Everything you see characters doing in the world, you can do

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:47 am

WARNING. IT'S COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THESE MAY NOT BE THE WORDS OF TODD HOWARD HIMSELF.

Apparently we will be able to http://cdnstatic.gamesas.com/akqacms/files/tes/screenshots/Tavern01_wLegal.jpg, http://dl.maximumpc.com/galleries/Skyrim/Skryim-Trailer-anolysis-12-Lute-Kill.jpg and http://cache.g4tv.com/images/ImageDb3/267656_S/elder-scrolls-5.jpg.

This is all according to a recent preview:
Continuing on our way we enter Riverwood, a logging town perched next to a ragging river that is one of the first you encounter in the game. Moving into town we overhear a conversation between two townsfolk, over which we can hear a smith pounding an anvil with a hammer. Thanks to the game’s new radiant AI system, everything you see characters doing in the world, you can do as well. So if we want to repair items, we would be able to use the smith’s workbench to do so. Same for the man chopping wood nearby. Not sure about the man using a steel hook to toss giant logs onto a sawing board.

I also think this means we might be able to commandeer a carriage/wagon a la RDR (if they are in real-time)

If anyone has any other screenshots that i forgot with NPC actions that we will be able to do, or if i missed something in the trailer, or the interviews/coverage, please post it here.

I know there's a possibility the coverage wasn't entirely truthful, but it seems like it to me.

Lets not read too much into the article's descriptions. When this statement was made, I personally was under the impression it was made specifically in terms of jobs (logging/blacksmithing/etc). I think you may be taking what was said in the article a little too literally.

Also, the only mount I would expect to be able to control (if we are lucky) is a horse. Vehicles really have just never been an element of BGS games, and it's something they never really delve into much. It wouldn't make any sense anyways in terms of fast travel (as carriages seem to be similar to silt striders in Morrowind).

Yeah and i don't really know what he's talking about there... is this in a screenshot or in the trailer?

Not keen on the screenshots anyway. No way to prove that's a pet dog from a still image, it could just be a local stray following the guard.

Or to go over-the-top in the other direction...so we can follow guards and wag our tails? ;)

This is one of those things you can't really believe until you see it in the final build, cause they promised all kinda of little cool things like this in Oblivion, and most got taken out or dulled down.

Yeah, I realize this is a possiblity (note my poll options), and the carriage thing might have been overzealous, but I felt like he said what he meant, and he meant what he said.

I don't think we've seen any fishing NPCs... I guess lets just hope there are/we can, like you're already doing.

Can't be true, it's just a context exageration. I can bet the shopkeepers will do all sorts of shop related things that we can't do, same with guards, sailors, and whatever occupations they may add for flavour.

You can stand still or patrol an area, waiting for Enemy NPC's to come to you, all you want.

I'm sure you're taking it a little more literally than it was meant, OP, but I think a lot of it would be cool.

And see our characters eat food! Yes! I can finally see my character feast on a human heart!

I doubt we'll be able to fish; however, I would be THRILLED if we could. Also: Lovin' the turtles. :P

QFT. This, I believe, is the proper interpretation-- and it's still rather incredible.

Yeah, why do that work when you can hire some argonians and pay them next to nothing! It'll be like the good ol' days in Morrowind.
