Explanation needed from an expert

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:08 pm

Hi all!

I am looking for an expert opinion or explanation as to the following problems with Skyrim on the PC specifically:

1. I am experiencing an extreme amount of desktop crashes whenever I try to fast travel from and to anywhere on the stinking map.

2. More times than I have counted after the game is loaded, I can’t even take a step without the game crashing to the desktop.

3. I can step into a building, for example and seeing nothing but a blue, sometimes a lime green background –to which I have to do a control>ALT>Delete to get out of it: Because I can’t access the “TAB” key.

4. When traveling via foot fall express or fast traveling or going through gates, caves or doors once on the other side NPC’s are invisible except for their armor or clothing; or, that their armor or clothing are a block of purplish pink in color?

5. The other day, I tried to use a “fireball spell” and while I could select it in the menu portion I could not use it, as my character would only use her two swords: And, I assure you that it wasn’t user error.

6. Just moments ago I was in-game when all of a sudden I heard the loud, extremely ear hurting bang followed by a crap full of white noise --static. (I have surround sound headphones.) There again, I had to control>ALT>Delete, because I could not access the "TAB" key.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Jallard

I have the Tab key problem occasionally, too. I can't figure out what causes it, either.

I found a fix of sorts to all of my minor problems. You should try it, too. Go to task manager, click 'Processes', right click on the TESV.exe item and set the Priority to 'High'.

This fixed all of the little problems I was having- stuttering and no-Tab being the worst of them. Really, it makes your game run twice as well.

I've had virtually zero glitches until just recently, I'm getting the blue textures occaisionally and I've also gotten one where I draw my sword but can't swing it.

Disable save on travel setting in game.

2. More times than I have counted after the game is loaded, I can’t even take a step without the game crashing to the desktop.

onboard sound or dedicated card?

it's generally a good thing to post system specs when asking for help, unless on a console.
as far as certain keys not working, well there are fixes for that, but it's because the game is, after all, a console port.

The 4GB fix is already installed and every stinking driver is up-to-date. As far as I know updating drivers is S.O.P. first and foremost.

I remember when I installed Oblivion and FO3 on my laptop some time ago there would be glitches in the environment, in objects would appear as a big yellow exclamation mark and other weird things, it wasn't running smoothly etc.
I simply re-installed the game and it fixed all of my problems.
If you haven't already, re-installing the game is worth a try.

he'll figure it out on his own.

OP thinks I have sigs turned on, and fancy avatars as well, even though I use FF/noscript/adblock and a slew of other add-ons for FF to block junk.

and yes, I have an avatar upped to this site. it's not for me, it's for the users who can't recognize a name, without a pic. lol.

I wasn't being dike. So, If it seemed that way, I apologize. All my specs are listed in my signature. I merely assumes no one looked there.

Fair enough, on topic many people complained of having problems when running skyrim in SLI.

I've seen a sticky in the Hardware/Software for PC forum that talks about CTDs - that may help you.

As for the rest, we all have strange things that occur in the game. Five days ago, for some unexplained reason, my companion's (Lydia) bow and sword keep disappearing for no reason at all. It happened yesterday for the third time, except this time it was only her bow, still had the sword. Plus a few other things.

But so far, I've played through patch 1.3 without problems (I never saw the backward flying dragons lol - but I didn't download patch 1.2 so maybe that's why).

It's playable, and enjoyable. I've averaged one CTD per week (4 since release), so I count myself lucky. And it seems the hot key assignment finally seems to work, at least the numbers don't keep dropping off as they did the first 3 weeks or so.

Good luck.

I don't know what that means? I had someone convince me that I needed all of this SLI and over clockable hardware to run games better. So, when I built the system I purchased all that stuff--with the exception of dual video cards. Once I got the system up and running I saw no need to over clock anything. Therefore, nothing on my system is over clocked.

Also, I have done all of the updating drivers thing. Even made changes in the MSCONFIG. And, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, along with STEAM three times now -- using REVO UNinstaller.

Sorry your GFX card specs are a bit confusing, are you running more than one graphics card in SLI? I ask because your sig says 'XFX ATI Radeon HD 6850 1GB RAM: 3326MB SLI RAM'
