Everytime I try to save the game crashes

It started happening last night.
Present order is not the same as last night. I added a few things, deleted others, moved Duke's stuff down to group with archery mod which defaults after bashed patch, etc.

100% every time...completely unplayable. Off to do something else while waiting for help...

Do you have any slightly earlier saves you can load and see if the issue goes away? And if it goes away, what happens once you advance the okay save to the point where your bad save didn't save?

Err... simplest way to troubleshoot is that one of the culprits is most likely the mods you added since yesterday.

Also, why change mod load orders? If it worked earlier, that should be fine unless there is a particular reason to move the mods to allow one to win over another.

Go backtrack the saves if needed, as something may have gone awry in one of your saves, and everything subsequent to that. But first, there is something wrong with the mods you added since yesterday - troubleshoot there or remove them to figure out.

1. Have been doing that, but I didn't add much before, only after.

2. I was only referring to the Duke mods as a side comment for testing purposes (Psymon made me do it by talking about it :P )

3. I went all the way back to the emperor before scripted rats, and it saved, but my current character spot(s) can't be saved. I have many and it would just take too long to see at what point it can be saved
going backwards.


edit...looks like I got lucky with a random near-current save. Now to go back and get those mods I uninstalled and try one by one.

Could be a corrupt spawn that causes the crashes.
Also, try PCB from the console before saving. If the game crashes when it tries to purge cell buffers it's almost certainly a corrupt spawn, in which case you need to load an earlier save. Been there, done that, cursed, hissed and pulled my whiskers in frustration.

damnit it is happening again.
I went inside a building, used PCB (I have Quarn's Purge Cell Buffers mod loaded too, set at 3 in console), and still crashing on saves. I can't get any skill ups saved.
I even tried an earlier save.

It crashes when you level up? If so:

Open the oblivion.ini located in My Games\Oblivion

Find the setting

STrackLevelUpPath=

Make sure there is NOTHING after the =.

and:

bTrackLevelUps=0

Make sure it is indeed set to zero.

See if that fixes it.

Well see the thing is your issue is actually addressable - you know when the issue happens so you can test it repeatedly.

Two ways to go about it:
1. Return to earlier save and play through with alternate saves - if the issue persists then you can pretty much bet is a recently added mod.
2. Disable esp chunks at a time till the issue stops then once it does narrow in on which esp it is.

I know you got issues with me, but I've not tried to steer you wrong. Plenty here can see you are struggling with mods and we have all been through it again and again. I probably have more than most. The general advice is to only add one mod at a time and test it fully before moving on. Also to play the area of the game that the mod addresses so that you know what gets changed.

Don't discount hardware issues or driver issues. make sure your hardware is working and that drivers and DirectX are up to date.

Further I would advise against adding too many mods that are affecting the same area. You have Adrenaline Fueled Combat, Deadly Reflex, and Duke Patrick Combat mods all installed - that is a recipe for disaster. Three overhauls for one area of the game. I'm sure I could find more issues, but haven't the time and really knowing I pointed this out before does not make me want to search it out.

If you demonstrate that you are testing mods and looking at the focus of a mod then I'm certain that others would actually go out of their way to assist you.

The function is somewhat buggy, and if the file path does not exist..... the game chokes and dies. I think it was originally intended as a developers tool, and some folks have the setting enabled, and an invalid path. It doesn't hit everyone, even some of those that actually have it turned on. Not entirely sure what that is all about.

are the defaults which I have never seen before it was pointed out to me.

Like I said, this isn't about leveling up, but crashes on trying to save. I disabled Streamline since it kept trying to save despite me setting the Streamsave to 0, only wanting reminder messages to come up which never did.

I have done tests where I just stay in Chorrol, outside after loading in, come back maybe couple hours later, save>crashes.

I just did this with a macro running to train h2h with the training mod I have with the target board in the back of the fighter's guild. I did pcb before saving. I saved successfully it said, then hit ESC and it crashed. I got lucky that time saving my skill ups.

Well I don't see Kuertee Clean up in there - I suspected that mod, but of course could be wrong.

Did you play through with an older save? Could have been a corrupted save. Speaking of which have you read the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Technical_Support. The advice is to never reload in the same cell your character died it. If that can't be helped then I either exit the game and reload in the same cell or go to an earlier save and play through.

Also the prevailing wisdom is don't use auto and quick saves.

It also could have been area related - such as a script unable to complete or something in a certain area but not in other areas. So things like this I usually try and have a few isolated cells to test in plus the testing hall.

Cant help with your overall problem here but the above quoted snip sounds like you did not re-initialise streamline after editing the ini, to do that press ctrl + home keys while playing the game, streamline options pop-up, choose the "Special Actions" button, and then the Re-Initialize option.

Your problem I have experienced with Duke Patricks mods before, in my instance it related to not doing one of the necessary clean save routines (a couple of his mods require this), but was fortunate to have realised it and had a save not too far back to go to once I had first rectified where I went wrong. The save had to be before the date I missed that step. I have a very different load order to yours though so cannot be certain my experience relates.
