Explosive Potions

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2009 10:30 am

So the title says it all - should you be able to make explosive potions you can throw at people? If so, should there be restrictions like needing a certain skill or special equipment?

That would be interesting. I could see this being used to implement smoke bombs, in some way. Which would be helpful to the sneaky character.

I think its alchemy, so thats the equipment and skill you need.

It would be interesting to see more than just explosions. I heard a few people say acid to eat away locks...

If we see more innovative use of potions, more innovative than (insert spell effect here) than alchemy becomes a relevant skill.

I could really stand tossing some throwing potions at enemies. Or if I felt really nasty, at some NPCs.

It worked in Dragon Age, it could probably work in TES as well.

More interesting ways to use alchemy would make it a much better skill. Maybe have things like the ability to make potion grenades etc. as a skill mastery-level perk thing.

Maybe not potions but that is a good idea. Someone with lots of time should make a mod like that because I am sure it won't be in the game.

Some of these effects would make combat more fun...
And anything to make alchemy relevant...

Nice idea, but don't just limit it to explosions. How about potions that are acidic and burn through a hit victim, or poisons, or stuns, or concoctions that make your opponent cough and splutter, etc.
So many possibilities. We could dress up as witches and throw smoke bombs at our feet, laugh like maniacs as the smoke obscures our opponents' vision and then disappear in the confusion.

Yes effects like this would really make the combat less bland, it would likely spill over into the spell system making for cooler spell effects

and more effects would be awesome too...

Acidic pots that directly affect item health on the character. Pretty much corrosive but much more potent and effective.

No. Imagine your irritation the 242. time an enemy throws a explosive potion at your unsuspecting character and instantly kills him. It would be more annoying than the Cliff Racers and Will-o-the-Wisp combined.

I would love to see a few potion grenades because it would give the potion makers an ability to have some offensive power as well, and lets face it, who wouldn't love to throw a vial of acid in a dragon's eyes and then club them over the head? Or you're playing a necromancer and your minions are falling, just toss a paralysis potion into the middle? Or you're an assassin, why not throw a vial of poison and watch your enemies suffocate and die while you lurk in the shadows? It can work for everyone and could be interesting if not overdone.

Only if it becomes overpowered. It's not like it will become a one-shot kill.

True but i still fear it would be more irritating than useful and it dosn't have to kill you in one shot to become a pain in the ass.

Maybe not an explosion but maybe a large fire blast.

I like this idea for strategic purposes such as, corrosive properties, a quick escape with a "darkness/smoke" potion, or even one that temporarily blinds the enemy for a short period of time because it emits and immense amount of light. Having said this, it would have to be limited so these powerful potions don't get overused. Maybe making these ingredients really rare?? Either way it would defiantly be a really good addition to the alchemy skill though--meaning more ingredients to forage!!!! hahah

For me, no. It sounds to me you're discussing fragmentation, stun/flashbangs, and thermite grenades. I play different games when I want explosives.
Also, if powder driven explosives are invented, why wouldn't there be firearms? Takes away focus from fantasy based role playing if you ask me.
