Exclamation marks on one of my NPCs

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:31 am

So, I went up to the Imperial City to the first time on my person and I see a Golden Saint NPC reading a book standing outside the city walls telling me to start the Oblivion invasion. The strange part is that only her head is showing, accompanied by a huge yellow exclamation mark.

Using refscope, I find out that the exclamation mark is supposed to be a robe that she's wearing, added by Race Balancing Project.

So, I go here to redownload the resources for Race Rebalancing Project. http://theelderscrolls.info/?go=dlfile&fileid=293 I copied them to my data folder and I still see that very same exclamation mark.

So, is there like another resource that I should download or something?

Could be archive invalidation. Are you using OBMM or BAIN?

Did you check the specific path that Refscope gave you and make sure the file is in the right place?

I did check the path. I don't have the files. And I installed everything manually.

Is it possible, then that you are using a body replacer, and are missing a file from that?

What was the file path you were given?

Then you probably missed one of the option folders. I think RBP has some omod scripts for both packages, I seem to have seen it somewhere. That at least would help you install everything you would need.

Downloading Mods - http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/downloadmods <-- I have the OMOD linked here, right under RBP

I would like to know the file path as well. I have both the original packages sitting in my Installers folder, so it will be easy to verify file paths and whatnot. If you are sure you installed properly... If you are using OBMM (hard to tell) make sure BSA redirection is set in Utilities > Archive invalidation. If the files are installed, they may not be showing up in game or something.

The robe is called Golden Memory Robe. This is the NPC who's standing on the paths connecting the Imperial City Prison to the rest of the city.

Missing file path: armor/gloldensaint/M/armor.nif
armor/goldensaint/F/armor.nif
armor/goldensaint/M/armor_gnd.nif
armor/goldensaint/F/armor_gnd.nif

She's also wielding a Golden Longsword that isn't showing up either, but I know SI adds that. My OBMM is already set to BSA Redirection.

I'm not using any body replacers at the moment.

Those are all vanilla items from Shivering Isles. Do you have Shivering Isles installed?

Isn't that NPC added by Integration. I had no clue that that was an RBP character... This is a perfect example of why we want the complete info that FormID gave you, paths and owners. Those files are SI files, as you said. We had no way of knowing that prior to this. That's just FYI. Anyway, body replacers are not the only things that touch those meshes, probably. Now, I want to see your load order, probably should've asked earlier too, more efficient. Eh, no matter...

The NPC is added by Intergration. But apparently the clothes that she's wearing is from RBP. Perhaps I should upload a screenshot of what RefScope gives me?

Here's my load order. Thanks for reminding me how to get my load order in Wyre Bash.

I'm also thinking that something may have gone wrong when I was installing Shivering Isles. Tell me. Is there supposed to be a BSA for SI Meshes? I see one for Voices, Textures, and Sounds.

FCOM requires a bashed patch. Copy one out of Oblvion\Mopy\Extras and follow the instructions on this page: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/finishinstall. It also looks like you are using a mixed version of FCOM. You do not have the latest FCOM modules installed, but you have one? of the latest MMM modules installed. What is that other MMM plugin?

Is your game patched to the latest version?

Post your LO again after following the instructions on that page. Doing that should help your situation, but because of some seemingly mismatched mods, your setup is probably still more unstable that it should be. I'll wait for the updated version before anolyzing this further.

Edit: SI should add four BSAs. If you are missing the Meshes BSA, then that is a fairly good guess. Reinstall it, and then patch your game again (if you are not using the GOTY edition.) Reinstalling Oblivion to the same location will not hurt anything as long as you did not modify the original BSAs or folders (a few of the original folders are not packed in BSAs.) I would remove the Shader folder before reinstalling. It is just too finicky to trust to the overwrite process, in my book. The safest solution, of course, would be to reinstall Oblivion entirely. If you can get away with just installing SI again, that might work too. It is worth a try.

It worked. I was wrong. Her clothes weren't from RPB, but from Shivering Isles. Turns out what she was wearing was just a renamed Golden Saint Armor. I reinstalled it and BAM! No more exclamation marks.

Archive invalidation has nothing to do with meshes, it's only necessary for textures. Meshes will show up just fine without having to tell the game where to look for it.
