Excellent news in trailer...

Todd mentions that Dragons dont attack from the start of the game..

well this is great news for those who wanted to roleplay a non dragon slayer..

So yeah, dragons only start appearing once triggered, at some point in the main quest.

Well thats good, I was hoping dragons wouldnt overwhelm my starting character, would be pretty tough to fight one early on considering we wont have many great weapons to choose from.

Did he actually say it has to be triggered?
That could've been taken out of context.
You never know, he might have meant since each TES game has a sort-of tutorial in the begining. (Imperial sewers)
Then he's correct, at the very begining you would not fight a dragon. Or maybe there's a level requirement for dragons to start showing up.

I don't believe he ever said anything about a trigger. He said something about them being around throughout the game, not as much right at the beginning as later though. The way I interpret it is dragons are less common in lower leveled lists, but become more common as the character gains levels.

My internet is slow right now, so I can't get a direct quote.

A level requirement could be the trigger for dragons to start appearing in the game, however I think they will start appearing after you reach a certain point in the main quest.

Todd never said anything about the main quest being the trigger for dragons. Just that they don't show up right away. For all we know, they could show up when you reach level 10 or 15, regardless of the main quest.

Possibly but I doubt it.

For those wondering, he said "They are creatures like any other and you see them, not from the initial get go, but you see them throughout the game".

I would prefer if they just turned up after awhile, triggered or not. Not everything should revolve around the player.

On the other hand, I can definitely see the attraction of postponing stuff for certain playthroughs. But it can feel very artificial... I'd rather things just happen, and you have to deal with them. Maybe you can accelerate the dragon attack or whatever by playing through the main quest, but I don't think you should be able to avoid them forever through inaction.

No, the whole TES ethos, like todd said in the demo is be who you want to be and be free to do it.

I dont think they would force us to fight dragons if we dont want to play the MQ.. that would essentially cripple the sense of freedom and roleplaying.

I for one a looking forward to roleplaying a simple hermit who lives in the woods. I will pick herbs, cook food, chop wood and live a simple life. Cant really do this when a dragon is burning up my house.

You don't have to fight them. Run away.

The world does not and should not stop just because the player character doesn't want to be Dovahkiin. The dragons are still invading, they're still angry, they're still going to eat people. That's how I think it should be.

A quality roleplayer will allow his character to adapt to the events around him. Not demand they be changed to fit how he wants his character to be.

I'm guessing it would work one of two ways assuming the infomation is correct.

Either the dragons begin to appear after completing a M. quest like retrieving the golden dragon claw or they show up after leaving the initial area. Personally I'm hoping for the former with you somehow still being able to learn and make use of dragonshouts for those who after completing multiple playthoughs didn't feel like going though the main quest again (or fighting dragons). Though thats rather doubtful not to mention goes against the core/canon of the game.

He didn't explicitly say dragons need to be triggered by a certain event, he just said that we don't see them right from the start, which for all we know could mean dragons are leveled and even the weakest dragons don't spawn until a certain level. Still, when I heard that, I was hoping he meant it in the way you said too, because if I decide to ignore the main quest, I don't want dragons to be an ever present threat to the world that keeps reminding me that I'm supposed to save it from them. I'm fine with dragons, but if I decide I don't want to do the dragon slayer thing, it would be nice not to have them forced on me.

I hope it's the case. I would hate just walking along the road, not a dragon slayer, just some average joe in a guild and OMGWTFBBQ A DRAGON attacks.

I want them to appear after a certain point in the MQ.
