I think you need another option on the poll. It goes from GOTY to good but not great? Why can't it be great but not GOTY?

How about -

GOTY
Incredible
Great
Good
Ok
Poor
Terrible
Trash

or something that covers more bases.

My expectation is that the day before release, Todd Howard is going to tell the world, "Hey, guess what? I was just kidding when I said spears weren't in Skyrim! They actually are, and they rock!" And then the game will be given GOTY automatically.

GOTY for sure. Beth's games usually do get GOTY. Like Oblivon, Morrowind, and Fallout 3.

In some sense, it would be funnier if he says "Hey, guess what? we were just kidding when we talk about a new TES game". Well maybe we couldn't appreciate this at the moment, but years later we would laugh a lot remembering our own faces. :P

It will be GOTY as there is too much money involved, and BGS release of FO3 has pretty much put them at the top of the food chain across several publications (more so than any other of their titles).

However, whoever awards the title is the true debate. My money is on Spike.

Since all Elder Scrolls main titles have a legacy of always capturing GOTY I'd say it's a safe bet this one will be no different.

If it doesn't get GOTY I will be shocked. It's a Elder Scrolls game, for the last decade they have always won GOTY, this will be no different. The only game that might be able to challenge Skyrim's claim to the title is BF3, and frankly I don't think it'll be able to beat Skyrim. Not to rip on BF3, I love the game, but Skyrim vs BF3 is like Mike Tyson vs a ten year old girl. Unless Mike Tyson trips and breaks his neck (the chances of which are astronomical) then Mike Tyson is going to win, easy. Unless the developers are trying to make a bad game, it will be GOTY guaranteed. Bethesda is incredible at making games, unrivaled even.

I voted GOTY ,but Bethesda has stiff competition ...with Mass Effect 3, LA Noire, Uncharted 3, Dragon Age(I'm not that worry about this one) & even Batman A2!....

I expect it to get GOTY from SOMEONE, but I don't honestly expect it to be jaw-dropping amazing.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 got GOTY, and they were my personal GOTY's (one after the other, now it's New Vegas), I don't think anything is stopping it from GOTY.
Ya hear me?! NUTHIN!
Every other RPG (except Witcher 2) does not look at all impressive, or are not RPG's at all.
Although Duke Nuke'm Forever seems to be a worthy contender.

Pretty much all the other contenders are: Beat it in 30 hours tops then play multiplayer for a few weeks/months "depends on the game/person" then its wait until the new thing and/or DLC for said game. Theres not a single game this year content wise and on the same level as Skyrim thats why i think it will be GOTY.

Happiness = Reality - Expectations.
If you can understand this simple mathematical formula and you will live a long and happy life.

Edit: I won't venture a guess yet, this is going to be a tough year. DA2, Witcher 2... theres a lot of competition this year.

I have faith in Todd Howard and the Bethesda team. They got GOTY for both MW and OB so I'll be suprised if they don't get it for Skyrim.
