Dx11 is much quicker when running only the same features as dx9. When you add in stuff like tessellation (dx11 specific feature) then you will get a performance hit. Dx11 gives a lot more headroom to add things in before losing any performance.
This was my point, thanks for saying it better than I could :P

lol you said it better, in was creating my message as you sent yours in. I edited mine after I saw your post. ;)

So tell me why UniEngine heaven gives me 70% worse performance in DirectX 11 than in DirectX 9 (Mind you...with Tesselation enabled in 11.)

DirectX 11 is a hell fo a lot faster than 10. But from 9...there difference is minimal. Because DirectX 10 was unoptimized. DirectX 11 is basically a re-optimized DirectX 10 with a couple new features.

Crytek at the moment wants to put Crysis 2 off to the side, they've been working on "Kingdoms" which is a xbox 360 kinect title that runs on cryengine 3, i can bet my 2 cents thats what they are going to be focusing on.

And iPwn, something is wrong with your rig, Unigene reallies heavy on Grphx cards, the cards rely heavily on the CPU, not that im suggesting anything, but i think there might be a problem there if your telling me 70% decrease, then again, i dont know, im SLI. Ill try it with a single card and report back.

What are you running?

I'm running Phenom II X4 955 BE
GeForce 560TI
8gigs of Patriot ram

My specs are a little above the recommended for UNIENGINE.

You said it yourself. Cause you enabled tessellation. Uniengine is a tessellation benchmark. Of course it will task your PC when you turn it on. Turn on wire frame then toggle tess on/off.

Even with Tessellation enabled, it shouldn't be a 70% performance drop.

That's true clockwork. Unless he has ati card. I've read some of them really struggle with tesselation. Again, tesselation is a dx11 specific feature so having it enabled and comparing it with performance of dx9 frame rate doesn't apply as your now rendering a ton of polygons that you weren't with dx9.

Yeah i just really saw that the other day when I had wireframe on in the Endless City demo. Tessellation is like almost 5 times the polygons of DX9.

Well my own rig doesn't even support DirectX 11. But my friend (he's my neighbor) has an i7-980X with an HD 5870 and 12GB of RAM. SSD for OS and 2TB hard drive for storage, etc.

And last time I tried Unigine Heaven the frame rate drop was insane. I'll go try it again later today for a more recent calculation.

My own rig is junk.

I have an Athlon II X4 and a GT 240. Can't get a new GPU for at least a few more months.

I'll also ask my other friend (that's not my neighbor) about his performance hit on his GTX 470 rig.

So basically you don't know? I don't mean to flame you, but if you haven't(or can't) run the Demo yourself you really shouldn't be speaking on it.

For example my Heaven score with Tessellation on "normal" is 1313, with it on "extreme" I get 840, that's only a 35% performance loss. And this is with max AA and everything else on high @ 1440 x 900.

Well no but I ran it on his rig ~2 months ago and the frame rate in DX11 at 1920 x 1200 was ~29 i think and in dx9 it was ~70+ in dx9.
