Everything was working fine, now it isn't.

i7 4790k

16 gb ram

gtx 980ti hof edition

SSD

windows 7

bought through Steam

48 hours played

nvidia driver 359

Right. I've been playing since launch day with zero issues. Not one. No crashes, no nvidia driver failures, nothing. Now, suddenly, it's crashing randomly. Mostly "Fallout 4 has stopped working" crashes, but I did have a few nvidia driver failures before I updated to 359. The game still crashes. I've tried borderless window, nothing. Absolutely nothing has changed in my system, yet something obviously has changed in the way the game runs. Initially I had used the Fallout 4 Tweak Tool from Nexus Mods to increase my FOV, but like I stated, I've been playing fine with no issues until today. What happened? Was there a shadow update from Steam? I just don't understand.

Can you revert your computer to an earlier state, after you back-up your saves? (for any case)

Are your crashes related to any in game quest? Or just crashing? Because a lot of us are having issue with the game crashing as you reach a certain area in the game. And that area happens to be related to a few major quests.

Same thing happened to me. Everything was working fine until I got to the point in the west part of the map where two bridges cross and all of a sudden the FPS started dropping. Eventually the game just began to crash. When I went back to several of my olders saves, the same random crash kept happening. What ever "it" was, it effected the saves because I even did a fresh reinstall of the game.

Sounds like you've come to a point where some of the content you've unlocked is generating errors or corrupting something.

I'd reinstall the whole game if i were you.

But i'm not garantueeing this is the solution, but this is what comes to mind reading this.

In short: Data corruption, causing error loop.

under the crash report, it lists a BEX64 as the crash problem. after googling, it linked me to Beth's own website and suggested a VC redist install. did that, still crashing. uninstalled previous versions of the package [2005, 2010, etc], still crashing. what's even more frustrating is this is all happening TODAY. I've never had a hint of an issue before now.

It sounds like a save game bloat problem that effects all bethesda games of the gamebryo engine. After time (ie; over 100+ hours of playtime) the stability of the game degrades to the point where it can no longer function. TES4Edit/FO3Edit was used to make a cleaner save and would fix these problems back in the day so you may want to see if there is a revision ready for Fallout 4 yet. Otherwise you must start a new game.

Youused the tool for ini tweak,on the tools will makes the ini files as read only and this can cause crashes.

Make sure that your files are not checked mark as Read only on the ini file properties.

Try copying your save file folder to another directory and see if it hangs. If it says there was an error with one of the save files, click skip then go and delete that particular save file. After deleting the save file that was throwing the error, my game no longer freezes at the "Please Stand By" screen on start-up.

Good to see that little Creation Engine hangover still lumbers on.
