[WIPz/RELz] Expanding on the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 1:23 pm

By now, I hope all of you have seen and played the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil. For those of you who haven't, please check out this topic: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1085149-relz-the-amusemant-park-of-cyrodiil-full/page__p__15815566__fromsearch__1&#entry15815566 or go straight to the DL page: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30862

Note that this is the 2.0 version, which includes the main park plus an expansion park.

Anyway, now that you've walked around a little, let me introduce my next, less strenous project.

Expanding the Park

That's right, for the first time in the history of this mod, you, the community, will be allowed to participate in the making of Cyrodiil's first amusemant park!

Wait, how will I be participating?

Simple, I will be opening up the park to new, player-made additions. You, as the modder, will be able to make several new additions which will be added to expand the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil. In this way, you can help to both expand and improve the park as you see fit. The following additions are welcome:

Attractions/Rides: Build your very own ride to be included in the park! You can make it an interior, or a worldspace of its own! Try your hand at a themed ride, like a tomb adventure, or try building your own rollercoaster! You can even add music, special effects, battles, lighting, etc! To be accepted, your ride:

-Must not contain any advlt references that would classify the ride as advlt only.
-Must not risk player safety unless proper warnings are placed.
-Must be made ridable again as soon as the player reenters the attraction. (In other words, no three day respawn that is necessary to the ride, no one-time parts or music, etc.)
-Must have an attending staffmember to explain the ride if it is not self-explanatory. Ask me if you're not sure if the ride is confusing or not.

Carnival Games: Build your very own carnival game! Maybe you'll make a shooting game, or perhaps a miniature horse race! It's your choice! To be accepted, your game:

-Must have an admission fee and a reward/prize
-Must not risk player safety unless proper warnings are placed.
-Must be able to be played again and again without pause (i.e. No "wait three days to play again")

Shops/Restaurants/Misc Buildings: Start your very own shop in the park! Or try building your very own restaurant; maybe you'll even add to the Hungry Restaurant Franchise! If this doesn't suit you, try expanding your horizons: You can try building an aquariam, a zoo, or even try a bathroom! To be accepted, your building/place:

-Must not endanger the player in anyway. However, you may ignore the fact that the player may personally and willingly stir up unprovoked trouble by either assault, murder, or theft.
-Must not contain any hostile NPCs, creatures, or any thing that may attack the player without warning.
-Must be open from 8-20 and be locked from 20-8 if it is a shop or restaurant. Other buildings may be always open.

Expansion Parks: For those of you daring enough, you can attempt to build your very own expansion park for the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil! This is no easy task, as expansion parks do have some challenging minimum criterias:

Each park must have:

-At least two rides/attractions (Vehicular, walkthrough, or other)
-At least one carnival game
-At least two shops
-At least one restaurant, bakery, bar, eatery, etc
-At least three food, drink, snack, or misc item stalls
-No hostile creatures or NPCs outside attractions
-No risk of player injury unless proper warnings and signs are placed beforehand.
-A closing time and opening time for rides/attractions, shops, and restaurants. Some rides may not be able to be locked: talk to me if this happens.

If you meet this criteria, your park will be most likely be added to the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil as a expansion.

Are there any prizes?

There are two prizes for the winner of this competition. The winner will be picked from every set of "x" mods (the exact number will be decided only if the idea takes off).

1. A special-edition release of the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil's Revenge of the Lich King. Apparently, Halloween's ghouly claws have infiltrated the ride, and now the Lich King's domain has been transformed by the color of night. Ride through a unique Halloween-themed Lich King, complete with jack-o-lanterns, new surprises, and other horrific tweaks.

2. Special privileges to receive beta-versions of upcoming releases to either the Amusemant Park of Cyrodiil or any other mod currently under construction. Note that these betas are solely distributed to winners of this contest.

How do I send my work to you?

If you feel like you've created something good, go ahead and send it to me at tau434@gmail.com. Please include all meshes, textures, sounds, videos, and music. If I approve the project, I will add it to the park, and release an update file. If you build anything other than an expansion park, I might wait for two or three more projects before releasing an update. If you have any questions or comments, post here or PM me.

So, what do you guys think of this idea? I hope that this will be help to expand and improve the amusemant park according to the likes and dislkes as well as skills and ideas of the community. In addition, I can stop the time consuming process of doing it all myself. I hope you guys like the idea and contribute!

Thank you for reading,

Er...I just realized...I probably should have added [IDEA] to the topic title.

Anyway, I don't mean to ask a whole lot, but could you guys please read my idea and give me some feedback? Positive or negative, I really don't care, I just want to know if you guys think this would be either good or...bad.

I really do treasure your responses, and I want to make sure this is both feasible and interesting before I go any further?

Any comments?

I'm always all for community projects like TESA's Tavern mod or Unique Landscapes and Better Cities. Sounds like a great idea to me! :goodjob: I'd offer some help, but I've got too many projects to handle myself right now. ^_^

Thanks for the reply JacktheHedge.

Let me clarify why I'm doing this. An amusemant park is something that can be extremely fun and addicting. However, so far, my mods have been lacking that one special quality that makes an amusemant park. I've called upon the community for help in finding and exploiting that one quality.

Together, I think we can make the park that all modders want to play. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just boot up the computer instead of spending 40 bucks? (Well, not everytime, but sometimes when you just don't want to go out. You can't beat the real thing even if you tried!)

Anyway, any help or projects would be greatly appreciated. Please help this project attempt to reach it's full potential.

Feedback has, is, and always will be welcome. I try not to be biting or rude in anyway, so forgive me if I slip. I'll always try to evaluate your opinions to the best of my ability and from both sides of the argument.

Thank you,

Kroot

So it has been a few days and I thought now would be a good time to perhaps elaborate a bit more on my plans for the park.

So far, there are already three open spaces for new shops, as well as room for at least four new rides/games.

In addition, I can easily expand to allow for more shops and rides/games.

Finally, an expansion park will be guaranteed plenty of space.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and please, if you have any interest at all, don't hesitate to submit work or contact me if you have questions. I swear I don't bite.

Ok guys, time for an update on the state of this project.

So far, I haven't received any projects, but I'm optimistic that someone will take interest soon.

Also, you can also add comments on this thread concerning the original Amusemant Park and problems or errors that you saw.

Finally, please don't be intimidated by the list of restrictions for each element. I know they're imagination-killers, but I put them up to stop people from sending me things that I just couldn't publish. If you feel that one or more of these restrictions are unnecessary, please do not hesitate to post here or PM me.

In conclusion, please feel free to voice your opinions. The one thing I'm afraid of is coming off to the community in the wrong way (either too harsh, too criticzing, too limiting...etc).

Thanks for reading,

Kroot

Edit: I wonder, would you guys would be more willing to participate if I added some enticement (prizes)?

Hey guys,

So, it seems like the poll has got some interesting feedback. Let me ask you, if I were to add in a prize, what would you want to see?

1. I'm currently working on a very special mod that could possibly turn out to be one of my greatest achievements ever. (Maybe). What I could do is give the winner(s) exclusive access to this mod. (Meaning it will NOT be released anywhere else). If you guys choose this option, I'll give away the title of the mod.

2. I could give you an interior that you could decorate in your own personal style, putting yourself in as an NPC, throwing in some surprises, etc. Then I would put the interior in the park. (THe only rule here would be to not use explicit material).

3. Finally, the most simplest idea of all, you could get to beta-test some of my future mods that I plan to release. Some of these mods include Medieval London, Transylvania (Complete with Dracula's Castle), or The newly revived Haunted Lair.

Anyway, those are just some ideas. Please note that the only thing I will never do is give you anything worth monetary value. I never cross modding with commercial or monetary rewards or goals.

If I were to add in a prize, I would hand out the prize every ten mods that are sent in. Of course, if you guys pick the 1st prize choice, I would wait until the mod is done before giving out prizes.

Anyway, it's your call, and I put it in the polls. Please vote, and thank you for reading.

Alright, so update on the polls:

So far, only one vote has been cast; it was for special interiors. If no other votes are cast, this will be the final prize.

Thank you,

Ok, so I'm going to keep up the poll for a few more days to let you guys vote.

Also, I am possibly considering updating The Tale of Captain Redtooth to better fit Pirates of the Carribean.

Thanks,

Ok guys, I've decided to release to you my idea for that new mod that will only be released once.

DIsney's Haunted Mansion is truly one of the greatest rides in Disneyland and Disneyworld. The comical yet haunting image it expresses is one that appeals to both young and old. After playing through Nipper's Counterstrike Haunted Mansion, I decided that Oblivion could use one too.

As of now, I don't plan on making this mod public. As such, it made a perfect candidate for my prize. If you would like to recieve this prize, please vote for number one in the polls; if not, choose either of the other two prizes.

Oh, and depending on how the mansion goes, I might pursue my modding dream: To create sections of Disneyland/ or Disneyworld as they are in real life. But, that would be nearly impossible without years of work.

Anyway, just rambling. Thanks,

Kroot

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input. So far, I've been working on two things:

Updating Redtooth, which should be done by tommorow.

Planning a log ride called the Wrath of Oblivion. It will be a boat, not a log, but it will have log ride elements.

Thanks and please keep voting,

The release/update for Captain Redtooth is now on the Nexus download site. You can simply click on the link on the first post and then proceed to the dl link.

The update, for all of you who don't know, makes the boat automatic. It also fixes that annoying "flying boat" glitch. Finally, it enhances teh ride twofold.

Thanks,

I have just read over the threads on this mod and congratulate you for adding a unique immersive experience to Oblivion. Although I no longer mod, and therefore will not be participating in providing new content, I can at least provide perhaps an idea that may make your mod more enticing for repeat playability once the player character (PC) has gone through your mod on the first pass.

I believe that you could add to this immersive experience by changing some facets of this mod so that each revisit by the PC will provide something new they haven't experienced before. You might recall that I previously provided help by giving you the idea and techniques for the "Rougetet's Flight" in-game video part of your mod and thank you for the attribution. At that time I pointed you to the Morrowind mod "Vivec Outdoor Mall" to assist with that idea and technique. There are other facets/features of "Vivec Outdoor Mall" (aka VOM) that you might consider to incorporate to add some enticement for revisiting your amusemant park during the course of gameplay. They are:

1) Changing the menu of food items available on a daily basis - you could have different "daily specials" for your incorporated menu.
2) Changing shopkeepers selection of goods on a periodic basis - VOM changes tapestries on a seasonal basis, paintings and drinks on a monthly basis and certain other items on a daily basis (all times game related) to continually provide a new selection to the PC - they never know what they might find when they revisit. With some additional work, this could even be applied to your ride structure. These are handled through scripts in VOM.
3) Incorporate certain unique features based upon TES Lore holidays - VOM does this through incorporating certain holiday "restrictions" as researched in the Imperial Library. Even consider adding your own "special days" to the mix - just like your state fair has days set apart for seniors, schoolkids or whatever, you could incorporate that theme by changing the makeup of what NPC's are in the park - i.e. think "Argonian day" - could be a day of the week where you populate the park with mostly argonians and therefore any "water-themed" attractions would be the most visited/used by that race. Could be separate days for certain races, etc.
4) VOM also adds a special Khajitti pickpocket to the VOM mall (only on Jester's Day - as defined by the lore from the Imperial library).
5) Change dialogue and NPC's that are park "patrons" available based upon weather, time of day, proximity to certain attractions, disposition, race, etc. Also consider that some rides could have a "night look and feel" when ridden at night - VOM does this by having both a day and night balloon ride separate in-game video but there may be better ways.
6) You fill in the blank here for other ideas that might make your amusemant park change from visit to visit by the PC - basically things that will emulate real life.

I am suggesting this to provide mod users enticement to continually revisit your amusemant park periodically during the playing of the game rather than only visit it once and never come back due to a "been there, done that" attitude.

Hope this helps.

Rougetet,

Like always, you bring up excellent points. I may consider integrating a few of them into my mod.

That said, there's only one huge, gaping problem. 75% of your ideas require some form of dialogue. This dialogue, in turn, must be voiced.

I cannot voice all these lines by myself. Part of the reason I opened the project to the public was to attract voice actors who could help ease the burden of constant voice acting. So, things like unique NPC dialogue and special days won't be happening. But thanks for the feedback.

Finally, seperate from Rougetet's suggestions, I have nearly completed the replacement for both the planned (and failed) Wrath of Oblivion and the frustrating and unpopular Labyrinth: The Wrath of Sithis.

Thanks,

Kroot

Update,

Two official prizes have been added to the contest. After reading through Darkrder's Halloween contest and having my video card fried last weekend, I decided to reopen this thread one more time. With school getting harder, it's too difficult for me to keep expanding the park and adding new rides and attractions. While I have announced plans for a Second Amusemant Park, I cannot assure that the park will encompass more than two new rides in addition to a small provincial exchange. I'm afraid I simply don't have the time anymore. Thank you in advance to anyone who wishes to participate!

Thanks for reading!
