Experience System

Personally I love the training skill style of experience used in Oblivion, but some people hate it. So, which type do you want in Skyrim?

I like the Oblivion style, it just makes logical sense, and makes your character good at stuff that he/she actually does.

Sorry, just trying to kept the concepts modern for people who haven't played the older two games.

Train by using them, but using nGCD/GCD way (no level up screen, attributes seamlessly increase, and so on).

Yeah, Daggerfall style. I like the XP system in other RPGs, but the individual skill development of the last few TES games just makes sense.

Either way would be fine with me. I have played Oblivion using the default leveling system and an xp leveling system mod. I enjoy both enough to be fine with either.

Oblivions style was really easy to just sit there jumping up and down for a while or sneaking to level it up really fast and that was kind of stupid

I don't know why people even suggest ye olde DnD experience system. To this day the skill system used for the Elder Scrolls series, though certainly not perfect, has to be my favorite system in any RPG out there. Of course, I'd like if it we had them divided into Primary/Major/Minor tiers like in Daggerfall again, instead of just being limited to majors.

And if for some reason they turn it to a "traditional" system, I'm going to go to every developers house, slap him and every member of his family for assisting the ruining of Elder Scrolls.

I'll take either one. I liked the one that was in Oblivion but a more traditional would be fine also. I'm fine either way.

I really don't like leveling by skill usage, it's feels grindy and after a while becomes quite tiresome. Fallout 3 did the leveling better. I hope TES:V incorporates XP based leveling.

It seems like most people here prefer the kind of skill advancement that's already been the norm for TES, but the poll would say otherwise.

I have never liked the Daggerfall skill advancement. As someone else said it feels 'grindy.' However, what's even worse for me is the way leveling works. You have to go out of your way to level the right skills at the right time if you want to level efficiently. I know a lot of people would complain but I would love to see Bethesda go a new direction with the leveling scheme. Thankfully, this has always been moddable in the past. If I had to play Oblivion with only one mod it would be a leveling mod.

I voted other because I want the 'learn as you do' system, but I want it more like Morrowind than Oblivion, sort of a hybrid of the two. There were a number of differences in how your skills leveled and affected leveling. Also, I really want thrown weapons (which just fall under Marksman I guess) and Unarmored back.

The skill system is much better. Experience just isn't TES style. In the games, you were rewarded with money, items, weapons, sometimes skill increases etc. An experience system just wouldn't fit as you could be amazing at something you rarely use but with skills you have to use the skill to be good at it, making selecting/creating a class make you actually think about it. Experience also wouldn't work for people roleplaying as certain types of people as they wouldn't do certain types of quests.

I like the whole "Learn by Doing" concept of the earlier ES games. But I would like to take it a step further by removing arbitrary skill caps and include cross training. Using the more versatile Morrowind skill tree as an example, the Long Blade skill would be raised by using swords, however using swords will also contribute a small amount to the Short Blade and Axe skills, Using daggers will contribute to Long Blade and Unarmed. It would make more sense that a skilled swordsman would not be totally inept with every other type of weapon.
