Explorer limit ruins the game

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 8:40 am

I was just really getting to the meat of the game with just under 200 dwellers in my vault. I saw the update and downloaded it being excited about cloud saves. Now I can't do anything in the game as I have several dwellers out in the wasteland and when I tap on one to collect, the UI just disappears and I can't do anything but kill the app in iOS. With only 10 explorers out at a time I really don't have a reason to play the game any longer, besides the fact that I can't do anything in my vault right now anyway due to the bug preventing me from managing my explorers. Pretty disappointed...

I've got no back button on my iPhone or iPad but I do have the same issue. Kills the game for me. No choice but to kill the process in iOS and since I can't manage or collect from my current explorers I have no further reason or even the ability to play.

Submitted a 1 star review on iOS App Store, hope others do the same. Maybe they will change their minds on this one.

No back button. Frozen wanderers. Vault dead.

10 wanderer limit eliminates the fun part of the game.

Time to move on to the next game.

(I started a new vault, and was happy to note that you can skip the tutorial now AND the stupid default living quarters location is gone -- you can build from scratch, and they give you two levels of elevator to start: so that's a very welcome addition... if there were any reason to actually play it.)

If they don't have this patched by the weekend, I guess I will go wandering myself!

I made this forum account just to say I agree, if you want to kill this game off, the 10 dweller explorer limit is what is going to make that happen.

Who thought this was a good idea anyway, like seriously?

I registered an account to add my voice to those who have raised the issue of the limit of dwellers exploring to 10. I've never had as many as 20, but always more than 10 (15-18).

If performance is an issue, I'd recommend lowering the dweller limit overall. I'd be more than happy with 150 or even just 100 dwellers. But with nearly half of my dwellers with maxed SPECIAL stats, sending out dwellers to explore is what makes the game fun at this point.

This update takes that away.

I created this account just to complain about the dweller limit as well. I had about 14 out when this limit got installed and now I have no reason at all to expand my base anymore. I have tons of dwellers running around my base on coffee break with nothing to do. Putting them in bedrooms is stupid and I don't want to have to deal with prego ladies that don't help defend the base.

I was planning on maxing my base out, but if the exploration limit is 10 forget it. It would take so long to get any upgraded weapons for new dwellers, it just makes me not want to try.

Before this update the only real complaint I had was that lunchboxes should be account wide not limited to the single vault you purchased them on.

I've had about 15 dwellers in the wasteland before the update. After the update, I have couple of them waiting in the line but as soon as I click on them or try to select them from dweller list, the UI disappears and there is nothing I can do but to shut the game down. I can hear the sounds of the game and see my dwellers run about but I can't click on anything.

I have two vaults running... one big with almost 200 dwellers and the second one with just about 80. My smaller vault had only 3 dwellers out at the time of the update but just like the big vault, it freezes when I try to do anything with wastelands.

Right now, the game is broken for me.

This is ridiculous.

I too have created this account just to add my voice to the Explorer limit ruins the game discussion. WHY would bethesda do this? absolutely ridiculous decision! The player base deserve an explanation about this horrendous update.

With 10 dwellers limit Bethesda will effectively kill the game for a lot of people. The whole fun of end game is in gearing up the dwellers and sending them out to collect stuff. Once they are geared up it takes them days to run and days to come back. With only 10 dwellers out, I'll have full days when no one comes back or when I can't send anyone out. That's no longer fun.

Edited to add:

I continued to play around to see if I can get past that screen freezing/locking bug where I couldn't access my exploring dwellers or collect anything from the ones that came back to the vault. Finally I was able to access them. Instead of clicking on the dwellers in front of the vault or in the dweller list, I clicked on the wasteland itself. It brought them all up and I was able to scroll through all the exploring dwellers and collect from those that came back. After I did that, I was able to select them from the dwellers list as before with no issues. I had two vaults with this bug and I was able to fix both of them this way. I can now access and send out my dwellers again.

Now for the kick.

After I collected from newly arrived dwellers, I was able to send more out exploring even though I already had 14 dwellers out. Is the cap limit a bug then maybe?

Maybe we can all buy more lunch boxes now to get the cool gear we want.... Only reason I can come up with for such a stupid change. Game runs smooth as butter on iPad Air 2 or iPhone 6s with 200 dwellers.

ive kinda accepted the limit after thinking about it was getting tired of looking after 50 dwellers collecting junk, every dweller in vault has over 16 damage weps and i got 40 of them in storage as back up so less stress on me really

The cap is horrible and had me scratching my head, but now I have so many people in line and so much activity backed up that the game just keeps crashing. Cannot get it to stay loaded for more than 60 seconds, so on that note I give up, gave was fun but is a complete waste now.

My suggestion to the Devs is try and actually play the game with a vault capped before you release these half assed updates. Testing is kind of important or you run the risk of killing your game completely., which sadly this one is on a crash course of doing exactly that...no pun intended.

Increase the chance of getting a legendary and make it so I can actually play. Current update has rendered my vault unplayable due to having too many dwellers out. I click a returned explorer and lose the UI and then all I can do is kill the process in iOS.

Try clicking on the wasteland itself not on the dwellers. I did that and it fixed the freezing bug. I can also send out more than 10 explorers so maybe the cap is an actual bug too?

Genius man! I had also tried going through the list of explorers but clicking any explorers that were in the wasteland caused the UI bug. Clicking in the wasteland works! Thanks a megaton :)

You're very welcome. You'll have to do that every time you load the game though. Once you shut down the game, the bug returns. I hope we'll get the patch for this soon.

I'm also able to send out more than 10 dwellers so perhaps that is some sort of bug. I have almost 20 out right now and just sent out 2 more. Wondering now who initially came up with the idea that the Devs created that limit.

I've avoided updating the application to avoid the 10 explorer cap. I've got a backup (Android - root is wonderful!), but would love to have some confirmation from several users with version 1.2 that they can indeed send out more than 10 explorers. Can anyone verify?

If you're going to limit my exploration to 10 (which is absurdly low to begin with) at least give my jobless dwellers something to do inside the vault. Ridiculous. What do we want? We want more usability inside the vault!!!

We can't even get legendary items in the wastes so what is the point of limiting it? Maybe if there were extra uses for training rooms, such as defence boosts if you have 6 dwellers in the Armory, or corresponding stat boosts based on having dwellers in training rooms. Otherwise there is NOTHING -- absolutely nothing for them to do. I have over 100 stim pack production already -- and now that I can't send more than 10 dwellers out into the wastes, I don't even need that many stim packs. So now I have even more redundant jobs in my vault.

VAULT REDUNDANCY! To reiterate: If you limit wasteland exploration, you MUST fix the vault redundancy. Ridiculous.

That's correct. We're looking at the feedback you guys are posting and the in game limit has been moved from 10 - 25.

And as I posted better still not good, good would be no cap what so ever, for a game based upon an open world game this limit makes no sense what so ever and ruins any sort of endgame still. Now at this point if I want the game to be any sort of playable or enjoyable I have to remove dwellers so they are not just milling about(and no I'm not going to build more useless rooms when my vault is already survivable and sustained). I would like to enjoy playing more of the new content and that usually was when I was getting enough stim and rads to send out those who I want to send out. but now it is swap out and log how is that enjoyable. In addition to the 25 out in the wilderness I have 22 waiting to go out, this is not including the 9 dwellers working on maxing the S.P.E.C.I.A.L's so I have a total of 56 out off 175 not assigned to room tasks since currently there is no point in the game for them. Tell why there is a limit in the first place this question has not been answered. I could have understood if it was there since the beginning bet it wasn't, so why now?

OK. I'll give you credit for responding quickly. And I do appreciate the stuff you added. With that said, while 25 is survivable and vastly better then 10, it still isn't good. Now if it's a limit of functionality then as said it at least where I can live with it, though not happily. But then please at least declare it as such clearly so we can understand your thoughts. Then please give us something meaningful to do with the left over dwellers. I mean I only have like 130ish in my large vault and even with almost 40 in training I still have more then 25 that I just use to explore. Can't even imagine what the people with max vault will do. Again, thanks for the work so far, but please keep working to finish this properly.
