Explanation on Morrowind?

Post » Fri Dec 10, 2010 11:27 pm

So, I joined in on the love of TES series when Oblivion came out. The graphics blew me away, and the storyline was amazing. I spent well over 200+ hours playing this game on different accounts. After I had beat the game as far as I could, I was still itching for more. So I went to my local Game Stop, and bought a new copy of Morrowind. When I popped it into my 360, I was excited to play another Elder Scrolls game. I started the game, and knowing that it's an original Xbox game, my expectations of the graphics weren't high, and they didn't impress. But I went through with it. About a half hour through, I was done with the game. After seeing a random guy just fall from the sky, and having tons of difficulty with the combat, I gave up. Since I really have no desire to play the game because mostly of the combat and inventory system, could someone please clear something up with me? Looking at a full map of Tamriel, and the map that I got in the game of Morrowind, I notice that it seems you only play in Vvardenfell through out the game, though it's a large island next to the land of Morrowind. Do you actually get to go to the land of Morrowind, the part of Tamriel?

Oh, and please, I know Morrowind is very close to many peoples hearts. I don't mean to bash it or anything. I just personally didn't enjoy it. Maybe if I had played it when it first came out?

You only get to explore Mournhold in Morrowind- a city. And the Island of Solthseim to the west. Everything else is off-limits.

Also, the combat is more along the lines of an RPG instead of Action/Adventure- it sounds like you don't like having a chance of "missing" or "do no damage" in combat if it's out of your hands. Generally speaking, combat gets easier if you have around 45-50 in the associated combat skill, 30 is the absolute minimum of "usefulness." Anything lower and you'd better have decent agility to level it up without training. Of course, you're not limited to the amount of training sessions per level...

Well in the expansion Tribunal you get to go to a city and then a tower that exist on the mainland, but the answer is no. You don't get to go to the mainland, but technically Vvardenfell is Morrowind. Vvardenfell is just the name of that section in the region.

Oh.. Because I was reading the Game Informer story on Skyrim, and it showed the whole of Tamriel. Each part of country is put in different colors (like on real maps to show different states or countries) and Morrowind and Vvardenfell are both purple, yet obviously not the same land mass.

I might just pop Morrowind back into my Xbox, and try it again for maybe the 4th time. Haha! And well, it didn't seem to make sense to me to miss when I obviously just hit said monster.

Get it for the PC, if you can. You should be able to run it on any modern peice-of-crap machine available- and you get access to MODS! And some of them make Morrowind look like it was made in the last year or two (though you probably won't be able to run it on most peice-of-crap machines.)

Too bad that's what I got -- A piece of crap machine. It's got an integrated graphics card so I can't even put a new one in! I'm going to be making my own computer from scratch in the next year or so, and I'll do that, then =] Thanks for the info. I'd like to try Morrowind with better graphics.

Actually, most machines you get do have an integrated peice-of-crap video card. Mine did when I bought it, but unless it's taking up an expansion slot on the Motherboard (or the motherboard doesn't have one, both of which I have never heard of) you should be able to upgrade it.

Nah, trust me. My dad and I, along with my friend took the computer apart, and it's integrated into the hard drive, and I can't put another in. This computer used to be a work computer of my dads, until they upgraded their computers.

I'd say persevere. Morrowind found itself being thrown off the wall, and down the back of my bed first time round. It took a while for it to break the Nintendo * really devoted fan * inside.

So glad it did.

Definitely try giving it another shot, if you can. Morrowind is easily one of the greatest RPGs you'll come across in this lifetime, and if you're interested in the lore and setting and all that jazz, Morrowind's definitely got that in great supply for ya.

I can see what you have against the combat, but what about your inventory is off-putting?

"and it's integrated into the hard drive,"

lolwut?

2. "and it's integrated into the hard drive,"

1. I didn't like the lay out of the inventory. It just looks and feels awkward to me.

2. If open my Computer, and pull out the hard drive, it's one big case, jsut like a hard drive is supposed to be. But inside that, is the graphics card it's self, which I can't remove or replace. Let me find this internet diagram of my computer that I found a couple of months ago for you guys.

After some searching, I couldn't find the one I wanted to show you guys, but this one might do.

Well, now I have to try it. Ahem, The Elder Scrolls Morrowind is the greatest game in the history of the universe. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe.

On topic, I can see how Morrowind might not float your boat, only one of my friends besides me loves it and we both played it when it first came out. Everyone I've tried to show who loved Oblivion hated it. Either because of graphics, no voice over* or the combat. I think you should give it another shot and if anything do the starter quests in Seyda neen, then go train your weapon skill a lot in Balmora. It has really good story, and I would hate for someone who loves Elder Scrolls to miss out on it.

* I meant complete voice over by that, like in Oblivion and most games these days and in those days.

Edit* Awesome!

I just have to try this out. :P The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe.
// EDIT: Hahahaha, way cool! :D

Honestly, Morrowind is the greatest game ever, but it takes some time to really get into it. That's part of what makes it really special, to me. You feel completely alienated in the beginning, but you quickly learn more about where you are and what you're doing there - it adds to the immersion, for me at least, that everything doesn't just appear for free. You have to work at knowing your way around first, just like in real life.

And once you get in, there's no getting back out. Morrowind. :hugs:

Lol, I think I found me a new website to come to. You guys are hilarious. I wanted to ask you guys a question though. Idk if it's against the rules since it's TES section, but do you guys enjoy the Fallout series?

I loved the hell out of the first Fallout, haven't really gotten to play 3, yet. My computer has a frikkin' ATI Radeon card, so yeah...no high-end gaming for me, not until I get a new one. :/

Do you have a camera? Think you might be able to take a shot of that, because I've never seen one mounted to the hard drive, that's just...odd.
Usually a computer with an integrated video card will have it present somewhere on the motherboard, usually by itself, visible when the case is open, and even with an integrated card you should be able to install a new one in one of your computer's expansion slots.

Just noticed the other photos on that link...
So, it's a really tiny case?
Seriously, if those interior shots are accurate, that thing's tiny as hell. XD

Yeah, this mofo is small. I have a camera, but this computer svcks so bad, that I don't have a slot for the memory card. I think I just found the USB cord for it the other day, but now I've gotta find the camera it's self. LOL.

Oh, and I forgot. I played FO:3 for the 360, along with New Vegas. I'm like 22+ on New Vegas, not done with the game yet for my first play through. I thought I'd be on this game harder that I am, but I'm not really. I put it in every once and a while but it's lasting me for my money, so I'm not complaining. I also have FO: 1, 2, and Tactics for the computer. I've played them also, but only a little.

Morrowind has a painful beginning, but once you get your skills up, things will go much better.

I know there is, I just wanted some TES fans opinion. I think that the engine of Fallout really helped out what TES V will be.
