EWHy do people hate all the Mer so much?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 2:27 am

One, the OP was asking why players hate the elves. Two, Alessia isn't mean to you. Three, Valen doesn't hate Dunmers, you can look up his dialogue if you want. He was being nasty to you if you were a dunmer, like everyone else, but his dunmer taunts weren't race-based like the others. Anyways, Valen wasn't as annoying as the dudes in Balmora and other places yelling, "N'wah! Fetcher! Outlander!' Really, those guys hurt my feelings.

I am the original poster. Alessia hates anything that isn't a Nine Divine worshiping chapel goer and Valen Dreth taunts anyone, and not all Dunmer are like that.

No, but she inspires others to do what they can, whenever you can simply because of your race. And that's because the Imperials aren't as honest as the Dunmer. Can anyone here think of a time a Dunmer has lied?

Three, Valen doesn't hate Dunmers, you can look up his dialogue if you want. He was being nasty to you if you were a dunmer, like everyone else, but his dunmer taunts weren't race-based like the others

I've never seen Alessia Ottus insult Imperials. She does insult some classes, but most of the lower class are not Imperials, and neither are most Arena fighters.

Anyways, Valen wasn't as annoying as the dudes in Balmora and other places yelling, "N'wah! Fetcher! Outlander!' Really, those guys hurt my feelings.

He is about as annoying, then, as the people in Oblivion who shout:

'You'll make a nice pair of boots, lizard'

And about ten other racist insults I can think of.

And really, between the Dunmer nobility and the Dunmer Temple clergy, they've got like a million of her.

They usually keep their opinions quiet, or only tell them to the player character. I've never seen anything published in Morrowind by the nobility or the Temple that is obviously racist.

And what you don't have is torture chambers and other things established by Alessia Caro, and the residents of Leyawiin who demand the eviction of any non-Imperials.

also, the place is ruled by imperials, which means that the men are supposidly "dominant" over the mer

Every province has a group of people, usually in a large area, such as the Alik'r Desert, who do not subscribe to Imperial domination, and many provinces were never conquered by force. And without the Armistice, Tiber Septim (who was a Nord) wouldn't have been able to conquer most of Tamriel.

EDIT: I know I've got something wrong there, but it's not that significant.

Again, she insults anyone who doesn't visit the chapel, including Imperials.

They don't publish it, but they do say it. Well, except for insulting the player's race, but they're not that dense.

And what you don't have is torture chambers and other things established by Alessia Caro, and the residents of Leyawiin who demand the eviction of any non-Imperials.

They got the Ministry of Truth. And many Dunmer (Ashlanders, Sixth House Cultists, and Camonna Tong in particular) who openly want all outlanders and non-Dunmer kicked out of the entire nation.

The Tribunal Temple insult those who don't worship the Tribunal - but they don't publish it.

They don't publish it, but they do say it

Exactly ;)

They got the Ministry of Truth. And many Dunmer (Ashlanders, Sixth House Cultists, and Camonna Tong in particular) who openly want all outlanders and non-Dunmer kicked out of the entire nation.

Two of those groups are illegal, and the Ashlanders are a lot less of a threat to non-Dunmer than the Countess of Leyawiin is to non-Imperials. And the Ministry of Truth is essentially just another prison; it's only people who commit crimes or speak out against the Tribunal that go there. That has nothing to do with not being allowed to follow your own religion.

I despise most of the Human races. At least the other races have, you know, an interesting background. The one good thing the Redguards had destroys everything, and is no longer allowed to be taught and was lost to time.

Y'know what? The next game should start out with a duel between Alessia Ottus and Valen Dreth because they both hate eachother's guts and want to see who's the better race. But in the middle of the duel, Fargoth bravely steps in between them saying, "People, people! Can't we all just get along? What will this mindless violence solve?" Valen then says, "You know, Alessia, he's right!" Alessia agrees, saying, "We shouldn't be fighting each other! We need eachother, we need to work together to rid the world of annoying Bosmer like Fargoth here!" And so, Valen Dreth and Alessia Ottus slay Fargoth on the spot, and the two stop being such racists. The other imperials and dunmer and all follow in their example, and all racism is gone from Tamriel as all people, men, mer, and beastfolk are united by hatred of the annoying bosmer. Chancellor Ocato decrees that pointing out the hypocrisy in all this is punishable by death, and so the whole Empire celebrates. Except, of course, Gaenor, who has fled to Skyrim to hide under the noses of the nords with the most foully annoying of the bosmer nation. And in secret, they plan a master plan, to rule over all Tamriel, establishing their nightmarish vision of a land where whiny little people ask everyone who gets off a boat if they've seen their ring, a world not safe from cheapskates and freeloaders who try to squeeze the innocent out of millions of septims, a world of evil. But before they can start their war, a prisoner, in jail for unknown reasons, is set free to stop the menace. And so begins The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the story of Gaenor's terrible vengeance! *cue theme music*

The Altmer are arrogant and snobish;
The Dunmer are jerks;
The Bosmer are insane and annoying;
The Ayleids were psychotic sadists...

So you see, there are some reasons for disliking them.

THe Dunmer are hated because of there racial views in the land of Morrowind. They hate all other races, so it gives them a bad name.

Bosmer are hated because they think there better then everyone else at sneaking and climbing

Altmer are hated because they consider there magika significantly better to the other races

Also Bosmer have some of the most [censored] lore ever. They have moving cities, cannibalism (but not eating any plants), the best archers, and "The Wild Hunt". Add an ongoing war with a people as crazy and as excellent with guerilla/unconventional tactics as them, and you got one of the best backgrounds for the races.

Ahh. I adore the Altmer. I would probably like them less in person. . . bad attitudes. But I love playing as them,. . . of course, this could be because, as of yet, its as close as I can get to playing what I really want to RP as. . . Valkynaz or male Aureal. I suppose its all in where your interests lie. And to be fair, the people who post here are, by and large, serious Elder Scrolls players, and being at most a few thousand strong, if that, only represent a very small percentage of the million plus gamers in the series. So it may be that most people don't hate the Elves/Mer. . . just alot of the people who post here.

Why are we trying to be politically correct and say "well, I don't hate this fictional fantasy race" or "I take exception to discriminating between Tamrielic bloodlines" and similar nonsense? Please, people, this is by no means SERIOUS BUSINESS.

And, as to why "everyone" hates the elves, it's really very simple. The elves (at least, those that remember the Old Ways) view the creation of Mundus -- for all intents and purposes if you lived in Tamriel, existence in its current form -- as a theological aberration, a mistake/product of Lorkhan's trickery that must be reversed at all cost if they are to achieve the godhood that they lost in the process. A godhood, by the way, that they don't particularly believe you share: yes, you, a human, a mongrel, molded from Shor's [censored] and infused by the breath of his burp atop Tamriel's highest peak. Or, you know, not. It gets complicated.

SO anyway, elves are mean. Deal with it.

Well it is simple really:

I hate Dunmer because they think way to much of themselves and annoy the hell out of me.

I hate Bosmer because they are just so unbearable.

I do not hate Altmer because for some reason I find them bearable. Perhaps it is because they have far more reason to think better of themselves than the Dunmer.

But nonetheless I like the Humans and beast races more.

I don't base it off of any trumped up rp religious reason I just base it off of how many douchebags are in that race in-game.

I've always been a CHIMer at heart. Only the elves could have made something as sublime as ALMSIVI.

Equal kudos for Talos for trying, and succeeding. He did a good job, even when it all got a bit messy.

I hate them because they are elves, a thing of generic fantasy, thus, they are proof of the Elder Scrolls' roots in such. Plus, the elves of the Elder Scrolls tend to be particularly disagreeable. Bosmer are annoying, ugly, and disgusting, Altmer are annoying and arrogant, and Dunmer are annoying and xenomorphic, hating anyone that doesn't have dark skin and red eyes, and some who do, plus they keep slaves, and yet don't even have the dignity to be outright evil like dark elves and other settings, and are characters that you can't just kill on sight.
Added to that, elves are extremely boring yet still get so much attention.

That's why I dislike them, anyway. And I don't feel bad about hating an entire race because they don't exist.

The Dunmer are not jerks! 188.gif Have you even met a Dunmer in Daggerfall? They are most certainly not jerks. Only the Morrowind ones could be remotely classified as jerks even though their xenophobic.

And since Morrowind is their homeland, where they still hold their traditional culture, and thus, the best representation of what Dunmer are like at heart. The Dunmer anywhere else, those from Morrowind would say, are "not true Dunmer", I'd be somewhat happier associating with these Dunmer who are "not true", myself.

SO anyway, elves are mean. Deal with it.

Which is why they should all die. If they hate the current existence so much, they should be removed from it.

You say that, but comparatively, the Dunmer are the most civilized race in the game, owing to the (lack of) lore in Oblivion, and other games. TES would not be TES if the Dunmer weren't in it.

Why do some people keep glancing over the fact that dunmer used to have slaves. Some still do actually. And the reason they don't kick the outlanders out of Morrowind is because luck would just so have it that they are part of the Empire, which would not be able to ignore that if it happened.

If the Ayleids were psychotic sadists who enslaved humans, what does that make the humans who made the person who merely suggested exterminating them one of the sacred symbols of their faith?

I wouldn't know. All I know is dunmer were practitioners of slavery more recently, even in Cyrodiil. (see Drad's Estate)
