Explorer limit ruins the game

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 8:35 am

Implementing a limit on the number of explorers would have made a lot of sense if chance for getting legendaries was also increased. Say, to have at least 1-2 guaranteed legendaries when using all-10 s.p.e.c.i.a.l. explorers for 4+ days. Would be great to get a confirmation, or at least a hint, that it has been implemented (or not).

To reiterate:

Cloud saves - excellent feature, thanks a ton!

Raiders (if good weapons could be really looted - did not see that yet) - very much appreciated feature!

Anything that just allows to earn *any* amounts money (apart from existing mechanisms) - not great at all. Who cares about 200 cap bonuses for *anything* when every explorer brings 10k..20k from the Wasteland expedition and it takes zillions of explorations to get decent weapons and clothes? Gosh, I rebuild large sections of Vault just to optimize training areas regularly, and 50k-100k spent on each reshape is not a big deal, really, when vault's size is 120-145.

Ability to have an ending of any kind and some way to transfer characters or items to the new game - priceless, if implemented.

Signed up, like others, just to say the new update has destroyed the game for me. I had the same freeze/crash issues as others, but have found a workaround. However, there's no point bothering to play anymore, since the late game has been deleted at Bethesda's request. My 76 dwellers exploring now have to come back home and mill about doing little if anything.

On the upside, this game was eating my free time and constantly threatening my bank account. That's all over now. Thanks Bethesda!

How could you guys [censored] up so royalty twice in a year? [censored] the community with paid mods (glad that's over) now you ruin the best mobile game to date. Gotta wonder what your team is thinking and it's making me Hella nervous about the direction of Fallout 4

Just created an account to express my disappointment with this change; though at least they bumped it from 10 to 25. But that's still a joke compared to the 80 - 110 explorers my end-game vaults normally had out. Heck it'll be days before I get enough back from my 200 person vault to be able to send any out again (current 86 exploring and/or heading home).

I'd hoped for an update that made it easier to manage the horde of explorers; not one to render over half my vault unemployed.

To power, water, and feed my 200 person vault took only 42 dwellers; plus I had another 30 making stims and rad aways; and a final 8 with power armor, fat men, and gatling lasers as deathclaw defense. Beyond that the only thing for the rest of the dweller to do was to be a horde of scavengers out there looking for legendaries...

What a lame update. The limit is far too low, but even worse is the critical bug where you can't Collect your dwellers from the wasteland (I'm on an iPad).

Then again, I guess I'm pretty much done with the game anyways. 200 dwellers, all max special, all +5 or +7 gear for their specific attribute rooms, all 15+ guns, etc. Only reason left playing was to try and get better guns and all the rares -- which required a ton of exploring in the wasteland (not gonna buy them lunchboxes). If the limit is now 10 or even 25...that just greatly increases the amount of time and micro needed to continue.

If you're going to reduce the limit / not bring it back up pre-patch, then at least increase the rate at which rares are found...

In any case, I can't even play any more until the Collect bug is fixed on the iPad. The longer it goes unfixed, the less likely I'll ever play this again.

I gotta say, a reply and change within a day of releasing the update it pretty impressive! Thanks for taking the time and responding to our feedback. I'm off to download the update now!

25 is better, but it's relative, and by relative I mean still embarrassingly bad.

Do you not play your own game? Are you not aware that even without without using legendary or rare level gear you can support a 25 level, fully upgraded vault with less than 75 dwellers? What are we supposed to do with the 100+ dwellers that have literally no use now? The limit you've imposed, or any limit on number of dwellers who can simultaneously explore the wasteland - already a fairly lame excuse for "end game" - means there is no reason to play. You've already neutered the capacity to acquire legendary weapons and outfits, going back on what Todd Howard said at E3, and now you want to make it even more difficult to... well, to do anything other than stare at dwellers who have absolutely no purpose beyond milling around in the vault?

For shame.

Bethesda, the Explorer Cap has GOT TO GO!

The masses have spoken, it ruins the User Experience. Seriously considering switching to another game for down-time entertainment. Or was that your cunning plan? Have us throw-down FOS in disgust so that we'd be undistracted by the time FO4 drops?

Thanks GStaff. I created the account for the express intent of asking for evaluation of that whether or not that was intended.

Keep up the good work! Do less of today's particular kind of work though! :bonk:

So... now I can send 25 of my current idle 125 people into the wastes to get the same 17-18 plasma rifles that I've been getting ever since you nerfed the legendary drop rate? I think I'll pass.

Less than 24h response time including the change itself is an excellent response time.

This new 10 explorers limit really svcks. Especially when I get hit with, "Send 18 dweller to the wasteland" and already have more than 10 of them out there.

Two things:

1) We want hear explanation why such limit is needed in the first place.

It does not make any sense to me, in game design, or business-wise. I can not figure out what you Bethesda are thinking. I can not find any justification behind such cap so I can not accept it in my mind.

2) Give the now jobless surplus dwellers something to do.

Now near half of our dwellers are jobless and on eternal coffee break. Give the idle 100 dwellers something to do. Our vault is producing more resources than needed. So no resource job. Without alternate job than exploration, any cap on exploration is unacceptable.

I can not tolerate 100 dwellers loitering idle in my vault on eternal coffee break, can you? It is not the way FOS game is meant to be played.

If you can not find such alternate job for idle dwellers to do, cut the population limit to 100 from current 200. It is better than explorer cap.

1. There have been reports of performance issues on Androit devices when to many dwellers went exploring. (10 was the magic number if i remember correctly.)

2. Let them guard your storage rooms. (Or build radio stations and use them to summon raiders to loot them)

There is no performance problem on IOS device related to number of explorers. No problem with 100+ explorers on rather old device. It is not game design fault. It is implementation defect or bug on Android. Fix the performance problem on Android , instead of putting stupid cap on explorer. IMHO, 100 visible dwellers in the vault will tax more performance on device than invisible 100 explorers out in the wasteland.

Guard storage room? Why? Storage rooms are OK without any guard. Radio room does more harm than good to seculity of Vault. Better not to build at all. Don't be stupid to justify unjustifiable stupid change by Devs.

Yup.

The game can be entirely fixed in two very simple moves:

Increase the Dweller cap

Ditch the utterly stupid and pointless Explorer cap.

At high level there is currently no point in playing - and I've played every day since launch.

This remains a rubbish solution.

If your problem is Android performance, then release a separate update for iOS that actually functions

You are at best currently pissing off *everyone* and helping no-one. This is not a great way to improve your game, or keep people playing.

Further, the suggestion to dump Dwellers in warehouses is a little insulting and another non-solution. Kindly fix the game for people capable of running it and optimise for those who can't.

I'm not seeing any performance improvements on android, and game crashes just as often as before. I was hoping for options to lower/disable some visual (3D) eye candy but I guess it would require too much work.

Why?

Why limit it?

This is not an issue giving the game problems.

The update summed up is: "A pat on the back and a punch in the gut."

Limit is-was 10 and now 25 still...?

thats really bad, i hope they fix it.

othewise there is tottaly NO reason why i should have more dwellers nor the game offering anything alse to do.

I know and i can feel that gamesas propably wants to invest all resources on F4, but plz, just let the app be, it was funny in the beggining.

Im playing since the early begginings, and because of the app i was informed of fallout4.

Running a vault with 120 dwellers by choice cause it runs smoothly, and only accepting dwellers that are legendary to tag in.

Now with only 10 to explore, i cant farm better items, and i can"t sent away dwellers that i don't want , into the wastes for ... purging, you know ;P

PLEASE Bethesda, let us have the old farming numbers otherwise the game will became obsolete and providing nothing to do.

i hope this wasn't your aim from start.

BTW i think i have found a walkaround the problem guys, plz check on my post about it ;D i rly hope it works for you too

Oh dear

I also just noted that there's now an inventory limit for wasteland explorers

Are the devs actively trying to sabotage their game? If so, you're doing a splendid job. The whole point of sending dwellers out is to see how long they last. The kit gathered is 90% worthless. This is just utterly stupid.

Although I just noticed the post from an Admin stating that the explorer limit has been upped from 10 to 25, this whole cap on explorers is still bothersome, annoying, and has contributed to me losing interest in playing the game any further.

I play on a PC using Bluestacks.

I've had 2 vaults running since Fallout Shelter was released for Android.

After about the first week of play, I've had 30 - 75 Dwellers out exploring the wasteland, staggered over time where roughly half will be on the way out while the other half are returning.

I think my real-world Luck attribute must be low because out of 2 vaults, with a near constant 30 - 75 dwellers exploring the wasteland at any given time, even with most of them maxed out with 10 on all their attributes, I've only ever found like 3 or 4 legendary items over the entire time.

5 point outfits (rares) I get a few, and, the biggest damage weapons I find are Flamers.

Other than that, what little Legendary items I've collected, have all come in Lunchboxes.

Capping the explorer limit kills my Skinner Box of hope that I might actually find something Legendary.

If I can only send out 10, or even 25 while the rest of my vault just sits and spins, It kills the game. It breaks the Skinner Box.

If you don't know what a Skinner Box is, look up B. F. Skinner as it applies to the Behaviorist paradigm of Psychology, and you may have a better understanding of what a Skinner Box is, and how it applies to this in terms of numbers of explorers equating to button pushing for a reward.

Limiting the explorers breaks the Skinner box and makes it so I don't want to press the button any more.

Thanks.

There was already a 100 item limit. Previously, they keep finding stuff, but wouldn't pick it up. Now they just autoreturn when they hit 100.
