutes or so into the game. I then get the whole "FNV.exe encountered a problem and is trying to find a solution" message and it doesn't do anything.
You might want to try the ATI version of the DLL.
Then again, I know the second patch, at least, introduced some CTDs. Traveling merchants cause quite a few people to crash if they try to buy from them; I wouldn't be surprised if it added in other crashes.

Same problem. Game starts, gets to Bethesda screen, then crashes. I want this fixed or my $54 back:

After the dll fix and ini mod I'm having no problems. I do find I have to make sure I don't run my gtx 285 overclocked and my crashing to desktop has disappeared. This game as well as Fallout 3 hates my graphics card being overclocked. :nono::blink:

I am only having issues with crashing (mostly with traveling merchants), no npc slow downs whatsoever. I am running Win7 Ultimate x64, 4GB DDR2, Core 2 Extreme Q6800, Nvidia GTS 250. With graphics settings on Ultra, I get some stuttering; but with High, it runs perfect. It auto-detects my graphics card as a Geforce 7900 gs, kinda odd.

I didn't have to perform any tweaks, downloaded from Steam and it worked fine.

Windows 7 64 - Nividia GTX 450, i7 920, 9GB ram. Running on ultra settings with no issues except for the random little dots which i just play off in my head as a lil vision effect.

Sorry to hear bout all the problems. good luck to you guys.

I have a Nvidia GTX 285 and Windows 7 64-bit, and I have the npc slow down. (from 60 fps down to 5-10 when pointing at a human NPC)

It's really quite MADDENING!!!! RWAR!

Edit: Putting my dxdiag in this post too cause instead of playing the game i'm refreshing the forums for a fix haha.

I don't know if this will help but it helped me. I have 2 (EVGA) SC ver. GTX 480's in SLI on Win 7 Ult 64 bit (OC'ed to 850/1700/2000) and for nvidia based cards at least if you go into the nvidia control panel and first set the "adjust image settings with preview" to "use advanced 3D image settings" and then go to "manage 3D settings" and in the FONV games settings go down to the "power management mode" and put that to "prefer maximum performance" it should make your card not fluctuate it's core clock so that you don't get that slow down. It worked fr me anyway but the game does still crash on me every once in a while. One time I can play for 6 hours straight and then come back the next time and have it crash on me 5 minutes into the game. Are any of you using that "Game Booster 2" program that shuts down everything you don't need running and maximizes your PC's performance? I am using that as well and it really seems to help. Here is the URL for that... http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html Make sure and get the latest beta 2 version too. I just found that the other day and really happy I did. Good luck...

Welp just put my friends new card in (now my card) downloaded latest drivers and im actually getting even worse frames, ive never seen 15 frames with my ATI 4890 1g, the worse id go down to is 20 - 25 when talking to NPC's. But in 3DMark Vantage it scored a lot better then my old card did . . .

My Spec's

Quad core 3.5 (3.0 overlocked)
4 gigs of ram (forgot what kind but its good ram)
Nvidia x470 (successfuly flashed & overclocked)
Samsung spinpoint hardrive
750w power supply

etc

I am hitting 10 - 15 frames around NPC's, this is a complete none issue in Fallout 3.

As I said before @Obsidian / Bethesda get off your azzes and fix this crap you knew this was going to happen well before release. It's called screwing people over because your main sales came before the game was even launched, this will probably get fixed sooner or later (hopefully) but it's like a "Oh well lets just release the game, most are sales are for console anyway LOL @ PC players" it is exactly how it sounds when you cut through all the BS. You all know what your doing, this is the game industry and with how Alpha Protocol went what exactly were you guy's thinking or hoping for?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Nvidia GTX260
4 gig Mushkin ram
E8400 dual core

Yes, I am having issues too. Fallout 3 ran silky smooth, This New Vegas version is choppy as hell.
Sure hope it gets fixed, the game shows lots of potential.

I have no major problems with the game.

One problem I had I could not get ini setting to stick but got that sorted out.

The game running smooth. I get drop downs to 30 from 60 but nothing too major.

Oh nearly forget I have sound issues most of the time I cannot hear NPC's talking, the radio from the pipboy and the whacking sounds. But I can still hear the game score. The music from the background.

Gerza did you try going into your sound settings and reconfigure to a setting without a center channel? I have an old soundworks speaker set without a center and for some reason the setting automatically picked up a 5.1 with a center. I never realized this until I too had issues with the voice stuff. When I reset it to 2.1 (just the sub) all was right in the world. May not work but give it a shot, its helped a bunch of people.

No problems at all and im using WIN 7 64 and i got a low end graphics card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 Serie. Processor: AMD Turion™ II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M600 (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz and 4 gig ram
Ive seen this on alot of games where if you have a powerful comeputer thats over all specs there is normally problems. But not for everyone. This is just something i have seen.

I tried that and it didn't work for me, however, I had Shark007 codecs installed on my machine. I uninstalled and reinstalled that codec package and all the sounds are playing for me (at least for now). So if you have any kind of codec pack installed, you may want to get the latest version of it and see if that helps. My specs are ; Pentium I7, 8GB RAM, ATI 5770 using HDMI to my home theatre system.

Windows 7 64 bit, 3800 X2, 9800GT, 4GB.

Playing with standard high detail settings, HDR, 4x AA, 8x AF on 1920x1200.

Some stuttering issues initially. Currently using the d3d9.dll fix. Not sure if it's supposed to help my system but doesn't appear to do any harm.

Slowdowns still evident with some effects like the incinerator. Otherwise good.

One CDT in over 20 hours of play, not counting the recurring error on exit that also happened in F3 and Oblivion.

With all do respect, the devs will more than likely have these issues solved within a couple days, if not a week.

Have the devs acknowledged this issue? There's already been two patches out haven't there?

It would be reassuring if the devs could publish a list of known issues players can look through so we can be sure that they are actually aware of problems being reported in these forums and that they are on top of these things. Community communication is a good thing :)

As far as I can see there's nothing acknowledging this common problem that many players are experiencing and with two patches out already, it's pure guesswork which patch will see this problem fixed so that people do not have to rely on a third-party d3d9.dll file that reportedly solves the issue.
