Exploding Soul Gems : V

When you Enchant something the Soul Gem you're using disappears, what do you think happens to it ?

Personally I imagine that the Soul Gem breaks to pieces so the Soul will be able to leave it.

It either fades back into the Soul Cairn or breaks apart into Soul Gem Fragments. I think either is plausible.

That's why you will find Soul Gem shards on Enchanting tables.

The fact that we see soul gem shards everywhere I think confirms it breaks or cracks after used.

What if you took a filled soul gem and smacked it with a hammer? Would it break? And if so, would that free the soul, or would it be in the shards forever?

Seems like a violation of sorts. I say it would be in the shards forever.

Yeah, I always assumed they broke. Hence fragments all over the place.
