Excited for The return of swords and magic?

Post » Sun Dec 20, 2009 2:16 pm

Just somethin ive been thinkin bout but i realize im mostly excited for skyrim ( great game by the way ) because its a return to swords and magic compared to having to go into VATS for the last 4 years...2008 rite?...anyways this is just a realization i had and i thought most ppl were in the sAme frame of reference too..but just werent thinkin bout it...personally i cant wait to play skyrim til im achin to go into VATS again in 2013...of course then again...i dont think theres gonna be an fps drought anytime soon though...So anyways send a shout out if u'd like...maybe dragons is whats keepin u up at night...or maybe the game looks really good cuz u could honestly bash ur head into ur keyboard if u see another super mutant..who knows..post below maybe?...(imo i think 2 fallouts in 2 years is overkill lol compared to cod)
PS: slight confusion here...im sayin the return of "bethesda made" sword and magic game..i.e elder scrolls...
-also i think its still funny that its been like 5 years pretty much and after all the rpg's ive played in the last 5 years i still come back to Oblivion...well made and ahead of its time...imo

Yeah, I hated it when fallout 3 came out and oblivion went away. I miss Oblivion - how unfair it is that old games stop being playable when newer games in a totally different series are released!

Expanded further upon that it was because of that whole fps craze tat hit...bethesda prolly would've never bought the liscence...seems they had a lot of mixed feelings about fallout...if u watch the interview with the devs they always make a comparison like "im so glad to be drawing swords again..no more grey skies or ak47's to draw" or " oh im glad to get back to natural sound design instead of robots and dust in the wind"

Yeah, I've actually always preferred Oblivion to Fallout. Why? Because it's in your face, visceral combat instead of picking away at things from a distance. Give me a sword and board over a six-shooter any day.

yeah, i was playing falout 3 today, and i though to equip the jingwei shocksword and try fighting with it for a while, and it felt so much better than sneaking everywhere and shooting enemies with a guass rifle from a distance.

also killing enemies without having to use vats will be nice and refreshing. though a few good things will come from it, like the finishing moves.

Yeah, I too am really stoked for this. Sure I got into Fallout 3, but I've always much prefered fantasy/medieval settings. I remember my 2nd weapon choice was the Chinese Sword, without a doubt.

It's gonna be interesting finding out how it all works in the end with all the changes they'll be making. No doubt some of the changes will be disliked, but let's not focus on that!!! Seems a lot of threads are negative and demanding...

It'll be awesome ;)

OMG I CAN"T WAIT ILove fallout3 and guns r cool but i can't wait for more oblivion cuz i really like swords and stuff like lord of the rings and oblivion. i gues i don't really want guns in skyrim though even though i thaught it would be cool with the dwarves weapons. :mohawk:

It's hardly a return. So many franchises have Swords and Magic it's hard to miss any.

I think, one of the biggest factors behind my extreme excitement, is the implementation of a new engine.
Although, as much as I love Fallout, I have to admit that the wasteland gets a little drab after a while.

Totally. What I feel most anticipation for is the simple activity of exploring Skyrim. [censored] yes. The forested mountainous region of awesomeness!!

I enjoy both fantasy & sci-fi settings, but I've never seen them blend together well in games & only very rarely done well in literature. As long as TES fantasy doesn't get smothered in guns because "GuNz r kEwL" then it can still be TES.
I look forward to see what happens with this game, hopefully it'll turn out great.
Also looking forward to DXHR in August, and KoA-Reckoning next year. Dark Souls too.

i like bethfallout way better than tes. ill take guns and grenades over swords and magic anyway. also cooler/more normal enemies, and a post-apocalyptic wasteland is way cooler than some stupid forest. there was a time when i wouldve killed your family for a new elder scrolls, but ever since F3 i just stopped caring about it, now i want F4

Can't wait for it.

I also never stopped playing Oblivion, still play it now, still mod it and still finding new ways to enjoy it and still haven't finished 100% of the vanilla game :obliviongate: . I'll probably keep playing it even after Skyrim is released.

Gotta disagree with you there, Fallouts melee combat svcked.

And Beth is still all about FPS, look at there line up, Prey 2, Rage and Brink. Beth really likes the fps genre a lot.

I disagree. I'm not all that excited for the "return" of swords and magic, because IT NEVER WENT AWAY. Amirite?

Im sorry let me be more specific ....a "bethesda made" game featuring swords and magic is back....otherwise known as having ur cake and eating it too....or we could all go play some other swords and magic rpg featuring an open world...there are some out there but there not the elder scrolls...get what im sayin? Bethesda are best at the genre they make and i'd rather play the best thing than go and play some other trash game thinkin they can take the throne...ive played a few good rpg's in the last 5 years but i always come back to bethesda's games lol
