Everything Omod'd

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:15 pm

I was going to make all my mods into OMODs and wanted to ask you guys/gals your opinion on it first? Is it safe to make everything an omod?

It's safe, but why use omods when there is BAIN that unlike omods also handles compatibility, and now even installers exceptionally well. I rarely find myself using the OBMM anymore. The only omod is Detailed Terrain (minus the textures, I use Wrye's BAIN for these), because it actually edits shader packages.

Did it once and it turned out it's completely useless, there are just too many file conflicts to track between one mod and another. Better if you just pack them as .7z and learn to use wrye bash. Nowadays you don't need OBMM anymore.

I've packed them as a .7z archive too after patching them with OBMM. Then I got rid of OBMM forever. Not that I'm blaming OBMM here, it was my first mod manager and it saved me from a few headaches but wrye bash is so much better.

So true. You will actually save yourself a ton of time in the long run also.
The bashed Patch is almost nearly required for any modded game for maximum compatibility.
Wrye bash also has BAIN, so it is a lot easier to stick with one mod manager.
And it has a ton of other features that you will learn to use with time that are necessary for fixing some other stuff also.
Take your time, and learn Bash, you will thank yourself for doing so, one day.

You really want to start http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35230 and have a look at both "Basics and Installers Intro" and "Installers Advanced".

It is wryebash.html in the wrye bash DL.
Take it slow, as it is a bit lengthy.
If you don't already have wrye bash up and running you will need to install wrye python, beforehand.
Everything is in the readme.
Good luck. :)

The Question mark, icon in the statusbar will open the readme.
Also alt3rnity has written a decent guide for beginners.
