Evidence of Pre-War Protagonist and Tutorial

Looking again at that scene of the guarded shaft entrance, I may have got a distorted image as the last few times I've successfully paused it in the right millisecond I think he is wearing a blue uniform which would indeed make him vault security.....its really hard to get a clear view.

But it would be like adopting a centuries-old grumpy old man rotting away in a kid's body. I think he could probably fend for himself.

Have you tried watching the high-res downloadable version? I can't remember the link, but that's what I've been using, and you can see a ton of detail that is not very clear when watching it online.

If the vault was in Waterton and the nuke went off in Brighton, it would have taken at least 15 seconds for the blast wave to hit the vault. How long did it actually take?

Depends on the time-scale used by the game now doesn't it?

You don't actually know at all that they were within the red zone, or within the lethal radius (note the poles). The math used to determine that is INHERENTLY FAULTY. The only way to make an accurate determination would be to know the exact scale used in the game, it's the only way to accurately determine distance from the blast zone. We already know its possible to survive a nuclear blast, while already severely injured at a distance of about 1.85 miles from the impact zone, and thats WITH AN AIRBURST. Is it an airburst? Is it a ground detonation? At what height was the burst? How far away were they from the point of detonation? I have none of these answers, and neither do you, you make the false assumption that they were indeed within the red zone. We have no way to verify that because we don't know the scale. If the scale was 1:1 then the math works and you are right, if it is literally anything else the calculation is worthless without knowing it. If 3 and NV and pretty much every other open world game is any indication than the scale is not 1:1.

While I am not lying, merely pointing out the figures used did not tell the story when it came to numbers. You on the other hand are being intellectually dishonest about what we know about their proximity to ground zero from the trailer.

Yeah I've downloaded it to try to get a better view and i'm still unclear what hes got on his head, but he is wearing a blue uniform...it could be the the helmet with the visor raised, making me think it was a cap on my earlier viewings.

At the speed of sound, this would actually be just under 10 seconds, but this is besides the point. Unless we see the entire process in a single take, we can not be certain of the exact timeframe or even the exact distance. The duration in the trailer is around 3.5 seconds. But there is a cut between the initial flash and the shot where we see the mushroom cloud. Also, the vault appears to be in a highly elevated position relative to the explosion. But again, we must consider the unknown variables in this situation against the increasing weight of evidence throughout this thread. We may never be able to verify all of the finer details concerning the explosion. But looking at the evidence available to us, we can see that my initial claims as to the identity of the protagonist as well as his survival from pre-war into post-war are now very close to being proven as fact.

An enhanced shot of this would be really useful. But I agree that it looks like a raised visor, and the uniform of the guard closest to the vault gates is definitely blue.

There in lies the problem, the game uses more than one timescale. It uses one to represent the passage of time in game, and it uses one for presentation purposes.

Events in Fallout 3 and Fallout NV have always been presented in real time (a 1:1 time ratio with our world) while the rest of the world is in game time. But for the sake of argument, lets say the events in the trailer are presented in game time. Game time in Fallout 3 is about 30:1 where in Fallout NV it is closer to 12:1. Using game time, that blast wave took way too long to reach the people at Vault 111. Using your distance estimate, it would have taken less than 2 seconds for it to arrive. Additionally, if these events are being presented in game time, the actors are moving at best 12 times too slow, they should be just blurs.

So operating on the assumption that the Vault 111 scene is not in real time and as demonstrated it cannot be in game time, there is only ONE other time scale it can be in. Movie Script Time. And if it is in Movie Script Time, that leads us to what I have been saying for quite some time now. IT IS JUST A DAMNED TRAILER AND WE ARE READING TOO MUCH INTO IT!

Ehh, I dont think we are reading too much into it assuming that the guy prominently featured is likely the PC, and that the guy who looks EXACTLY like him in the pre-war scenes is either him, or related to him.

Bethesda trailers don't focus on human characters besides the player character, not that others dont get shown.

I am not being any more intellectually dishonest than anyone else. I am using what we know, combined with information that has no real relevancy to make a point. The method I have chosen to do this is to play a Devil's Advocate, of sorts.

Based on the information we have, my assertion that the family depicted out side of the vault died, is just as valid as the assertion that they survived.

If gkk7z is correct we will find out that they did survive, eventually. At the very latest we will find out when the game releases (it would be kind of difficult to hide it after that).

But if the protagonist is not a member or descendant of that family, then their survival becomes moot and we may never find out their fate.

I actually agree. I highly doubt any of it really matters, I just think the assertion that they were in the guaranteed death zone to be completely off base with how it's presented. It's stated as fact when there are a multitude of reasons that it likely is wrong. There's a multitude of reasons they could have died as well, but to assert either as fact is asinine. I only posted the stats I did because it was asserted how deadly a nuclear warhead is, while deadly they are not nearly the city killers Americans and Russians like to pretend. If anything the damage they do environmentally is exponentially worse than the actual explosion, especially for ground burst detonations. In 05 there was a 60th anniversary exhibit touring North America about Hiroshima and Nagasaki that I had to attend with my history class, all of the presenters pointed out that the most horrific part of nuclear weaponry was not the detonation that killed a small fraction of people, it was the burns and rad poisoning that led people to die over a much longer period. Most nuclear tech is super over rated, not that it isn't deadly but it doesn't live up to the mythology.

Oh for crying out loud. We are comparing one Mr. Default White Guy to another Mr. Default White Guy and claiming a relationship? I am not saying there isn't a relationship, but if there is, the character creation screen is going to be very simple to navigate.

Of course assuming they are in the red zone is off base, but ultimately it doesn't matter if they are or not. If BGS wants them to survive, they will.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know that the person in the Fallout 3 reveal trailer is the Lone Wanderer? Even if LW is branded into that individual's forehead it would be difficult to tell.

{Edit}

And as has been pointed out before, the most prominent actor in the whole video is the dog.

We are actually shown quite a number of different character models in the trailer with noticeable variations in facial details, skin tones, hairstyles and other aspects. We are also shown both male and female characters, and at least one child. Most of the people shown also appear to have fairly unique clothing, especially in the shot outside of the vault gates. All of this adds up to the fact that we are dealing with a relatively large number of different people. Would it not be an incredibly odd coincidence if the only person shown in the trailer who has an exact double just happened to be our protagonist?

Becuase that is how literally all of Bethesda games trailers are, they use defualt male preset 1 as thier trailer MC.

The Nerevarine in Morrowind trailers was Dunmer male preset 1

The Champion of Cyrodiil in Oblivion trailers was Imperial male preset 1

The Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3 trailers was white male preset 1

The Courier in New Vegas trailers was white male preset 1...... the same one as the LW.

The Dragonborn in all Skyrim trailers was Nord, male, face preset 1

Indeed. I really hope that isn't the route they go, I mean I can see how it could be cool but damn. I guess I'd prefer it to being an Android though, making Androids the first PC that is non-human would svck; I'd rather be a ghoul, nightkin, first gen super, and that's without considering the Android from a vault possibility. I almost wish they would take a page from DA:O and give us 3-4 backstories to choose from, like: BOS outcast, Pre-War Ghoul, Vault Dweller, S/M Defector, Enclave Survivor or Talon Company Merc.

Based on a huge amount of cross-referenced information that fits together in a highly cohesive manner, and backed up with a number of external sources that have also been thoroughly researched. I would pretty much say that yes, that is evidence.

Ok, if we get the ability to choose our avatar's gender, and if the protagonist shown in the trailer is the father. Then if we choose a female avatar, it would stand to reason that the protagonist would be the mother. On the other hand we do not know the gender of the baby, so a male or female protagonist that is the baby would work.

So now we know the protagonist is white. The only way we can allow for a hispanic, asian or black protagonist is to have a character creation screen appear before any of the pre-war scenes that are used for the tutorial, and basically have a separate tutorial for each with appropraite Default White Guy, Default White Gal and Default White Baby being replace by the appropriate Default models. Of course, there doesn't seem to be any opinions on the subject so it would probably be ok to run everyone through the tutorial as Mr. Default White Guy.

As a descendent of Mr. and Mrs. Default White Couple, the apparent race could be almost anything for the protagonist after a couple of generations. But assuming the protagonist could be considered white, there is no guarantee that he/she would look anything like either of the parents depicted outside the vault.

I wasn't asking what preset they were using for the Fallout 3 reveal trailer. I was asking how do you know that the single human depicted in the Fallout 3 trailer was the Lone Wanderer.

If is fairly obvious that the guy stuffed into the Vault 111 suit is suppose to be the protagonist, but for all we know that human in the Fallout 3 trailer was Mr. Generic Brotherhood of Steel Paladin. Considering that BGS was in the process of laying claim to the IP, that would make more sense than the person in the power suit being the protagonist.
