I think that what many of us are suggesting is that in, the trailer, we see the same person in both pre-war and post war as an indication that whoever we create as our protagonist will also feature in both of these eras.

So you've decided to stop posting on this thread because I believe one set of evidence over another. Your choice, but a little odd.
The whole point of creating a thread such as this is to invoke discussion. You can clearly see that there are several who agree, many more who disagree, and a few who are not so sure. The arguments against have actually given me the opportunity to dig a little deeper, and I have even backed up my claim with further evidence, as have several others throughout the post. But in the end does it really matter if we all have different opinions? The truth is, it doesn't.
I still think you need to lay off the trailer.
Seriously, man, it's concerning. I'm starting to imagine you have printed out screen shots from the trailer connected with red string.
For crying out loud people, can we just wait until we get more info on Sunday before arguing over this
I chuckled sensibly.
I think the enhanced picture did what you have failed to do, prove an actual link....I would add that to your OP (and thank the one who provided it) because it is more convincing than just watching the trailer and reading someone else claim that the faces are similar.
Except for that fact that I didn't, as I have said all along the only centuries old survivors of nuclear blasts have been ghouls, anybody who has survived a nuclear blast in the Fallout World has become a ghoul.
There is of course lore that some ghouls have also been created by long term exposure to radiation, the lore hints at a link between this and FEV which is linked to all the mutations in the Fallout world, that doesn't contradict my main point in any way.
Nukes = ghouls.
3. Many people have claimed that nobody standing above the vault could have survived this blast, yet in August 1945, a 29 year-old man managed to survive both atomic blasts in Japan. In each case, he was less than two miles from the blast. Although he sustained injuries from the first blast, he suffered no injuries from the second. Following the detonation in Nagasaki, he spent a week in a shelter with his wife and baby son (note the similarity to the family waiting above the vault). He died in 2010 at the age of 93. This case has been well documented and can very easily be verified.
Well yes, one man survived the blasts in Japan... and 150,000-250,000 people didn't
Is it possible the trailer family survived? Yes. But highly unlikely.
Also in the Fallout world that man would have become a ghoul.
Or dropped dead of the blastwave or radiation poisoning
Oh I agree, it seems that the protagonist will be either the pre-war mother or father, or perhaps a descendant of them. I was just addressing the comment above mine regarding the concerns about having a set protagonist. There has been a lot of baseless wailing about that possibility since the trailer came out.
I, for one, cannot wait until Sunday. It's killing me!
I think I read somewhere we're getting a gameplay demo, but can't recall where... and of course, fingers crossed for a release date.
Yeah, the unconfirmed rumour is a 20 to 30 minute demo similar to when Todd played through some of FO3 at E3 in 2008. I'm also hoping that they'll announce a Fall 2015 release date!
Will consider posting a link, with permission of course - just have to sort out a couple of real world duties!
And also, sorry for the slight over-reaction. Perhaps it's just that the lore itself seems a little contradictory with regards to this topic.
Oh the lore is a little contradictory at times, not least due to the Fallout Bible.....I tend to stick to the games for the lore, which have been mostly consistent.
A link to an enhanced picture is worth a thousand words in a case like this, for instance due to the pic now we can all obviously see that the guy in the trailer appears pre-war and post war. I'd suggest doing something similar with the family on the Shaft entrance, if this is the same, then its not a question of if they survived (or even if its the same people on the lift) but how.
As I mentioned earlier, could the pressurised door be an indication of a airlock, maybe of a decomination chamber which would allow the vault door to open without contaminating the entire vault.....I was also wondering about the T-45d Power Armour that we see the guards using, would that allow for the rescue of survivors?
You're forgetting that the protagonist has something all those poor, unfortunate, real people didn't have - plot armor.
It's possible, I just don't see it happening. I'll wait for more info before deciding.
That is distressingly true, if it is the MC than he could take a nuke to the face without flinching.
I'm calling it now. We all complained about how the protagonist in FO3 killed themselves with radiation when they had plenty of radiation immune companions, and now Bethesda is going to over-compensate for FO4 and have the protagonist take a nuke to the face and wake up better.
Well they have to top the last MC, who rose from the dead!
I wouldn't be surprised if the protagonist is like Harkness, an advanced android and not know it
Wait, what??? Bethesda? Contradict their own lore? Come on now, we all know that never happens......
I hope not since its such an obvious plot twist and I doubt it would come as a surprise to anyone who had played Fallout 3.
I was thinking about NV and I doubt I would have been supportive of someone telling me NV started with the MC being dug up from a shallow grave, after being shot in the head. I'd be pointing out how unlikely that you could even survive that and still be functional and somebody else would be posting links to a guy who did, etc, etc.....
That's true. We're all here debating whether or not someone can survive being exposed to a nuclear blast from however many miles away, be it from radiation or the blast wave, and how plausible that is -
- and New Vegas started with us being shot point-blank in the head and buried alive, and then a country doctor just magicked us back together.
I'm thinking watching a nuclear explosion from a distance and then being treated for radiation burns is a lot more plausible.
It does put it into perspective doesn't it.......and while opening a vault during the war is unheard off so far in Fallout Lore, so was people surviving hundreds of years in stasis pods, so was BOS turning away from what the Brotherhood stands for, so was somebody travelling to the US from Europe....I'm sure there are more examples of where Bethesda has added to and changed the Lore.
Actually, there are a fair few folks that have been shot in the head, either by someone else, or, by their own hand..... that have survived, not much the worse for wear. (just a rather unique scar.....) Even by large caliber weapons. Given my choice, think I would rather be shot in the head, than exposed at close range to a nuclear blast.....
