Explain smiting to me?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:42 pm

So I played Skyrim a lot already and used smithing wherever I could. And my smith skill is around level 40.
I don't see how people manage to get extremely owerpowered gear with it and how they skill gets up that fast. Anyone care to explain?

To get the skill up as fast as possible, go on an Iron Dagger crafting spree.

To make incredibly powerful gear, take Alchemy and Enchanting as well, and synergy loop Enchanting and Alchemy until the algorithms cap the amount that you can buff Smithing and Enchanting. Proceed to make your gear.

Alternately, if you really feel like exploiting, check out the Alchemy/Restoration bug on one of the wikis.

They got extremely powerful gear by making hundreds of iron daggers to reach the max skill level, and then abused potions and enchantments so they could improve Daedric armor to have 1000 armor and 600 damage.

That about sums it up.

The funny thing is that the tri-crafting loop doesn't make characters all that powerful, especially once you really start to go over the level cap. 600 damage isn't all that big of a deal, and there's an Armor cap that makes "oversmithing" armor useless.

I know. I'm planning on getting Ancient Nord Armor on my Orc, because with his base Smithing skill he can probably reach near the cap with it. Daedric is just a tad bit much.

Although, making a 600 damage Daedric Warhammer might be another issue. I've seen it done, and it supposed one shots Ancient Dragons. Personally, I don't see the appeal of having gear that powerful. I think some people THOUGHT it would be cool, but got pissed and started whining after they realized killing everything with ease wasn't fun.

Total BS. My character has a Warhammer that does 631 damage, and it takes 5-6 power attacks at least to kill an Ancient Dragon.

Plus, it looks awesome, makes an Orc look like a true barbarian warrior to be feared.

Rough estimate, it may have been higher. Either way, I don't get the complaining about Smithing.

"I ABUSED ALL THREE CRAFTING SKILLS, GOING WAY OUT OF MY WAY TO GET THE MOST POWERFUL GEAR POSSIBLE! NOW I'M POWERFUL! THIS GAME IS UNBALANCED AND svckS!"

Pretty much. However, I actually do think that this game is rather easy. And not just on my crafting character.

Instead of whining about certain skills, however, I simply push for Bethesda to change the difficulty scaling or add new difficulty levels.

Or maybe even better yet. Learn to limit yourself on what you do to "unbalance" the game.

And why should I have to avoid taking certain skills just to provide a challenge for myself? This is an open-ended game. But no, If I want a challenge, I'm supposed to not take Smithing, Enchanting, Alchemy, Conjuration, Sneak, Illusion.... The list goes on.

Bethesda just needs to make it a bit more difficult. How about not having vendors sell so many items especially the high end ingredients like Daedra hearts?

That would be a start

Meh, making it more difficult to attain high-end items doesn't get rid of the problem, it just makes the problem take longer to become apparent.

No, not at all. Just either choose to powerlevel or not to powerlevel. I only use smithing with materials I find or mine for myself. Part of my role playing. Same with alchemy. Only ingredients I have found. Have a level 16 Nord warrior who hasn't even been close to an enchanting station yet. Will eventually get there. It all comes down to how you personally choose to play the game.

Bethesda should provide a challenge to us regardless of how we choose to play the game. This is, after all, an open-ended sandbox game.

Well you could play butt naked using only a shovel and pail in your sandbox. Both are available in the game.

One provides a challenge, the other does not. Bad news for anyone who doesn't want to play naked with a shovel and pail. :P

am i actually reading derogatory terms for using smithing etc and advancing it fast ?

since when did the MMORPG moaners come to a single player game and lecture peoople on thier gameplay styles ????

even sadder than doing it on an actual MMORPG forum.

Fairly easy to do, I do it once in awhile as not to gimp my character too much. Mine or buy iron and make them into ingots. Now either buy or hunt leather and make leather strips. Now go to a forge and make loads of cheap iron daggers until your skill levels up like a mad dog. Now you can also use cheap petty soul gems and enchant the iron daggers to do your enchant skill and make loads of gold also in the process. Like I said I do this only a little at a time so as not to gimp my combat skills.
