I too am very excited for Skyrim in a realist prespective that I'm not expecting trivialities like Crysis graphics (nor do I care) along with such things like redundant amounts of skills like so many are thinking in terms of quantity and not setting the bar for something that is quite simply unfeasable or aleast very time consuming.

Regardless no matter the complants TES Skyrim is going to be a successful and a well sold game rivaling that of whatever FPS is being released like Gears 3 or COD clone (hopefully), and no amounts of complants is going to change that. Overall Skyrim I think will still be a success with the fanbase and perhaps much of the old guard who has been playing since arena.

Spell creation & Todd’s remarks – concerned
Amour/Clothing slots system? Unconfirmed – concerned
Alchemy & Todd’s remarks – concerned

Fast travel as apposed, travel services, mark/recall….. Dislike
Fear that the more action RPG it becomes the less intelligent it becomes – Dislike

I can't believe people are falling for that marketing crap again. I can't wait for Skyrim, and I'm sure it'll provide some great rpg moments. But buying into PR [censored] is not really what I'm about.

player's actions. ("You jumped on my kitchen table and sent my possessions flying across the room? Oh, hmm. I saw a mudcrab the other day.")

I laughed.

I'm not trying to troll, but all this negativity makes me want to state that I actually have pretty high hopes for Skyrim, and explain the reasons for that.

Character development looks amazing. Firstly, by ditching classes they've fixed one of my biggest peeves with Oblivion: that any discussion of character builds eventually ends with "put only controllable skills for majors". I've never liked that style of play. I play so I can kill stuff, have awesome adventures and feel like a Big Damn Hero. When reading about classes, I wanted an idea of what kind of builds would be balanced in a conventional sense, not what would allow me to grind for days and max my attributes. Additionally, perks allow me to feel like my choices are actually meaningful. Suddenly it matters what skills I choose to focus on early in the game, because while I may still be able to max all my skills eventually, I probably won't be able to make up enough perks to have a flawless godmode character. My character, then, is now a unique individual with strengths and weaknesses, giving me further incentive to start over and try a completely different play style.

Combat looks awesome. I felt like Oblivion was moving in the right direction, as combat felt far more tactical and exciting than Morrowind, but it did eventually become a little repetitive. Bethesda's stated emphasis on making combat in Skyrim a visceral experience has me salivating. I've seen it mentioned that blocks will be more timing-based now, and apparently that's unrealistic, but really? I don't care. Blocking added a level of tactics to Oblivion's combat that Morrowind lacked, and more emphasis on timing will only add to that. Also, magic. Spells are supposed to be more unique and epic, which is great because mage duels in previous titles were pretty lame. I might even consider playing a spellcaster for more than a few hours, this time around.

EDIT: They deleted the reply that went "Another one of these?", and that's sad. It made me lol.

I agree, Skyrim is looking to easliy become my new fav game. I so far have agree with everything they have done, except perhaps the UI, but I don't care as mods will take care of that.

As for the Shield thing, its not realistic that you just can hold your shield up and the enemy attacks you right on the shield either. But in other senarios, like a dragon breathing fire or holding by your head to protect from arrows it does make sense, either way this makes for more exciting combat.

I am really excited about Skyrim. And let me tell you, when the game was announced I wasn't excited at all. I really wasn't sure what we were going to get with Elder Scrolls 5.

But a few GI updates later, especially the update about better combat I have officially crossed the line of cautious optimism (to excited fan?). I am still trying to stay as reasonable as possible, but the direction they are taking everything from perks to intuitive user interface (along with the ability to view items and rotate them) and the way dragons are being implemented (you can find them anywhere, they are not scripted and they can be found in caves?! pure innovation), the new magic system... it all just sounds too good to be true. But there it is.

I dont see as much negativity as some of you guys claim exists. Some people are just too sensitive. If you are excited, then who cares what others think? Simply ignore the their threads if you disagree

so Skyrim's combat skills including perks (which i'm sure Bethsda could have used a better name for since so many people seem to not understand what a perk is) are on par with Morrowind's, and just might be even deeper.

I agree - I hate the term "perk" It reminds me of FO, and seems so superficial, when it is actually a huge factor in defining your character. Maybe they could use another term like expertise, talent, expertise, proficiency aptitude or competence

Storm

+1 for both.

Trait(s) may have been a more suitable choice of word in my opinion.

Actually I haven't noticed this 'wave of negativity' aside from a few threads that just recently surfaced. After reading the OP in those threads most of what they are worried about is either misinformation or assumption, much of which I have expressed my view point and opinion on in the past few weeks in other threads dedicated to the same topic. So I just sort of "pass" on expressing myself in those threads most of the time unless there is an opportunity to talk about something new.

unabashed fanboyism.

More of the same:

I would hand Bethesda 100$ for one of their open world games without knowing anything about it. Why, you ask? I kinda feel like I owe them that much for providing me with a far greater game hour per dollar value than ALL of the console games I'd purchased from Sega Master System to PS1 combined.

I spent 1000's of dollars for 100's of hours of game play. Now I pretty much don't play anything else and I've spent 100's of dollars for 1000's of hours of game play.

Add modding to that and it puts Bethesda at the top of the gaming industry with absolutly no competition.

FO3 grossed 300million on day one. Mark my words, Skyrim will break 500million and Beth's games will continue to get better.

I can't agree more with you on this. I like the new way of character development and the graphical landscapes. I do agree that mountains are more fun than just trees. But I hope their isn't just mountains. Need a good mix of things but so far I can tell Betheseda won't be failing the Elder scroll fans.

I raise my glass to a fellow Browncoat.

From everything I've seen or read, I remain hopeful that a big majority of what I liked about Oblivion will show up in Skyrim.
