No excuse not to play HUDless

'But I need to see my health and stamina meters'

No, you really dont.
Yeah, I do, you don't have any dictatorship over how I should feel about a hud.
I don't think it improves it at all to drop the HUD.

I do think that that dropping the hud from Dead Island when it comes to enemy health and exp pop ups is good though but that's only because it clutters up the screen like crazy.
But I need my health bar.

Playing completely without HUD (opacity 0) isn't very good. The reasons:
- No info of item you point at. This makes it hard to collect the right things.
- No health etc. bars. Especially enemies' health is something you'd want to know.
- No general subtitles (I'm sure someone needs these)

You don't need Crosshair or Sneak Indicator to play the game. Disabling them makes the game harder, which I like.

I couldn't even play the game with the Compass markers on. They completely ruined the exploration and brain use in the game making me bored. Compass was the first thing I disabled.
The bad thing is that on consoles you can't disable just the things you don't like like on PC.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b148/ActionDragon/Skyrim/HUD.jpg I can enable and disable the Compass with the press of a button. No markers in my Compass.
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b148/ActionDragon/Skyrim/Map.jpg The default map in the game was horrible.

Edit: I recommend disabling the Compass, Crosshair, and Sneak Indicator if you play on PC.

Congrats! Now stop enforcing that everyone plays how you want them too, without hud!

But yeah, it's very immersive. However, I play on master a legit character and need to chec my health every so often by going to the inventory screen.
No excuse not playing HUDless? How about not wanting to?

seriously play your game the way you want and let other play their own games instead of forcing your flavor of the month on others
You two totally misunderstood him.
He is not forcing anyone to play HUDless!

OT:
Never gave it a try, but I will.
I already play with music turned off and it adds greatly to the immersion!

Beth forum rule #1 - Dont dare offer other players helpful advice.

Yes, you are always welcome to offer helpful advice.

"Play HUDless enhance your game experiences" <--- this is advice offer

"No excuse not to play HUDless" <--- now that's an offence, sounds like it is the only right choice to play HUDless, but indeed, nope, it is a preference of some players only.

That's why i say i agree you have more fun without HUD, but no, i don't agree it is no excuse to not to play HUDless.

Yeah i found the "No excuse not to play HUDless"" insulting, it's like saying i svck coz i use HuD... and to that i say what others say i play the game how i damn see fit and that is WITH HUD

No, he's not, but his attitude throughout this thread is 'Agree with me or you svck'

If he'd posted a thread in which he actually said why HUDless was better, but without the 'no excuse' attitude and not responded to disagreeing posts with snide remarks and insults about naysayers being 'dense' then he would've had more positive responses.

This is quickly becoming the new 'Fast Travel'. That got so bad with posts like 'People who use fast travel are casual losers' and the inevitable return flames, that the mods took to shutting down Fast Travel threads for a time till people cooled down.

OT: I play with the HUD because I see no reason to go without. It's already minimal and it's presense doesn't bother me.

So I must guess my health all the time? And I must run around the wilderness because I have no quest descriptions? Doesnt sound fun at all!
I don't see why no HUD would mean no journal and no map; it would make the game unplayable.

Where did you find your map; I want it for me! :) How do you disable the sneak indicator?

I am playing as a Thief, I can't see when I'm Hidden or not, i can't know if i steal or take something. I'm on PS3 so i can't disable only HUD without the crosshair

I know, with the warrior i get better immersion, but i love my thief, explain me how i can play without the HUD

Meh, I'm having a hard enough time forcing myself to play without the compass location markers; no UI would drive me up the wall.

when your a pure wizard or archer it's almost impossible to hit fast moving targets without crosshairs unless you play the game way too much to need them

i like no hud but on consoles it also removes crosshairs

Beth forum rule #1 - Dont dare offer other players helpful advice.

Unspoken Bethesda Forum Rule #xyz: Don't make a topic whose title and tone implies "The way I play is better than the way you play; if you don't play like me you are lame!" and expect not to get flame for it.

You may not have meant it like that, but apparently, alot of people took it that way. If you had make a less elitist-sounding post like "Tips for Playing without a HUD" or "Playing HUD-less for Better Immersion" or "HUD-less Play is More Immersive", etc. you might have got alot of positive feedback and tips like "To turn the HUD Compass off, set bShowCompass=0 in the ini" but instead, people wasted several pages arguing over the tone of your post.

Just bear that in mind when making new topics.
Better Quest Objectives by whickus. It's a great mod.
See? I posted that link way back on Page 2, and most people probably missed it because they were too busy arguing.

The way you presented this helpful idea was not helpful BUT I do wish to immerse myself further. I like the idea but I'm not worried about health (If I die, I die and hope I have a recent save) or stamina (you can tell when your character is tired). Magicka is simple to me too. If I can't cast and I hear the stunted magic sound, I know I need magicka (therefore drink potion or switch weapons, etc.). What about steal/take though. Us LOWLY console players don't have nifty gizmos to customize the game. I would be all for no HUD if just that wasn't an issue, but it is.

Whether or not you were trolling or being jokingly serious, if you think something is helpful and you are contributing to the forums, why be a dike about it and be pissy when someone disagrees.

Beth forums rule #1 - DO give helpful advice and start discussions on it (minus the additude).

What about accuracy as far as archery and ranged magic is concerned? Possible or frustrating?

Very possible I do archery just fine.

Guess what those archery targets are for you see in towns? Practice!

Shoot them from different ranges, till you bullseye them and note the difference in space between the arrow tip when the arrow is notched and the target on the screen, then in battle you will be able to line up shots just by that reference.

Someone has already pointed out that there is in fact barely a HUD as it is, and what there is can be customised in a myriad of different ways to suit all tastes.

The OP's assertion that "There is no excuse..." is specious at best because there are:
A: plenty of reasons to.
and
B: NO reason why one should even need an excuse or a reason to.

Of the replies, at least some of them will be from folk, like me, who are using a modified HUD of one sort or another. That's our choice. We may post up to say something to effect of:
"ZOMFG!!11!! dis HUD r f4nt45t1c LOL."
But there is a big between showing your appreciation for something; suggesting that "you gotta try this" and coming across as being dictatorial and implying that you are in some fashion superior because people who do use a HUD need an excuse whereas you are teh l33t3st because you don't.
That may very well not have been what you meant but the internet and forums don't allow for subtleties very easily so what you actually wrote came across as very different.
I suspect it's merely your enthusiasm running away with you and fair play but keep in mind that not everyone shares your views and not everyone plays or enjoys the game the same way that you do.

Yeah I've tried archery with no HUD and it's actually pretty fun once you get used to it. Makes you feel like your actually aiming at something too.

What is this nonesense thread? WHy do people feel they need to try and preach to us how to play a game? It's a single player, we don't give two [censored] how you play your game, just don't come and tell us no, your way is better. Let me spell it out for you. N O B O D Y C A R E S.

Well, I always felt that the compass was too "fat" and was pretty big for what it did, but earlier a mod was released to make it skinny!
So, that made me happy, and for those of you who may have the same thought about the compass, or even those disinterested, maybe you will prefer a skinnier compass?

How can you tell "take" from "steal"? The only thing I have a problem with is that. Please explain.

I only just started to play in 3rd person(taken a break from 1st) and no HUD is suicide in 3rd person!!! I have tried it and found that it only works in 1st person when you are able to see the tip of your arrow but in 3rd person you cannot see the tip of your arrow, and it is rather difficult to judge your swing with a sword without a cross hair. It's fine if you want to play the entire game in 1st person but if you want to see the wilderness or be able to see your-self in action then you need the cross hair to judge your attacks accordingly, and by spending the entire game in 1st person you miss out on so much scenery and what ever else you miss by limiting the radius at which you see.

You should slow down and look around in 1st person. Yes, in 3rd you can see more and yourself in action but in 1st you feel like your looking at all the scenery. Both are good IMO.

Again, anybody know how to know if it says "take" or "steal" w/o the HUD?
