No excuse not to play HUDless

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:13 am

Here's an interesting thought: People paid for the game so let them play it how they like?

Everyone can play how they like and not force their play-style on others.

I was worried that i would never know when i was about to die but if the screen goes red (did not notice this) it wont be a problem. But i gotta have the music on as i think the music in skyrim is beutyful and could not play without it

And ye i svck at english.

yeah, I like to know why I'm killed instantly when I can feel healthy as ever, when actually I have no health left (sometimes even from full health, freaking elder dragons...), why I cannot sprint away or why I cannot cast spells.

Also, evil handholding, unimersive features such as how many arrows I have, which arrows I'm actually using and where north is...

I haven't tried playing hudless yet, mostly because I play perma death on master difficulty and I already restrict myself to the extreme in terms of not using potions, fast travel, 50 carry weight, must eat and sleep, slower timescale, no trainers, etc.

However, on my next build I plan to make an outlaw, someone who runs up a high bounty in all of the holds and I will probably try and do this without the hud to make it more immersive.

So I must guess my health all the time? And I must run around the wilderness because I have no quest descriptions? Doesnt sound fun at all!

He's not telling you how to play. He's trying to encourage folks (perhaps with a bit of hyperbole) to give no HUD play a serious attempt because he has found it to be a rich and rewarding experience he wants to share with others.

lol exactly. Some people are so dense its actually quite pitiful.

It's is very hard to shoot a bow without a HUD

No. Its not. You'd realise if you gave it a few more minutes without killing everything without fail.

Role playing is a personal experience, right? There's no club where the judges con and watch you play. You should play however you want, and for me, it's with HUD and the game's music blaring and often with fast travel. I could say that there's no excuse for not cooking meals before you set off for adventures and eat at certain times every single day and sleeping from this time to this time every day. But I don't, because I'd wager a guess and say that that isn't how you like to play. The same applies to me, and many others, with the HUD thing.

Please get over yourself. Nothing about Skyrim makes you elite, despite what your ego may tell you. (I just had to express my anger at your post ;D)

My faith in this forum has been decimated by reading this thread.

The way of things is thus in the modern gamer:

"Hi, check out this cool thing I found in the game, you may like it"

"BURN THE HERITIC, BURN HIM! BURN HIM!"

What a freakin joke. When you react like that, its you who's got ego issues :D

Actually, it's pitiful that you'd consider anything to do with this game dense and pitiful. It's not that big of a deal.

And here I am willing to give the idea a chance myself. Just saying.

No excuse is needed just personal choice and a HUD if well done it has very little to do with immersion. Immersion comes from interacting with a real seeming world not turning a compass off. I killed someone in a tavern then hes laying dead on the floor. The owner of the tavern then asks me if can help some guy whos a bit down on his luck. I walk over to the dead guy which the tavern owner doesn't seem phased by and sure enough its the guy the bar keep wanted me to help. Thats the kind of thing that affects immersion not guessing at how much health you have in a fight.

Dude, you didn't say 'hey, it's a cool way to play.' You went up to us and said 'You have no excuse for not playing the way I like playing. Go die in a fire.' There's already a thread on how awesome and amazing and immersive no HUD is.

If you use a provocative title, be prepared to hear strong responses. Even if your intention is not inflammatory, your title certainly comes across as been somewhat egoistic. It is similar to "There is no excuse not to play on Master difficulty" and the unspoken "because if you don't you are a wuss"

You are telling the truth, pal!

For OP, it is your own beloved play style, so be it. Don't try to tell us to play it your way. You are telling a great story and i am sure some people may find it is fun, but many people don't.

I'm actually playing it now at work. I'm playing it in my head and then when I get home I have turn it on and remember EXACTLY everything I did and everything that happened, and replicate that.
I also play it with my eyes closed, coz I like to pretend it's nighttime.

'But I need to see my health and stamina meters'

No, you really dont. I play on expert and use Iron weapons and armour smithed to fine or superior - NEVER higher. I am very much against being a 1-shot death machine when it comes to Elder scrolls.

So if I can fare on expert with a pretty poor loadout, anyone can. Playing with no HUD makes the game better in so many ways. All of the complaints about immersion I see on here can be remedied by turning off the HUD.

The biggest benefit is the sense of discovery you get yourself, without the GPS compass holding your hand, in both the world and in dungeons.

The connection to your character becomes more intuitive... with feeling dictating your actions rather than an on screen meter. No health meter means you take note of when the screen turns red... no crosshair means you have to shoot your bow with genuine skill rather than playing the line up the crosshair game. No stealth meter means you observe your own movement rather than stealth curser.

No HUD just adds so much to the game. Turning off the music will take it to another level, as the new discovery location sound will not sound. Then you could be standing next to a new ruin and not even notice you've found it. THAT is discovery.

Hey, OP, guess what? You aren't going to force everybody in the world to play your way. Sad but true.

I play with the HUD. I will continue to play with the HUD. Why? Because. That's why. I don't need excuses one way or the other because I'm going to continue to play exactly the way I want.

There's no indication of having discovered and having cleared a place and that makes hudless utterly pointless. If the map would display cleared places as gold icons ............. One can only hope.

For the love of all things people, there is BARELY a HUD to begin with. A Compass, and 3 bars that only show up if their depleted or filled. >_>
