Exploding Sandbags

Post » Fri Feb 19, 2016 12:36 am

I have always found the exploding sandbags rather odd. They don't seem to have anything hinting to where they are, so you have to memorize where they are or just avoid walking near sandbag walls. Also, they don't seem to hurt me much, but do an inordinate amount of damage to my power armor plating, the legs especially. I tried searching google and the forums but oddly no one talks about them.

Is there any way to spot these annoyances?

Where exactly can you find these? I've never encountered a single one, though it may just be my own ignorance.

They "explode" because you walked through them while wearing power armor. It's not like people are stuffing their sandbag barriers with cherry bombs. That would be kind of stupid, considering they are typically there for you to hide behind when someone is shooting at you.

By the way, you can also knock over those short posts at the Starlight Drive In. A few other things I can't remember off the top of my head as well. It's just one of those cool little extras that are in the game to make power armor feel more like a vehicle than an oversized t-shirt.

I have noticed the pylons at Starlight getting knocked down, really wish I could scrap those things, but alas.

Still, it's annoying they damage my plates, moreso annoying when you have a companion in power armor and they keep wrecking their legs.

The best example of this effect is the sandbag barricade at the corner of the building to your left when you exit the museum of freedom. The building where the raider on top of it yells to his boss that "we got somebody up here". After the big fight if you still have a leg plate intact go walk by it and see what happens. With better armor it is less damaging to your plates, but still a dumb mechanic in my opinion as there is no warning or visual indication. Piper has blown a leg or two off her T-60 many times due to these, particularly larger gunner inhabited locations have many of these.

On another note, I gotta say I hate that there are a few terminals you can't access in power armor, and they are not in any more awkward a position access wise than countless other computers that you can use with power armor. My guess is somewhere 8n development they thought it would be neat to have to exit power armor and sit in a chair to use any terminal that has a chair in front of it, then later scrapped the idea as just an added nuisance, but missed a few. There is one in super duper mart, and one in the old railroad headquarters.
