Explorer limit ruins the game

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:23 am

I have been playing since near day one, I have 200 dwellers nearly all maxed out, my vault is optimized and can run efficiently on less than 140 dwellers. I routinely had 50 dwellers out in the wasteland to search for rare items. The cap is now 10? This completely ruins the game for me.

I agree. I only logged into the forum to see what people were saying about this. The limitation goes completely against the "open world" that Fallout is known for. Why would they feel that they need to limit the number of dwellers in the wastelands? It is a single player game so even if having 100 dwellers in the wasteland conveys some sort of unfair advantage nobody cares!!! Just let us have our fun with the game until Fallout 4 comes out.

BTW, I also think there should be an option to turn off Deathclaws for those of us who just want to play a casual game. Or at least give some sort of bonus for defeating the Deathclaws that makes it worthwhile.

OH I send 30 of them yesterday. I guess I have to kill them, when they come back.

Yup and on top of that, the new update has a bug, so you can't collect from dwellers in waiting position if you are over the limit.

Great update Bethesda, you pretty much ruined the game for lots of your players.

That's not true.

I have 102 dwellers waiting outside in line and have already collected items from 5 of them.

Click on a waiting dweller, then cancel the selection with the back button on your phone. Let the data load then select the dweller again, it will work.

Or select them using the dweller list screen.

My game crashes and UI dissapears, the moment I select a dweller in the wasteland, no matter if they are returning, exploring or waiting.

Clicking the back button and selecting it again worked, very strange bug, thanks.

The same bug happened to me, but I haven't been able to replicate it again. Not much help sorry but I think I selected them from the dweller overview screen the 2nd time

I had the same issue. Clicking the back button resolved it but it is frustrating that I can't click on dwellers from the list anymore and that I need to scroll through them in the wasteland using the arrows.

One of my vault have near 200 population but mere 80 dwellers are working on vault. Rest 2/3 are exploring wasteland.

If explorer are capped at 10, what should I do with the left-over jobless dwellers?

The vault is running well without them. The bottle cap is maxed. All resources and stimpaks are well over-produced than demand / consumption. My vault don't need any more worker. Most workers are already maxed out.

Should I watch the 100+ idle dwellers loitering vault on eternal coffee break? I said before that I hate the coffee break. Should I kill the nealy 100+ dwellers who lost their job due to the explorer cap?

The wasteland exploration is the only meaningful late game content. Why does Bethesda try to kill such late game? What is rationale behind such cap? I can not figure out what Bethesda is thinking. Does it let Bethesda sell more Lunchbox and make more money? I don't think so. Lunchbox is useless on late game.

So why? Why on earth the explorer cap?

Since I recovered my username, reset my password and logged in just to post this exact same thing, I'll simply quote it for emphasis. This is the essential problem with the change.

I absolutly agree with the rest of posters.

Bethesda has ruined this good game, making it boring and lack of interest

I can't imagine which is the purpose of this limitation of explorers

I hope they'll think it twice and put out this limitation

10 explorer cap is absurd. Generally it takes four days to do one exploration. So with cap of 10, we can send only 2.5 explorers each day.

Hey Betheada, do u think 2.5 explorers a day reasonable? More reasonable cap should be 100, 25 explorers a day. Don't you think?

I can not figure out why such cap is needed. It does not make any sense on game design, on technical aspect or on business side.

If you feel like adjusting item finding balance, just lower drop rate, not putting cap on explorer.

Created an account just to post this same information. If I cant explore with all of my idle people, the game is not worth playing. How else Am I to find all of the rare items in the game???

I have 200 dwellers and they are almost all maxxed on stats, for the sake of argument let us assume they are.

30 power

26 radio

26 stim/rad

10 defense

12 food/water

10 MAX Explorer?

Even with the stupid 26 people in radio for the happiness this leaves about 80 (up to 100 if i cut stim/rad) MORE potential explorers while still running at perfect efficiency. What is the point of having 200 dweller space if 1/3-1/2 of the dwellers are completely wasted? Please revert the cap on explorers.

I have been waiting for this next update/patch before upgrading from 1.0.3 due to all the issues with the 1.1 update/patch. With that said, it seems like the issues multiple players have been complaining about HAVE NOT been fixed or addressed in this latest update/patch.

Adding more content BEFORE fixing in game issues which the player base has been outspoken about is NOT the way to retain your players.

Hopefully the next update is better, until then I will stick to 1.0.3 and send out all the dwellers I want to continue my goal of collecting all items (I need 6 legendary weapons, 1 legendary outfit and 1 legendary dweller).

I just created an account in this forum to see if other people are complaining about this stupid cap !! I agree with all of you guys !!

This is the worst thing Bethesda could have done in this game !

My vault has 200 dwellers and 45 explorers. For me, until this cap be removed, I have no more interest in this game :(

All limitations are annoying. It removes the motivation. I saw that in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, with the level cap. In these times I miss Fallout 2 so much. No limitation !!!

Seriously, what the ever loving hell are they thinking. I usually avoid commenting on forums like the plague, and this managed to irritate me enough to make an account just to tell bethesda that their galactic level morons. I have more then 10 explorer the FIRST time I send out dwellers. It's sad to say, but for the record, I've actually had a vault get wiped by mole rats BECAUSE I wasn't sending enough to arm them well enough. Add to the how often I get attacked by deathclaws. If the limit had been reasonable; Hard 80-100 or scaling 40%-50% of your current max pop, I wouldn't have cared at all. Hell, a hard of 40-50 or scaling of 25%-30% and I'd have been way too lazy to comment. As is, I won't even be turn the game back on till this is fix.

Same here. i never bothered with any forums or comments but i like this game enough that i made this forum account to quote someone like this and let Bethesda know, that this update is major dissapointment.

My iphone 5 had enough problems with this games performance already, but i still keep running 3 vaults because how much i like this game.

Now the game is nearly unplayable for me, my wasteland dwelers are dead and alone and what can i do now in game? click every 2 minutes on some production. Pure fun. Not.

Agreed, the endgame is worthless now! The only thing to do once you hit 200 dwellers is send them to the wasteland to get cool stuff!

I'm sick of micromanaging, training them up to max stats has already been a huge chore, now I can't even enjoy the fruits of my labors?

Why do I need 190 guys in the vault when it takes less than 100 workers to keep the place running?

If this isn't patched by the weekend I'm re-writing my 5-star review down to 1-star.

I have 2 vaults. A small one with 55 dwellers on an Android. And a capped one 200, (192 are level 50 with maxed stats) on an iPhone. The Android took the update without asking me, but the iphone hasn't updated and I'm not going to take it. I won't take the update because of the explorer limit. If I am forced to take it. I will stop playing.

When did this update come? That's insane! I haven't played in a while but I always had tons of folks out in the wastelands. Cant imagine being limited to 10

Explorer limit is the Deathclaw of playability.

The only reason to play past 100 dwellers unlocking all the buildings is to send hordes of explorers into the wasteland. 10 is not a horde, 10 is a book club.

If wasteland explorers are a performance issue, FIX THE PERFORMANCE ISSUE! Don't limit the number of explorers!

I'm guessing they don't know how to fix the performance issue. I've never had a problem with the game and normally have over 10 dwellers out at all times. I would guess older devices don't have the processing power to manage too many dwellers out at once. So many people have complained about crashing/freezing/file corruption issues that something has to be causing this. A 10 dweller limit is WAY too low.I understand If there HAS to be a limit but come on...should be at least 20-25. We can only hope they are working on it and we will get another updated within the next few weeks (but I'm not going to have my hopes very high).

I created an account here just to chime in. (It's a Me Too!)

Me: 200 Deweller Vault. Working on maxing their SPECIALs. At any given time I have 40+ Dwellers out exploring.

In General: Frankly, it had become a bit boring. There was nothing new to do after I hit about 120 dwellers and had built all the rooms. The only thing of mild interest was collecting the rare items.

My Gripe: But reducing the number of explorers to 10? I'm done. Unless there is new content that I'm not aware of, I don't see much point in continuing to play.

And yes, I also experienced the bug where you couldn't click on a returning explorer without causing the game to hang. My solution was to select one of my currently-exploring dwellers, and then keep hitting the "next" button until I found my dwellers who needed collecting. After doing that, everything worked fine.

In general I've found this game (Android version) to be FULL of bugs. (on the order of a dozen of them, some rare, but some VERY common)

Despite that I've given it a high rating in the Play Store because it's fun, with the hopes that they'll fix them.

The only reason I can guess for limiting the explorers to 10 is that the interface for scrolling through all the exploring dwellers is slow and annoying.

But if that's your criteria, then maybe give a look-see to the vertical scroll of all dwellers. I effectively cannot scroll through all of them without it kicking me out due to accidentally clicking on an entry (due to frame rate).

The main fun thing for the max-dweller players is having as many dwellers as possible out exploring. Take that away and... then what?

Now... well, it was taking up too much of my time anyway.

yes, 10 seems ridiculously low.

Piper, Cloud save, Survival mode, 5 free lunch boxes for free are quite a nice addition, but I will take a break from playing.
