Expansion or DLC?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:38 pm

DLC costs exponentially less to produce so it does not matter that fewer people buy it. The profit margin is just too large for companies to pass up and that is why you see EA milking the DLC cash cow with their RPG's.

Where better to assess information and feature demographics THAN YOUR OWN FORUM?

what would someone who's never played the series, who doesn't even know what TES is have, to offer?

You really think the majority of people that have played TES is on these forums?

...thats not what I said, I said WHO HAS NEVER PLAYED THE SERIES.

 that wasn't my question Rag.

I go to several other forums with TES in the repritore of course not.

You implied that if you're not on these forums you don't know what TES is. Pretty ignorant. :brokencomputer:

....No...I didnt...I said those who've never played the series....

 Are you kidding me?

So...because I said, the companies own forum is a prime area to assess what directions are good to take, MIND YOU THEY DO THIS ALREADY, people. who have NEVER played the game, Im not talking about other forums, Im talking about people who don't know the series and don play the game, ever. is implying people don't know TES...when they've never played it.

Alright, K.

Listen, when I say most of the people that will by this game are not on this forum, and you come in "Der, they not know TES is, Der!" Since I was the only one arguing against the validity of this poll don't try and act like you weren't trying to counter what I was saying.

again I said, THOSE WHO NEVER PLAYED THE SERIES, NOT PEOPLE ON OTHER FORUMS

Never said you were talking about people on forums, and neither was I. Where did you get that from?

And what were you rebutting when you were talking about people that never played it before? You just thought you'd randomly throw that in even though no one was talking about them? As I said, I was the only one saying anything about the relevance of the poll and you decided to throw that in there for some inane reason.

Look above.

I rest my case on who doesn't understand who.

Okay, what was this in response to, and why did you feel the need to bring up these people that have never played TES? No one said these people had anything to offer. Yet you feel it's necessary to bring them up. Why?

Expansion. I prefer tons of content, a huge new area, and 20-30+ quests for ~$30, rather than a relatively small new area, 3-10 quests, and a little bit of content for ~$10-20.

Ragamuffin and MK-{OmegaX} - stop with the bickering. Take it to PM and don't drag the thread off topic.

DLC simply means you can download it. You can download any game today, so really Skyrim itself is a 'DLC' in a way. But more literally, they are the same thing. I think we will be getting plenty of additional content.

Listen to the podcast, you will hear they do not intend on anything the size of SI, and more along the lines of what they did with FO3, this is no assumption, this is not twisting words, it is what was stated in the most Recent Podcast. by OXM? the fourth one.

They have already said they are concentrating on DLC rather than full expansions.

Bethesda please I don't care what they are, but full expansions are way better for every one:
1. More content for modders to play with
2. More gameplay for regular players
3. More money for the devs
EVERYONE WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why not have it all? Game first. Then some smaller DLCs to tide us over until the big expansion comes out.

I think what the OP means is, do we want there to be an expansion like the Shivering Isles, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon, or do we want DLC like Knights of the Nine?

I vote for expansion. Who doesn't have the Shivering Isles but has Knights of the Nine? Yeah, expansions take more time and cost more money, but it's so worth it. DLC is nice and all, if that's all we get then that's what we get, but expansions are great.

I most certainly agree here. Knights of the Nine was neat, and I liked it...But Shivering Isles kicked ass!

Large expansions that add both new cities/islands with legendary items and new features or 5 dollar toys? Guess what I voted for.

Poll should allow both options. If the game is good, why wouldn't I want both?

The whole concept of DLC is quite idiotic. We know "horse armor" is (thankfully) a thing of the past, but even FO3's DLC's are quite disappointing, inadequate, and (in most cases) overpriced compared to full sized expansions like Shivering Isle or Tribunal. DLC may makes sense as a business strategy, but if Bethesda claims to value the opinions of the fanbase, they should consider focusing on expansions to expand the game instead of gimmicky DLC. As of posting this, the poll had 116 votes, 113 for expansions and a whooping 3 for DLC, which is by no means a 100% reflection of the whole TES fanbase, but it should be still accurace to an extent.

edit to above: Why would you want both? Can you tell me one thing DLC's have and expansions don't? Bonus items? Please...

Because they have specifically stated that they most likely not be doing an expansion, just small DLC. Most of the fans would rather have the expansion if we only get one option.

While ideally I want both, according to some of the comments they've made I'm not keeping my hopes up for an expansion. Certainly nothing as amazing as SI was.

I'm predicting DLC to be more like the FO3 addons. Or more like the KOTN. Not a great amount of addition, but this way Bethesda can probably make more money off of us since they will be just over the line of minor DLC.... and just under a full expansion.

I think most would pick Expansion giving the option. Since its content that feels like real effort was put into it. Ever since Horse Armor I have always been wary of any DLC. The fact that there is a population of people gullible enough to buy anything so long as its cheap means they just don't usually put much effort into it. The problem of course is the Consoles. Especially 360 with its small hard drive which has a hard time dealing with large Expansion packs. But yeah give me a meaty Expansion with hours of new content an preferably new skills an options for use in the Vanilla game as well any day of the week. Rather than some small 3 hour questline.

Yet despite the overwhelming amount of votes for Expansions, we'll probably see DLC.
I'm not sure how much money Fallout 3 DLC was, but it was about 10 bucks a piece right. Shivering isles expansion was about 30-40 bucks.
Now did the 50 bucks you spent on Fallout 3 DLC equal the 40 bucks you spent on Shivering isles? In terms of Game hours, quality, what not.
In short Shivering Isles is more content then all Fallout 3 dlc together.
Now do that same comparison with Morrowind and its expansions.

Yeah, they did say that they intend do do Fallout 3 style ones, not Shivering Isles sized ones. I don't see why you quoted me though. >.> Shivering Isles would be considered a DLC today even thoough we call it an expansion. :/

But! I can buy it in a box too :D

however its not about it being called a DLC, its them not offering ones the size of Shiv isle anymore because they don't want to keep fans waiting lol.
