Existing Character turns NPC

Post » Tue Jan 04, 2011 4:00 pm

Wouldnt it be cool if this was a feature? You play over 200 hours building up your character. You've beaten the main story and all quests you wanted and Now you finally want to play as another character and start a new game. Would it be cool if your character from the last game was saved and ended up as an NPC/Mini Boss(Sorta Like Umbra) in your next playthrough with existing level and your equipment set from your playthrough. Anyone think this would be a cool feature besides me?

Yes, it would be, but most probably won't happen. It would be interesting to find out what happened with the Hero of Cyrodiil, I hope there's at least a book about him.

I think most people would just kill him for free loot. Besides, this would not be easy to do, you almost certainly couldn't do it to two past characters at once. You have to copy him and save him as an actual Base NPC Object, give him a location, packages, Dialog, etc. Also kind of wouldn't make sense story wise. How does the last of the Dragonborn meet up with someone else who is also the last of the dragonborn and has gear you can only get from specific quests. This would be like Umbra, fighting Umbra with the sword Umbra. Someone just divided by 0

I don't think so, hes having too much partying in his Realm.

Also, 200 years have passed.

He's a Daedric God, time don't matter.

Doesn't really make sense. Both players would have done the same quests... So unless some sort of weird time paradox went on, it would be impossible.

Did you read his first post? He's talking about past saves in Skyrim being in your most recent save in Skyrim, not about the heroes from past games in Skyrim.

Yeah I can see this as a problem but still would be a cool implementation if done in a way as to not include those sorta things(key/quest related Gear). Just seeing an NPC with you characters Appearance and Name and beefed up equipment to go along with their high level would be a nice cameo and exciting battle. I didnt mean his history from the first playthrough...just his likeness.!! Very good point though....

Right. Mass Effect messed that up for me.

Or you know... we could just have a co-op mode in the story.

Yes. I like that idea as well.
Perhaps the character is retired & just a wealthy NPC in a town somewhere. Could make for a good mod, although the player would have to tell the mod at some point that their latest save file is to be made into an NPC, before they start over.
Many of the Rogue-like games do something like this. When a character dies, their "ghost" is saved and can be encountered as a monster by future players. Those ghosts are rather difficult, as they have all your spells etc.
