Evil dragons being cliché

Post » Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:02 am

For some reason I always think of the dragon from Dragonheart. I need to watch that movie again, it has been years. Not only was it awesome, it was good.

The ending of that movie broke my heart a kid. I remember seeing in theaters and balling at the end. That is the dragon i picture when i think of them too. :P

Im really hoping bethesda gets the dragons right. They could be the most awsome or awful thing about the game. Are the dragons inherently evil? Or are they causing such destruction for other reasons that mortals do not understand?

Couldn't be any more cliche than evil humans.

I actually prefer the vil dragons in a videogame because honestly. In an RPG killing dragons is COOL. Its like a necessity! Dragons are the symbol of power, an unstoppable force of wrath that can destroy villages with its flame or tears people open with claws and in medieval stories dragon slaying is like a thing I'm just glad I can finally do it in an elder scroll game

Lol very true. I don't think it's cliche because of the whole "dragon God eating the world" thing seems pretty original to me (admittedly, I don't read much fantasy, so maybe it's not).
My first ever dragon story was "The Last Dragon", where the ritual of rescuing princesses before you could marry one had led to the near extinction of dragons (they would just tie her up to a rock outside the dragons' cave, and the prince would slaughter the dragon, whether he wanted the princess for dinner or not), so I don't automatically think of dragons as evil anyway.

Cliches or no cliches, good or evil. if the dragon is gonna eat me, its gonna die a painful death. just like everything else in skyrim. plain and simple.

I like dragons.

(also no offense to any of the D&D AD&D fans... they were all guides and not absolute rule books people as was said but not quoted by Gary Gygax.)

Do you not know the nature of time? Time starts, continues, ends, and starts all over again. What we are witnessing is the end. Do not mistaken these majestic beasts as mere lizards with wings, they are the minions of time itself known as Alduin to the men of the north, Akatosh to the men who have been emperors of Tamriel, and Auriel to the secretive and haughty mer to the west.

My response: having "all dragons are automatically evil" or "all dragons are automatically good" is cliche. I'd rather have chaotic neutral dragons. Kinda like daedric princes, but less powerful: they have their own agendas, into which we sometimes fit in the hero role or the villain role, but in any case they should have some depth!
