I'v always been a big fan of Dwarves and were sadden when I first found out in Morrowind that they all disappeared. Looking at other games like Dragon Age 1, I thought of an idea for an expansion pack for Skyrim. It would be hard to add to Skyrim main world, although it would be cool i don't see it happening. I don't want another portal to upside down land expansion, but rather something that feels closer to home. Cities of people, and another world under the surface of Skyrim. It could start as a simple discovery that then reveals they did not die, but disappeared for centuries under ground.

There could be so many different ways to go about why, or how. They have plenty of textures, and it would make for an interesting aspect to play upon.

They could be hostile, they could go to war, the possibilities where Bethesda would want to take it are endless because the lore basically says nothing more than they just vanished. They could even make it be as crazy as involving portals and other "plains" but i don't think it is necessary.

They could put together huge, and i mean huge underground cities, far, really far below the surface. They could be friendly, and have there own missions, or they could be alittle bit of both. Perhaps a currupt king, undead king? Undead dwarves?

They could even add the landmass of Morrowind that boarders Skyrim and have a-lot of it take place there, and travel underneath Skyrim.

These are just some ideas.

Thoughts, comments, concerns?

you pretty much just explained the falmer. we all thought they died. they live underground. i want them to do more withh them.

The return of the Dwemer wouldn't be something for an expansion. It would be such an cataclysmic and lore-sundering event that I think it would need it's own game.

They were all absorbed into the Numidium. It wasn't a selective process or a Holocaust. It was a single cataclysmic event. The only Dwemer to "survive" did so, IIRC, because he wasn't on a plain of Nirn at the time (correct me if I'm wrong).

To add to this, the Dwemer can't come back, because technically they're not gone. They're just not individuals anymore. Think Reapers from Mass Effect.

We have become Dwemer, resistance is futile. A new god isn't out of the question, but to see them come back in a traditional sense? I doubt it.

Edit
What I think would be more interesting if they succeeded and wanted a new mortal race to lord over, so we see them come back through their twisted creations.

I love the Dwemer and always have, their story and exploring their ruins have been one of the greatest past times of the Elder Scrolls games. That being said, I do not wish for a return of the Dwemer, one of the best things about them is they do not exist, it adds mystery and adventure!

Yeah TES is 'high ish' fantasy and while I dig the whole Dwemer thing, I'm not sure the steam punk vibe fits with the setting. Thief did that one to death already.

I actually dont want new lands to explore, I want more quests and perhaps longer civil war story with the ability to help the thalmor. I also think we should be able to be kings, I mean, were dragonborn!

Dwemer (dwarves) are gone, time to move on. i'd rather see the Akaviri take a step forward.

The only way the "DWEMER" would be able to come back is if our bloated, half-robot-spider friend Yagrum suddenly a-sixually reproduced and created dozens of Dwemer.. And that's if he actually survived Red Mountain exploding, and all those other bad things.

DLC will probably be Hammerfell, due to all the Redguard political intrigue and involvement. Another option would be Highrock. Its an entire region, but small enough to fit in DLC. A third possibility is a return to Morrowind, ala Point Lookout.

I wouldn't want dwemer to come back. They have aura of mystery surrounding them and their ruins are fun to explore. If they come back, they will be just another race in a long line of others.

Also, Yagrum was creepy with his spider wheelchair :D

Hold on folks, I read a book in Skyrim that talked about a group of dwarves that may have survived past the events at Red Mountain.

The only way this would work is if they made a whole new game set in the 1st era about the Dwemer, with the main quest line being their... Well, whatever you want to call it. Demise, trancendense, EVENT X03-7...

Spoiler

A certain character, who is a regular human in Skyrim, talks about his travels and how he even talked to a Dwemer once.

I think they want to keep the mystery alive. Maybe there are dwarves, but we'll never see them.

Probably would make a better full game rather than a DLC, but I'd love to see some Steam Punk flying saucers invading Tamriel from lost Dwemer colonies in the remotest Outer Realm. Most likely would never happen, but a man can dream.
