Experiment Wish-List (A.K.A. The Dwemer would be proud)

Post » Sun Jan 26, 2014 5:35 am

Just a wishlist of experiments I would love to carry out in Nirn. Feel free to add your own! Ethics optional, feel free to check yours at the door (I didn't have any to begin with). Share your theories too!

  • Start a breeding program to determine how racial phylogeny actually works. Healers' vows be damned!
  • Can Daedra hearts be used in same fashion as Briarhearts and Heartstones? (Suspicion: Yes, but the results aren't pretty.)
  • Can alteration be used to affect permanent transformations on living things?
  • Can you switch souls between bodies?
  • What other things can be changed by Hist-sap?
  • Could you make a Numidium/Akulakahn out of Ebony? How would this affect its function?
  • Build your own Pelinal?
  • Build your own Chim-el Adabal?
  • How do potions restore magicka? Do some plant and animal components contain magicka? Can this be distilled? Can you extract raw magicka from potions? What does it look like? Is solid magicka even a thing (Welkynd/Varla stones?)?
  • How does Heroic Abrogation work?
  • How much On could a Dragon Drag if a Dragon could Drag On?
  • Nix that last one, Sheo on the brain
  • Build brain scanner in Tamriel, record effects of hist sap, greenmote, skooma, moon sugar.
  • Can Alocasia fruit be fermented? Would it be a wine or a cider?
  • Effects of daedra blood on vampires?
  • Effects of vampire blood on vampires?
  • Just how intelligent ARE some forms of undead?
  • What happens if you dig really, really deep into Mundus? What would you find? Is Mundus a sphere? A disk? A Mobius Strip???

Random thoughts on some of your questions:

I don't think you need breeding programs. Countless of generations of simple experience from all over Tamriel will probably tell you who can create offspring with whom. As such I trust On Racial Phylogeny regarding who is fertile with whom, if not necessarily their theorized reasons for that.

As for Alteration, well, we know permanent supernatural changes to living beings are a thing. And in the end, all supernatural forces are creatia/magicka. I suppose it's a matter of semantics: The way the School of Alteration works, it's probably by definition not Alteration anymore if it's permanent.

Soulswitching seems like something that oughta be trivial, or well, at least possible, with all the soul capturing and soul powering mechanics known and used...

I'm not quite sure how the material of the Stompy Robot will change anything. The essential part of both of them was that they were supposed to be powered by the Heart.

As for plants... well, magic is connected with Magnus the Sun. But at the same time, I'd assume that unless specifically noted otherwise, biology works roughly like on Earth - so, plants are connected to the Sun via photosynthesis. It's hence no great leap to assume that on Nirn, photosynthesis involves, besides its usual features, also the processing of magicka. That is why plants can be used to create Restore Magicka potions.

Oh... drilling through Nirn (Mundus is infinite, as it includes the infinite god-plane(t)s... but Nirn is finite...). Since Nirn is in fact said to be a finite plane, maybe it has a counterside? With own continents and all?

---
Hm... experiments... experiments...
Oh, how about this: Corprus. Since you can, lore-wise, contract Corprus from some poor soul who already has it, its further propagation doesn't seem to need the Heart of Lorkhan. Even with the Heart vanished, could you try to "uphold" and propagate Corprus?

Assuming Lorkhan in fact did not manage to get all spirits interested in his little project, and seeing as how spirits are concepts, does this means there are concepts out there that are literally unknowable to us? If you could capture such a spirit and force it to integrate into creation, could we experience things we could not even faintly hope to imagine yet?

re: Susano

Oh I'm certain On Racial Phylogeny is right, but I demand comprehensive and precise knowledge! Let the breeding programs begin!

But what about the Transmutation spell from Skyrim? This is clearly an example of permanent alteration.

I concur.

Ebony is supposed to be Lorkhan's blood. It might have a resonance with the heart that Dwemer 'brass' does not.

That seems logical.

Curses, I keep forgetting that it goes Amaranth->Aurbis->Mundus->Nirn->Tamriel.

---

I should hope Divayth Fyr had the good sense to keep a culture going!

Also, speaking of Fyr, apparently cloning is a thing? Including making female clones from male specimens? I wonder if they're fertile... If they are, that would certainly solve Yagrum Bagarn and Gelebor's problems. That is, if Fyr is still alive. Or his research is still around. Of course, one could always try to replicate his experiments independently. That reminds me of Relmyna Verenim, actually. Hope she's still around too. Delightful lady, really.

Oooooh I do like that idea! Would probably involve finding a way into Aetherius though, which is apparently monumentally difficult.

Funny. Just yesterday I happen to have played a TR quest: "Interview a vampire"

One question was "can you drink the blood of other vampires?"

The vampire's answer was "would there be starving vampires around if we could?"

Another was about Daedra. She stated that "Daedra are no prey".

Tamriel Rebuilt is of course "fanfiction", but I think it's just funny I stumbled across this yesterday and now you are asking those questions...

If you are referring to Nirn... Nirn is a sphere (referring to "cosmology" of MK)
The Mundus itself? No idea... isn't he Mundus made up all of the mundane planes (Nirn, the Moons.... etc)?

So where exactly are you starting your dig?

Not primarily difficult. Only very, very energy-intensive.

Indeed, I meant Nirn. Silly mix-up.

Also, really? Hmmm. What is the most readily available source of energy on Nirn? And how do we utilize it? ... My intuition tells me that the answer to the first question is 'souls'. So the answer to the second is, build another Ingenium.

-Create Daedric automatons.

-Create crystal obelisks of Order on Nirn.

-Any effects varying levels of madness and mental sickness may or may not have on magical aptitude.

-Falmer rehabilitation.

-Find ways to force a Bosmer into transforming into a Wild-hunt Monster using unorthodox means.

-Make a Vampire powerful in the sun, but weak to the moons.

Transmutate... hrm, true. Well, in fact, there you have your experiment already

Well, whatever material the Dwemer chose was already quite good at absorbing souls already, it seems. And ebony is the most common base material to hold daedric souls... hm. Maybe an increase in efficiency could be possible. On the other hand, it could lead to increased daedric meddling. Yes, clearly something to be tested by experiment. If you can get enough ebony for a super-mecha somewhere

Cloning... well, if you have cloning, would you even necessarily need fertility? But yes, Divath's cloning experiments were a side project of his research into Corprus, weren't they? So, given the right modifications and all, Corprus can grant immortality and create new life... yes, indeed, surely something to hang onto. Corprus might be one of the most potent physically manifest energy sources on Nirn.

As for reaching Aetherius, both Summerset and the Second Empire managed to do it. But it's cost inefficient: It consumes more magicka then you will ever get magic out of it. Of course, if that isn't your main concern, and instead you want to capture yourself an et'ada, then who cares

- I like the way you think! Should be possible. Verenim's flesh atronachs already demonstrate that housing Daedra in golemic shells is possible. By utilizing Dwemer animunculi designs but substituting daedric metal instead, utilize a black soul-gem to house the spirit... Yes, yes...

- Will probably require invoking Jyggalag first. May need to build a shrine before that's even possible.

- Madness is merely a very specialized and limited form of Heroic Abrogation. I think. It may allow magical effects to be produced not normally possible under the laws of magic as we currently understand them.

- A little alchemy, a little restoration, some conjuration here and there, and a dash of experimental surgery...

- Do go on!

- That would require a re-alignment of vampirism from Padomaic to the Anuic.

- It only proves that inert minerals can be altered. Living creatures, particularly by the dint of possessing souls, may have unique properties. Still, it gives hope that fleshcraft via alteration is a more likely scenario than not.

- Lucky us that a huge new deposit has been discovered under Solstheim! And with plenty of Heartstone around to serve as a replacement 'Heart'.

- Exactly. Though, that does make me think. Sigil Stones make Oblivion portals by being irresistibly drawn to Oblivion by their harmo-gravic attraction and "punching" through the fabric of Mundus to get there, correct? Could we do the same thing with Aetherius? Create an Aetheric Sigil Stone and punch ourselves a little star-on-earth into the heavens?

It seems you need a Daedric Lord to create a sigil stone.

What would you need to create a Aetherial Stone? Magnus? Magne-Re?

The problem with punching holes into Aetherius is that they seem to stay: The sun and the stars are exactly that. Which, of course, on the other hand mean one can use the sun and stars to reach Aetherius.

Oh, that brings me to the next experiment: Can you also close holes to Aetherius again? Now, I don't know why one would want to hinder the flow of magicka, but just as a demonstration of possibility...

Also, all stars are the same distance to Nirn - smaller stars are in fact smaller holes. So, could you also have holes "nearer" to Nirn? Or does that not even make sense considering how Mundus is built up?

Can a black soul be inserted into a dwarven centurion to create a cyborg lich?

Also, has anyone tried to circumnavigate Nirn and being successful?

-Assuming we ever manage to find or gather enough power to do this, does punching new holes to Aetherius (i.e. forming new constellations) have any change on the magical properties of the existing Signs? Can we create new constellations of our own, and if so, will that somehow drag the current thirteen out of balance or something? (You know how TES likes its perfectly-adjusted numbers...)
