VATS lags, random CTDs (have had four or five in six hours), occasional failure to load the launcher, savegame screwups, occasional physics bugs

only major issue I have is the launcher crashing. If I set the launcher comparability to xp sp3 it all works fine.

(sigh) Windows 7 64-bit edition is the predominent operating system. It is NOT the culprit for any NV issues, happens with Vista 32/64 as well. Most of my issues are resolved now that I am not running anti aliasing

only major issue I have is the launcher crashing. If I set the launcher comparability to xp sp3 it all works fine.

Win7 64 bit, Radeon 4870 and onboard Realtek sound.
Gave a BSOD until I updated both video and sound to the latest drivers. It seems to run ok now.

did you go to the directory and set the compatibility mode to xp sp3 for falloutNVLauncher.exe? If you can't get past it try setting compatibility for both falloutNVLauncher.exe and FalloutNVLauncher.exe. You can set both and then try launching the game from your steam library. Before you do it, just ctrl+alt+Del to ensure that no other instance is running.

I've been able to play the game just fine more or less - there's sometimes bits of freezing/audio skipping (music-wise), but those instances have been rather far and few in between.

I was crashing after hitting play, but disabling steam community in-game fixed it. Made another topic,but dropping this here too. Hope it helps at least some people.

Right Click > Properties > General Tab > Uncheck Enable Steam Community In-Game

I can personally confirm the issue with NPC lag is isolated to at least Windows 7 64-bit. I would imagine Vista 64-bit as well, and maybe the 32-bit editions of those as well.

I have a dual boot of Windows 7 64-bit and Windows XP 32-bit on my computer. I use XP for just such occasions when testing compatibility issues. Both OSs are identical. I have a GTX 295 with the latest 260.89 drivers on both. On Windows 7 64-bit the game has the described NPC lag whenever there is NPCs on screen. The more, the worse it gets. On XP 32-bit the game is 100% smooth at a constant 60 FPS, not affected at all with the amount of NPCs on screen.

Whatever this issue it's definitely only for 64-bit users. Hopefully this helps the devs narrow down the issue. As for other people that dual boot Windows XP 32-bit, you're in luck! Play the game on that and you're good to go! For people who only have Windows 7 64-bit, you're out of luck until Bethesda releases a patch or look into installing a dual boot with Windows XP in the meantime.

I was crashing after hitting play, but disabling steam community in-game fixed it. Made another topic,but dropping this here too. Hope it helps at least some people.

Right Click > Properties > General Tab > Uncheck Enable Steam Community In-Game

Had to do that with Gothic 4, but isn't working for Fallout NV

So far I have :

Uninstalled/reinstalled
Updated sound drivers
Updated graphic drivers (with clean install)
Turned off Steam overlay
Set the fallout exe (both) to xp sp3 comp mode
Turned off the read only for the ini file dir for Fallout NV
Checked the Event Log for any codec issues, faulting module is unknown

Hope they come up with something because this is pretty damn frustrating.

Just installed it on my laptop with ATI 4670, Win 7 64 bit, no framerate issues at all. So Nvidia is definitely a factor it seems.

Don't know about most of the crashes, but I just tried to modified the ini (e.i. the one in documents/my games/fallout NV : it appears after you launch the game the first time) and it said "Cannot save as it is READ ONLY". Now, that might explain why save games crashes or won't save, why tweaks like resolution don't hold. Select your fallout NV folder (in documents/my games) look into propriety and uncheck READ ONLY, apply to all sub-folders... Might help. Couldn't hurt.

Edit: Well, apparently, it goes back automatically to READ ONLY. WTF? This means that any changes to the ini is worthless, as it resolves back to the default.

I was able to run the game on medium settings just fine, though I switched things to lowest just for optimal experience.

Same problem with 9600mgt OC. Runs great with no NPC's around, but as soon as I seen any.........bam........low fps. No, it is not my CPU either, since it is not near maxed. Also changing the graphic settings does not help what so ever.

I can personally confirm the issue with NPC lag is isolated to at least Windows 7 64-bit. I would imagine Vista 64-bit as well, and maybe the 32-bit editions of those as well.

I have a dual boot of Windows 7 64-bit and Windows XP 32-bit on my computer. I use XP for just such occasions when testing compatibility issues. Both OSs are identical. I have a GTX 295 with the latest 260.89 drivers on both. On Windows 7 64-bit the game has the described NPC lag whenever there is NPCs on screen. The more, the worse it gets. On XP 32-bit the game is 100% smooth at a constant 60 FPS, not affected at all with the amount of NPCs on screen.

Whatever this issue it's definitely only for 64-bit users. Hopefully this helps the devs narrow down the issue. As for other people that dual boot Windows XP 32-bit, you're in luck! Play the game on that and you're good to go! For people who only have Windows 7 64-bit, you're out of luck until Bethesda releases a patch or look into installing a dual boot with Windows XP in the meantime.

Well here's another person, I have 32 bit Vista and have the npc lag bug.

EDIT: You're probably unlikely to see more 32 bit people posting in a thread concerning Win 7 64 bit. Check the other threads.

I did have to force AA and AF in CCC and turned off in game AA and AF, Before I did that I was getting lousy frame rates and hiccups.

Now it's buttery smooth..

So I doubt it's Win 7 64...

Oh there is weird glitch in the saving department though...auto save and quick saves are uselsss..and the numbers on the saves are wrong...and continue doesn't work right either.
But I've always manually saved anyway...especially last save of the night..I make 3 or 4 in the same game spot but new and overwrites.
