Explosion blew the mapping off my keyboard

I'm not sure where this post really belongs, so bear with me. I'm putting it here, because it may effect a lot of people, and a warning might not be a bad thing.

Anyway, I was doing a quest and decided to cause a very large series of explosions as part of completing it. After the explosions, I was unable to use my keyboard favorites, or toggle between 1st and third person. I could toggle sneak, jump, toggle always run, but I couldn't use M to see my map, or J to see the data folder.

When I tried reloading a save to get functionality back, I found that reloading the save files changed nothing. I finally found a save from about an hour and a half earlier (which by the way had not been a quick save) that loaded with everything working.

I don't really know what caused this, but I think it's a good precaution to create a manual save frequently...

The mantra of CRPGing in the 90's, "Save early, save often." :hehe:

I have this (or something similar) happen sometimes when loading or launching the game. Almost all keys will stop working, with esc and space I think being the only two that work and it's not simply a mapping issue because I tried remapping the keys and they were still mapped, the game just didn't recognize they were being pressed. Shutting down the game and restarting fixes it for me.

It still is.

My mantra: "Full save early, full save often." I never make quick saves. I stopped using them in Morrowind.

Yeah, I tried remapping too, and the game already apparently had them mapped, they just didn't work. Shutting down and restarting the game didn't do a thing for me though, until I went way back.

Uh, yeah, but I DID save often... the odd thing is I'm not sure how many of the saves were quicksaves and how many were not. Sometimes it looks like quicksaves get overwritten and then have area names just like a manual save.

EDIT:

BTW, I ended up trashing like five saves that had been made during that hour and a half...
